On a Jupiter Moon, Kaden Jaxx discovers the long lost colony he’s dreamed of. Only things are not as wonderful as they seem… War is coming, a war that cannot be won without Kaden’s help. To his surprise, Kaden learns he is destined to be the colony’s savior, but saving millions of people also requires something more – his own life.

Studying more glyphs, Jaxx finds another way, another journey, another destined fate that pulls him and his starfighter across the galaxy. He just has to find and convince two civilizations to give up peace and join a terrible, deadly war.

Ok, this one is getting a little crazy. I understand space combat and fighting aliens. Most sci-fi books have those things. They also have large, thunderous mechanized fighting machines that look like Transformers™ which someone, usually a human, will jump in and go to war with. Well, this story was going along just fine with Kaden Jaxx as a super sharp starship pilot; then he met the Leonean’s or creatures that looked like giant Lions! They pitched him in one of their giant mechs after giving him some kind of super brain training instruction on how to operate the thing. He was then told to go fight the Agadon which he had released into this dimension!

Yes, when Jaxx thought he was giving his live to save the Atlantans and the Taiyo, but no, he accidentally opened a dimensional rift that let in negative aliens called the Agadon. They were currently overwhelming the planet Leonean and that’s where the pyramid transport system took him. So, he finds himself in an instant war with aliens he didn’t even know existed. He fights very well in the giant mech until it gets destroyed. He was able to eject, but did so in deep space far from any reasonable rescue.

Yet, he does get rescued. Now the Agadon are attacking and destroying Tayio, but Kaden Jaxx is being told by everyone that he must return to Callisto and fulfill his destiny. He must fixed the tear he caused and do what he was originally supposed to do. Actually, it wasn’t his fault that things didn’t go right. Everyone forgot that Captain Bogle should have been with them when Jaxx “transcended” in the Callisto pyramid. She wasn’t there so that some how threw everything off. Now, Rivkah and Fox were out looking for Bogle right in the middle of the Kelhoon invasion. Katherine Bogle has gone a little bonkers, but has to be brought back into the fold so Jaxx can get whatever he’s supposed to do, done right. Getting her back through thousands of Kelhoons isn’t going to be easy nor is Jaxx’s fight with the Agadon going any better. He must break off his fighting and get back through the pyramid transport system to Callisto. If he doesn’t, then even Earth won’t be around much longer The Agadon have just found Earth and are beginning their attack on a planet that has very little in the way of defenses.

Ok, lots of action which I don’t mind, but the use of giant swords to destroy starfighters is stretching it a little. Don’t know why these mechs where thrown in when they don’t really fit in with the rest of the story. And, this story isn’t over yet. Book 4, “Beyond Atlantis” is out and I think I’ll continue reading the series. Maybe!

In Colony Atlantis, book three in the Ascendent Chronicles series, author Brandon Ellis switches gears a bit and leans more towards acting out battle scenes than in telling the story. This slight shift in direction was disappointing for me.

I'm not a big fan of books where there are pages and pages of battle scenes. Why? It has been my experience that the story - which is the reason for my interest in a book in the first place - seems to stop being told during these lengthy battle scenes.

Battle scenes are an integral part in sci-fi stories (as they are in the fantasy genre) but in the absence of providing something meaningful to the story I find they are an unnecessary distraction. I can count on one hand the number of battle scenes in Colony Atlantis which actually provided valuable information to the story.

On the few occasions where the battle scenes actually complimented the story the author creatively reveals not only pertinent background information that draws the reader further into his fictional world but also "teases" the reader with possible and plausible scenarios for what to expect in the next book in the series - Beyond Atlantis.

My bottom line? There was too much conflict thrown at the reader and too little forward progress made in telling the story in Colony Atlantis.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
Definitely an improvement over the second book, this installment pulls you in from start to finish. the pacing still suffers from being a little to fast but there is more development for the characters, story and the world(s) around them. some of the character swaps happen to irregularly or even to soon even though Jax is the main character he need's a little longer chapters, or more chapters following one character before swapping to other characters would be better than character swapping every chapter. Overall I enjoyed this novel, the character swapping is a little tiresome and the pacing is still quick but the author has written a strong narrative that keeps me wanting more.
If you are new to the series I recommend starting at book one.

I’m not even going to try to summarize Brandon Ellis’ Colony Atlantis (Ascendant Chronicles, Book 3), though luckily the publisher’s blurb does a pretty good job without giving away any spoilers. I’ve been rabidly reading this series as it gets better and better, more and more convoluted, full of great action and total fun. Kaden Jaxx is a superb hero and his supporting cast are wonderfully crafted. This is just pure unadulterated fun. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

This is an amazing story and I wanted very much to give it five stars. It is well worth the effort required to read it and unfortunate the author hasn't (yet) responded to many of the reviewers of his first two books. Many of them also found his stories to be brilliant but hampered by poor editing. Often, when I'm reading a captivating story, like this series is, I'll read right past typos and editing flaws. However, when they interfere with my reading flow, it diminishes my enjoyment of what is otherwise a marvelous tale.
I strongly encourage this author to invest in a quality grammar-checking App that does more than spell check. His series tells an amazing story and deserves a better presentation.

Oh my goodness. I loved the development of this series. The computer nerds on Earth and how they changed! The old adage "The meek shall inherit the earth" definitely came to mind a lot. And young Mya certainly understood the power within her, even though we certainly didn't. Back on Starship Atlantis, who knows what is going on and who is allied with whom will definitely keep one guessing. Then over to Callisto itself. If they're not fighting the Kelhoon they're fighting amongst themselves as they try to figure out their alliances. Individual powers and how they work was interesting to see developed. I so thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to see how things develop further.

Jaxx and the gang are back for another crazy ride. Full of action and a few twists it keep me reading until the end to see what would happen next. Most of the good and bad guys from the first 2 books are back as Jaxx tries to save everyone it seems. Of course my favorite bad guys are back to with a new plan and don't forget the evil aliens. Plus new friends are around too. I chose to review because I loved it. I like that I cannot always predict what is coming next.

A Whirlwind Adventure That Keeps Twisting Time and Space

The story picks up from the end of Book 2 and sets us off on a rapid-fire plunge through four intertwined and closely related story arcs. Our heroes encounter a multitude of stumbling blocks while the villains methodically advance their plans.

The end is a cliffhanger which I expected. It did manage to start reuniting the story arcs.

Very hard to put down and worth the effort to read.

Epic space battles, political intrigue and unsuspecting "ordinaries" with super powers make this one an interesting and enjoyable read. Since the series tracks multiple, loosely related characters in several different locations means there aren't any "quiet moments" an the action is non-stop.
If you're a space opera fan, you'll love this one.

Continues the story with war everywhere, with so many races. You bounce between three different locations in this story. Can the characters come together and save the galaxy? We will see with book 4.

Another great book

This one is better than the last. If that's even possible. Action action and more action packed adventures in this one book.
