This is yet another book about UFOs, placed under 'sciences' until I get inspired enough to create a category for them alone. It happens to be an exhaustively detailed account of a unusually well documented close encounter which occurred in Manitoba, Canada during the late sixties, including the original text of a pamphlet privately published by the experiencer, a memoir by one of his sons and summaries by a prominent ufologist. The text is rather dry, the event itself not very spectacular--lending perhaps to its credibility.

One of the most enigmatic UFO cases ever. Why would a 45 year old blue collar Polish-born Canadian hoax an encounter with a flying saucer in the Manitoba wilderness and give himself serious flash burns in the shape of a grill and reoccurring physical problems that could never be explained? This case which took place in May, 1967 has defied easy explanation for decades. The mild, unassuming man who experienced it never profited in any specific way and was certainly not the type to lie. Investigated thoroughly by the RCMP, the Canadian Air Force, the Condon Commission (appointed by President Johnson to investigate the UFO question) as well as the U.S. Air Force's Project Blue Book, the Falcon Lake case was officially designated "unexplained" in 1968. It remains so to this day.

A credible and thorough look at a really weird event, and then some! Who knows what happened that day out by Falcon Lake. But his experience, and the events poor Mr Michalak went through after, sure were gnarly. And that aftermath never left him alone, it went on for the rest of his life. Now his son helps explain.
The story links for me with 'The Goblin Universe' by Ted Holliday. Some of the latter's ideas may help explain the flying saucer phenomenon as the chosen form taken by psychic forces we do not understand.
