From the moment we met, Tessa Morgan pegged me as trouble. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. I’m funny. Easy-going. My years as a high school football star worked wonders on my body as well as my reputation. I’m Colton Carmichael. Everyone likes me.
Everyone except Tessa.
And believe me, the feeling is mutual.
Every time we run into each other, there’s an explosion to rival any fireworks display out there. We couldn’t be more opposite if we tried, but chance keeps pushing us together. Before long, those explosions of anger turn into…something else. Everyone I know loves Tessa, and the more I get to know her, the more I understand why.
She challenges me to become a better version of myself while I teach her to loosen her death grip on the rules.
Love was never supposed to be part of my vocabulary, much less the house with the picket fence, or kids running around the yard. Not for this rolling stone. The way Tessa and I see our futures is as different as we are. We're headed in opposite directions as our relationship stretches out between us, a rubber band pulled taut and thin.
So now what? For the first time since high school, I look at the future with hope instead of indignation. I can’t stand the idea of being without her, but how long can you ignore a freight train coming straight at you when you’re standing on the tracks?
Along Comes Trouble is a standalone, enemies to lovers romance.
Abby Brooks writes heartfelt contemporary romance with small-town charm, found family, and happily-ever-afters that feel earned. Her stories feature relatable characters, emotional depth, and just the right balance of humor and heat—perfect for readers who love cozy communities, strong connections, and hope-filled love stories.
A lifelong storyteller raised in the Midwest, Abby draws inspiration from close-knit towns and the beauty of everyday moments. She lives in Ohio with her husband and their three cats and believes the best love stories are the ones that feel like coming home.
Tess and Colton seem to match each other, even though they aren't what you would imagine a perfect match would be from the beginning. They both have different personalities, but they balance each other out and are a blast to read about! I highly recommend for those who enjoy main characters with a good amount of backstory and conflicting personalities that just seem to mesh so well by the end of the story.
I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily reviewing.
Books are a relaxation and escape for me. I love to read and have since I learned to do so. Abby Brooks is one of my top 5 authors that I simply devour any and everything they write and Abby has hit this one out of the pasture behind the barn
This book has so many wonderful characters and not just Colton and Tessa although this is their love story. There is family and friends that play a huge part in Colton and Tessa arriving at their HEA while some are not even aware they had anything to do with the outcome.
Tessa is able to help Colton understand that he needs to talk to David about how the decisions he made regarding situations in his life are not as David thinks they are and how he, Colton, feels about how these situations have affected how he is therefore mending some family situations.
This book has all the feels of a relationship's ups and downs while each person over thinks what they are feeling while trying to guess if the other feels the same. Add alcohol and sometimes things are said that end up hurting the person that said them as well as the one said to. Recipe for heartache.
I actually read about 1/2 of this book before going to sleep and picked up reading with my morning coffee next AM. I could not stop reading even to take a sip of coffee and ended up with a wet sleep shirt from wiping tears and a cold cup of coffee, but it was worth it all. When a book pulls at my heartstrings enough to make me ugly cry to the point of wiping tears so I can keep reading, that my friends is FEELS and this book is loaded with them.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC of this book.
Along Comes Trouble is such a fitting title! While reading this juicy story swiping those pages, my eyes suddenly hit the words THE END I had to wonder, who is the real " Trouble " in this story? Hmm.. Oh, what a story web Abby Brooks can weave! This emotional rollercoaster of heartache to heart mend is spectacular! I became quickly immersed in the storyline with no intentions of putting this yumminess down! I loved watching Colton and Tessa the perfectly unperfect couple as they take a scary, bumpy and twisted journey finding themselves together and apart. The connection between them is electrifying and maddening it's the perfect combination! As much frustration as I felt for their crazy times, I was a puddle of goo over them as well- who doesn't love a book that gives you goosebumps and butterflies! PLUS, had you seriously considering hugging your Kindle?( No worries though, I didn't, I derailed that crazy train before it went too far) Seriously! It's a free-flowing, well-written, detailed, hug it out, love me now, high passion read that left me feeling happy and wanting more! This one has become my new favorite of the Brookside Series! I wish I could give it more than 5 Stars! One I suggest reading! As well as the other Brookside Novels! Standalone ~Full length ~ Adult ~ I read an advanced copy of Along Comes Trouble any views expressed are my own and voluntary.

Wow! I really enjoyed Colton & Tessas's story! It was quite the emotional roller coaster, but in the best possible way! A great read!

Be drawn deeper and deeper by Abby Brooks in Along Comes Trouble the fourth book in Brookside Romance series. An empowering story of two characters that are completely opposite who truly find love with one another.
Abby’s writing is impeccable. From her well developed characters and her detailed descriptions. No wonder why I flew through this book, never wanting it to end. Her unique skill at drawing her readers into her stories full heartedly is a talent and Ms. Brooks is one talented author!
Tessa Morgan can not stand Colton Carmichael, it’s more out of despite than anything else. There is just something about him that rubs him the wrong way and she tries to stay clear however, fate has a different path, one in which pushing her towards the cocky man. As time moves on and the more time she is around him, her perception of him unravels. But it’s not to say their differences outshine the positive on any given day. Is there a compromise that can be arranged? Is it too late to redeem oneself?
Along Comes Trouble is worth every emotion you will encounter, every sleepless hour you lose. The magnitude of feelings you feel from the words, scenarios, conversations between these characters… was a wonder to immerse myself! I fully enjoyed this rollercoaster of a enemies to lovers romance. Definitely kept me on my toes. Abby knows how to capture her readers attention… she caught mine!
Is love enough to overcome irreconcilable differences? That is he dilemma faced by Colton and Tessa in Along Comes Trouble, the 4th book in the Brookside series. The story also ties into the Moore books, as Tessa is originally from Bliss and a friend of Ellie's. I love when an author puts little details like that into books.
When Tessa first meets Colton, he is everything she wants to avoid in a guy. Although they definitely het off on the wrong foot, as they spend time together and get to know one another, they realize that they actually complement each other well.
But even as their relationship progresses, Colton can't escape the middle child issues he's saddled himself with, and the fact that those have led him to not wanting children becomes a sore subject for him and Tessa. Will they be able to reconcile their differences and love one another enough to figure out a compromise?
Along Comes Trouble is exactly what I expect from an Abby Brooks book. It made me smile, laugh, cry and cheer in all the right places. Well done! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
Tessa: Trouble has a big ol’ truck. And thick dark chocolate hair. And a baseball cap. (Of course, he has a baseball cap.) And a henley. Nicely fitted henley…. And a soul-melting sexy grin that sets my heart to a new tempo. Of course, he’s just insufferable. Yeah. He’s trouble.
Colton: Just who is this uptight schoolmarm in pearls (pearls!) -- What is her problem? Got me all judged and sentenced and poked into a pidgeonhole. And she doesn’t even know me. But she knows my sister? Just what has Sarah been saying about me anyway? And what exactly does this oh-so-proper teacher with her strawberry blond hair and her cute little shoes-- have in common with my hipster sister?
I really enjoyed this installment of the Brookside series. And between Colton and Tessa… Oh, boy. It’s more than trouble… It’s an all out battle. The laws of attraction get bent, and broken… But the cease-fires keep getting more and more… interesting… Until love walks in and wins the war. Yep, trouble. All the way around. 5 stars.
This the first book in this series I've read but I bought the previous books before I finished one... it is that good. Whoever said opposites attract most definitely had Colton and Tess in mind. Tess is an organized, prim and proper second grade teacher that has met most of her life goals. Colton is the second son, football star of his youth that works on his family's farm and as laid back can be. The thing the two learn is that you can't judge a book by its cover and as they get to know each other dislike and doubts turn into an explosive relationship on a bumpy road. There's just one thing that is a major roadblock in this relationship and after a drunken night and words that Colton doesn't remember voicing and can't take back will he lose the only he loves that makes him a better man.?? This is a great story about love, family, friends and sacrifice. Can't wait to catch up on the other books and the next ones to come.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book also purchased it Thank you Abby for a great new series for me
Colton is the second son of the Carmichaels and has sacrificed his dreams in order to help his father on the farm after his illness. But David, the prodigal brother is back and it’s a tradition that the first child gets the inheritance. Colton lives his life freely staying on the farm and helping around, in other words he just lives without any goals. A fortuitous encounter with sweet Tessa will change everything. Tessa is the elementary teacher of his niece and she is so different from him. They keep stumbling into one another and as the saying goes “opposites attract”, they will begin a relationship with a lot of ups and downs. Tessa is going to be for Colton the one who will install the trust and faith lacking in his soul. An intense read, a trip towards pure feelings and the awareness that it is never too late to redeem oneself.
This is such a great story. I love the town and it's people. The storyline immediately engages you and keeps you reading until the end (be mindful of the time if you start this book in the evening). The pace of the story is spot on as it never gets bogged down into overthinking by the characters. Speaking of characters, the protagonists, the teacher Tessa who falls in love with her opposite, the lost second son, Colton. They have great chemistry in and out of the bedroom. However, there are major obstacles both have to come to terms with in order to see a future that includes one another. Can they do it? I wholeheartedly recommend this book and any book by Abby Brooks. She is a most talented writer and it shows here. Enjoy! (Note: I was provided an Advanced Review Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)
Fabulous and HOT, this short is perfect for a cold day set in front of a fire!! It’s true! From their first meeting, there is an electrified tension whenever Tess and Colton are anywhere near each other. Everyone else recognizes it, but Colton and Tess know only that they are traveling in different directions in life. What they didn’t count on was the tried-and-true fact, that opposites attract! A truth that also warns of an explosion that could result in the romance for-the-ages. Along Comes Trouble is perfect for providing some steam for those who want to curl up by the fire on these ever-colder days, and read a well written, friends-to-enemies romance that comes STRONLY recommended. While I received a free ARC copy of Along Comes Trouble to prepare this honest and voluntary review, I plan to purchase my own copy to read again. You should buy a copy too! Happy pages 😉
I received this book as an arc in return for honest review. Tessa and Colton's story is about not judging someone as soon as you see them. Tessa is new to town and is a teacher. She happens to teach Colton's niece and at first meeting they don't like each other. Tessa is a homebody who has a plan and as always followed it. She doesn't have time or need to have relationship. Colton is known for not wanting a relationship and he doesn't know where he fits in his family. When he first meets Tessa he thinks she's judgmental and tries best to pretend he doesn't exist. Then one day, they can't ignore the attraction. Will they be able to get past first impressions? Can they find something with one another they've never had with anyone else? I loved this story!
I absolutely loved Tessa & Colton’s story! I couldn’t stop reading.
Tessa is such a sweetheart and a homebody. I felt such a connection to Tessa. I loved that Colton, someone she knew was trouble when she first met him, was able to bring some excitement to her life. In the same way she was able to do the same to Colton. Colton didn’t know what he was missing until Tessa.
I adore that the previous couples from Brookside made appearances. So many great secondary characters in this book that I loved seeing where their lives have progressed to. I can’t wait for Sarah’s story!
This book was great from the first page to the last. Great job on another amazing book Abby Brooks!
I had a hard time getting into the story at the beginning. After about 1/4th of the way, things started picking up speed for me and I enjoyed it much more. Tessa has a prim/proper/rule book lifestyle. Colton likes to have fun and is very much a martyr for his family without letting anyone know what he's actually done. The two come together and are happy until life choices and future decisions happen. Eventually we do get our HEA, but it's a journey to get there.
This is the fourth book in the Brookside romance series! This time it’s Colton’s story and boy is his a story! Colton meets Tessa his nieces teacher and she thinks he’s a arrogant jerk but he can’t stop thinking of her! But will they get together and make each other happy or keep making each other’s life heck! Wow did this book take me through emotions! Loved it and can’t wait for Sarah’s story!
Fun and bumpy ride to the end; Abby Brooks does it again. She truly knows how to weave a wonderful story. Bonus that she combined two towns we love to revisit. Colton is misunderstood by everyone. Sparks fly when he meets Tessa. Two very different personalities that bring out sides of themselves they didn't even realize existed. It's a struggle but they do find their happily ever after. (I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review)
Along Comes Trouble is a masterfully written story that will touch you in a multitude of different ways. It’s profoundly emotional with swings from happy to sad to heart wrenching. You must add this novel to your personal library today! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and loved it.)
Trouble really happened for Colton and Tessa! Both of them have their own issues and did not think that they could be good for each other. Strong characters. Story that feels realistic. Emotions at every page. I think this is one of my favorite Carmichael’s brother. Loved it! You will not be disappointed!!
Everything about this book was wonderful, from first impressions gone wrong to Tessa and Colton finding out out who they are as indivduals as well as a couple. Abby has away that makes you fall into a book and miss it when it's finished and Along Comes Trouble is no different. I volunteered to leave a review in exchange for an advanced copy of this wonderful book.
Along Comes Trouble isn’t all flowers and sweet talk among the hero and heroine story. It is however a beautiful in depth story of two people who love each other, however they have to find a way to work through their many baggage. Get ready to fall in love with Colton, the fun loving uncle and brother who’s trying to find his place in his family and in life.
This book was really good and i loved The way Tessa and Colton's relationship it was not rushed. They came to final decision slowly. Nothing came out of nowhere. Tessa loves children, Colton doesn't want any. They love each other, but is that enugh have Forever? Check it out in this Great story where life slonky changes its way!
This book was amazing and by far my favorite book Abby has written! It jumped right on up to one of my top 5 reads of 2017, and I've read a ton of books. I loved everything about this book, the laughter, the tears, and of course the happy ending. I can't recommend this book enough!
I have read all of Abby's books and I have to say I think this is by far my favorite! Abby did a great job of showing not only how the journey of Colton and Tessa's love story comes full circle, but also how each of their personal journeys does as well. Great story all around!!!
this book broke my heart! i loved it! its about two people that are so different. they start a relationship. she wants kids he doesnt . he wants to party she doesnt. can these two work things out? read to find out what happens.
Simply Amazing!! Abby Brooks has outdone herself again. The story of Colton and Tessa had it all. Beautiful strong characters. Heartwarming story that had me locked it from the opening pages and an emotional storyline that told a true story about not only finding love but also finding inner strength and the willingness to accept the circumstances you are dealt with and to change and grow accordingly. Loved every moment of this book. You will not be disappointed.
I love this series. I read all 4 books over a week! These characters are amazing & the storylines are original & have so much heart. I can’t say that Colton & Tessa are my favorite couple, but they definitely rank 2nd. What a great book!
I received this book as an ARC for review and just feel more in love with Colton and now Tessa. It was great to see the highs and lows of this relationship. And the ending was great bit left you hanging and wanting for more Brooks books!!!
I loved everything about Colton and Tessa's beautiful love story, even the heartbreaking moments. Along Comes Trouble is a book that I would read again. I can't wait for Sarah's story!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary Advance Reader Copy.
