I am Amanda Green; a self published multi-genre author.

I've written two memoirs (mental health), a self-help book for sufferers of anxiety and depression, and various short fiction including psychological thrillers, suspense and drama - thought provoking, inspiring stories with the theme of overcoming adversities (abuse, homelessness, mental health, relationships and more).

I am a therapeutic Counsellor, MBACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) member, and offer one-to-one counselling sessions (specialising with anxiety issues), plus group and individual personalised Life Writing Workshops in Essex, England.

Aside from writing and social networking, I spend a lot of time with my pets; a big, handsome cat called Titus, a pretty little cat called Millie and my tropical fish. I strongly believe in pet animal therapy as being good for our mind, body and soul and I promote the fostering and adopting of animals as opposed to private breeding and purchase. I detest animal cruelty, and spent years campaigning against palm oil use; it's unsustainable growth is the reason the precious Orang-utan is critically endangered in Sumatra and Borneo.

I have travelled on/off across the world, taking in twenty five Countries - living and working at times in Japan, Thailand and Australia and have enjoyed a very mixed bag of jobs.

I run three personal websites for which I write all copy and articles and provide all photography:

www.sandramdean.co.uk

I have had my writing and photography work published in various magazines and local newspapers. I enjoy the challenge of getting published.

I regularly post blogs about coping strategies, inspirational things to do, Borderline Personality disorder, depression, Obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety/panic attacks, thyroid issues, eating disorders (Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia), alcohol and drug abuse, sexual abuse/rape, Quetiapine (Seroquel anti-psychotics) and Citalopram (anti-depressant), therapies such as Cognitive behavioural therapy and paranoia, dissociation and psychosis - all of which I have experienced in one way or another either myself or those I know. Also info on mental health charities, forums, campaigns, the stigma surrounding mental illness, some of my personal experiences, celebrities with mental health issues and mental health in the family.

I received what I thought was the full novel of this book from TheFussyLibrarian and Amanda Green. Rather this electronic edition is the first five chapters, so I got a taste of the work, but not a full meal... The art is awesome - layout as well. The present tense is a little off-putting but doable. I think it would be a fine fast read. Thanks for sharing your work with me, Amanda.

Review by my wife:

I enjoyed reading Dirty Laundry very much, so much in fact that when I finished it I was sorry that it wasn’t longer!

The author Amanda Green really knows about human nature and fleshed out some superb characters for this novel; Amanda excelled at portraying not just the good and beautiful in people but their darker sides too – after all, we humans, all have an amount of both in different proportions. The plot has some very good and unexpected surprises which for me is always a mark of a good novel.

When I first started to read the book I thought it was to be a light read but I was so wrong as one can get so much more from it, you will both laugh, cry and ponder about the meaning of life itself. So, the read is amusing but the author also touches on serious issues of our modern society. Oh I mustn’t forget, the witty dialogues were just so entertaining!

The story itself is centered on Sandra, the owner of a Laundry shop. For 8 years she has been living with a man and things are not going that well for them as Sandra doesn’t feel loved and she’s at a loss for what to do to fix their relationship. But in her life not only that is a worry but her past also haunts her and she needs to so something about it or she will go crazy. Sandra doesn’t have many friends but she’s a true friend who trust her and she’ll find that the few friends she has are very precious and will keep her going no matter what.

Can someone who suffered so many wrongs be able to forgive and move on with life? How well do we know our friends and those we live with and love? Do we or can we fully trust them? It is so easy to judge others but when we learn about all they went through in their lives perhaps we were not fair and too quick to point our finger at them…

Lots going on

This novel has a lot going on, but things have a way of working out in ways that come off as a surprise. The intera lions between all involved are interesting, and some are unexpected. Thus is a clean read book for those who cavor that particular niche.

This novel is written in a style that I find uncomfortable and off-putting -- third person, but all dialog and action in present tense. Even so, I stuck with it to the finish. Not going to say I enjoyed it, but I didn't hate it, and I wasn't sorry I hadn't put it down.

That said, I found nothing of any real social value. Though the themes of abuse, sexuality, forgiveness, and self-esteem are worthy, I felt their treatment ended up being superficial and not lasting. I'm certain others will feel differently.

Not a bad little story

None of the characters were stand outs and I had a like/despise opinion of Sandra. The rest were all fillers with a bit too many stories with no completion of explanation.
