Lucian Sword- Casey Blane Series

Rate this book
Casey Blane returns to the old coven's grounds to take her place as the high priestess to the Letorian Coven and in search for the lost talismans. What she discovers is far more than she ever could have envisioned. Brought to a world of faeries and the magic of the Druids, Casey must learn to come to terms with herself and her gifts quickly to survive and change the prophecy. Her first battle is finding the Lucian Sword. Casey Blane Over 400 years ago, King Davalian, The Letorian King, protected the covens from the Pandions and townspeople during the medieval times of the black plague and the witch hunts. Two very gifted sorcerers were part of his army and fought alongside him. One was a woman named Lily who not only helped him to victory but won his heart. Lily was not at all interested in King Davalian. Her love was Connell, the other gifted sorcerer. During King Davalian’s reign, Lily discovered the secret to eternal life through a series of talismans, a reborn vampire, which she tried on herself. Connell was to be next, and they were to live out their lives, each generation, with each other. Except, that night, things went horribly wrong and even though both had been blessed with eternal life their bond was never completed. Instead, in a jealous rage, King Davalian cursed Connell and forced him to an entity of being controlled by the moon and to never forget. Connell was forced into a wolf, and after King Davalian’s death, Lily became their queen. That was when a devastating prophecy of her great-granddaughter was told. Her great-granddaughter would be slaughtered by the King to the Pandions, the talismans were to be found, and it would be the demise of the Letorian Coven. The Pandions were destined to be the new ruling coven and destroy everything on its way to get there. The series begins with Lily’s great-granddaughter, Casey Blane, who has been kept hidden her entire young human life for them to try to change the prophecy until one day when she’s discovered by the Pandions. What happens next will change her life forever.

Lucian Sword is high fantasy with an appealing main character and lots of physical romance (without getting explicit). The book held my interest.

With that said, I cannot give a glowing review. This book is only partially edited. It remains rife with repeated phrases, homonym mistakes, and punctuation errors, all of which, for me, just ejected me from the story. The abilities of the characters are godlike. They have everything from telepathy to teleportation to creation of matter from nothing. They are immortal vampires who like sunlight, aren't undead, and don't kill people, but still have superhuman strength and speed. And a warm body temperature. And heal magically. All of this is a serious impediment to a believable plot and also sympathy for the characters. The array of characters is reasonable, and the dialog between them flows well, though it often drags on a long time for little purpose. The first major action scene was well done, except that it ended in deus ex machina magical solution. The most immersive parts are whenever Casey scrapes for a solution by herself. I found her beau irritating. He's either smothering Casey while arguing with absolutely everybody, or he's absent (breaking his oft-repeated promise to stick with her). The bit part of Bob was very well done, and the villain is nicely detestable.

I might recommend this book to a teen, but I definitely recommend putting this book back into the cutting room for a while.

The second book of the Casey Blane series is about Casey becoming the High Priestess of the Letorian Coven. There are those who are training and supporting her as well as those who are her enemies. The fight and training scenes as well as each character were well described. It was well written except for two issues I had, which are why I gave it 4 stars. One is that there were a number of spelling or word errors. There were a number of repetitive phrases or descriptions of the two main character's actions (Casey reaching for her locket, Knoxavier affectionate behaviors and Casey's responses).

A great continuation for the Casey Blane series. There are more obstacles that get in the way during the second part as Casey still tries to come to terms with what she is and what her destiny is. Her and Knoxavier's relationship also thickens along the way. The book has a great pace with lots of action. It seems the Pandions don't slack down at all giving Casey and the Letorians no way to recoup, and that's what makes the book amazing. It keeps you on the edge as you read scene after scene wondering what else Casey is capable of. I'm definitely looking forward to the third installment of the series.

Casey Blane’s story continues

So the first book ends on a great line by Knoxavier and as we continue Casey’s journey, she learns more things about her history, family and powers. A lot happens as Casey learns to defend herself and she meets more characters to guide her through. Several eye opening blurps and twists in this book that the author was sneaky. It was one of those “I wasn’t expecting that” type of twist. Casey continues her normal thought process that I find amusing as only a teenager can pull off but overal she continues to fight for her people and her friends.

1st review.

Lucian Sword By Jodi Fahey.
People that know my reviews, know I focus on structure of a story, I leave the spoilers to others. This is a large story, filled with wonderful visuals and descriptions. The dialogue is well written with each character having a different voice. I find this enjoyable in a book. The story flows well with the needed twists and turns.
I found the book enjoyable, and recommend it for you to read.

Spellbinding!

Ms. Fahey has spun a suspenseful masterpiece that kept me turning page after page! It was difficult to put down, and I hated that life kept me from reading it at times! There are plot twists, suspense intrigue, dragons, faires - all things paranormal - an excellent read cover to cover and non-stop action that kept me on the edge of my seat as I held my breath! I cannot wait for the next two books to complete the series!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Just as her first book Letorian Descendants made me feel like I was enjoying the adventure with them; this book did the exact same. Her characters are definitely full of excitement and you quite never know what will happen next. It is a book that will keep you glued to the end.

Good story

Enjoyed the story and continued drama. Good depth of feeling. There were some editing errors that interrupted flow of the story.
