Tyler just got stoned. Magic-stoned.

When a stranger tosses a mysterious stone into Tyler's lap, he doesn't know what’s hit him. The rock is the sole source of magic in the known universe. That'd be awesome if he knew how the hell it worked.

Soon, hordes of evildoers are hot on his heels, seeking the rock’s power at any cost. Suffering from stone-enforced sobriety, Tyler would offload the damn thing if he could. But he can only gift the stone to someone of magical lineage. A gene pool contaminated by miscreants, troublemakers, and fools—and those are just the good guys.

With the help of a warthog and a ten-year-old girl, Tyler must battle against the circling forces of evil. If he can't return the stone to its rightful owner, it might cost him his life, destroy his friends, and (possibly) end the world.

Magic Dude by Lee Hayton is a fun read, no matter what your flavor of books you like, it is just fun! Picture Lucille Ball as a dude, white trash trailer park type, no ambition, and ends up with a stone of magic. His greedy friends think this is awesome and help him make wishes which turns themselves into a 10 yr old girl and one into a wart hog. Meanwhile, he has evil relatives and others are after said stone. Relatives he never knew he had. The crazy situations and antics seem right out of Lucille ball show if it included magic and paranormal that is! A fun and enjoyable read! Can't wait for book 2!

This author takes us on a wild magic ride with Tyler, an alcoholic loser, Gary his friend and Wilma, the trailer park owner. Catching a stone in his hand on the fly as someone throws it at him, he is immediately sucked into a violent and dangerous world of magic and mayhem. Gary and Wilma become a warthog and a ten year girl as they foolishly wish on the stone and they can't get back to normal. Tyler frantically tries to learn how to work the stone as he seeks out the true owner. His family are not collectively not nice people and Tyler learns the hard way as he and his two pals go on a ride across the desert to get to Vegas. Along the way, he goes through trials that leave him exhausted and feeling defeated. An excellent story that sucks you in and spits you out as surprise after surprise happens at the end of the book. There is a ton of humor that offsets the violence. Has a HFN ending with a promise of a future book. Good story.

Fun story, eclectic characters and magic.

Pesky magic that poor Tyler can't quite get the hang of. Well written, fast paced, laced with humour. Looking forward to the next book to see if these bumbling proto-heroes can get their act together and manage to do something useful.

I had really mixed feelings about this one.

On one hand, the concept was really cool. There was great comedy and portrayal of magic too.

On the other hand, I found the characters themselves to be quite grating.

Overall, it was enjoyable, but I didn't feel gripped to continue reading it and find out what happens, I just kept reading it to finish it.
