While it was somewhat cheesy, it was a sweet romance. More of the same “Yes, we kissed, but what if he didn’t mean it?” And, “I know she kissed me, but will it destroy our friendship?” silliness that I just find so annoying. Arya was sweet addition to what could have just been a rather irritating, childish back and forth between two adults. Not a book I loved, but certainly not the worst I have read. I gave it 3 stars, finding it to be no better, and no worse than most stories I read lately. If you’re looking for ‘average’, you have found it here.
Beautiful. Shows how christmas can bring people together. Also kids can fill your heart in seconds. Single fathers are strong and loving and protective. Their babies come first. Kayla stayed strong when feelings were mixed and the past trying to ruin your future. Lucas is what everyone dreams of. Smart, caring, great father, honest, protective, oh and sexy. I recommend this book to everyone.
I read December Magic by Tracey Mayhew at the request of some of my students who told me to take a break from my favorite genre of horror and crime. I don’t generally read romance novels but in deference to the Christmas season, I wanted to try something more in line with what Christmas is supposed to be about. This is an excellent short story for that purpose.
Kayla Jones and Megan Bennett are flatmates. As the novel opens we see that Kayla is about to eject Robbie from her bedroom of the flat. Robbie has a few problems; excessive smoking, drinking, gambling, womanizing, and general laziness. Why she was with him in the first place is a good question. Megan has no attachment but wants one with her boss.
Kayla and Bennet work at Santa’s Grotto during the Christmas season. Their boss is Santa Claus, also with the name of Aiden. Megan is in love with Aiden but can’t figure out how to tell him. Aiden is equally shy and Megan is about to attempt an intervention to promote awareness. Megan has had no attachments for the past year since Robbie. On one of her shifts, she found a lost six-year-old girl, Arya, who she eventually reunited with her father, Lucas. Of course, there is immediate chemistry between Lucas and Megan, a single father of Arya since Arya’s birth mother abandoned her five years earlier
The relationship between Lucas and Megan is strained somewhat due to Arya. Lucas does not want to be in a relationship which could go wrong and traumatize Arya. A further strain on their relationship is the reappearance of Robbie. While Megan is resolute in refusing a further relationship with Robbie, he has decided that persistence will eventually win her back. Tensions are evident everywhere.
Mayhew writes a good story without getting overly sloppy and sentimental. Her writing is good enough to cause me to take another look at the romance genre. The writing was also entertaining enough for me to give this four Amazon stars. I received this book through Prolific Works and joined the author’s newsletter.
It's a great holiday read. Not too much drama, clean situations, believable fun. I didn't LOL but it was still amusing because of the word games. One star off for the editing. Missing words all over. Also the expression "you guys" which bothers me to no end was prevalent in conversations between adults. I know this is a contemporary romance but there's still a language etiquette to follow, in my opinion.
Simplistic. Might belong as a short story in some teen magazine, where I wouldn't have run into it.
I'm still mystified by the "laugh-out-loud" descriptive in the blurb. I guess if awkwardness and a stalker are your thing... Otherwise, not a laugh to be found.
Very cute & sweet story. Clean (I like that). Could've been fleshed out a bit more. I think the story line could have very well been turned into one of the Christmastime rom-coms we see on Hallmark & the like every year. Overall, I liked it. (And I like Lucas.) ;)
This was a good Christmas stoty. It was well written and Lucus and Ksyla was a sweet couple that made his daughters Christmas great and how to them into a nice family.

The perfect treat for a cold winters night. When I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. I loved all the characters; they were so likable and easy to relate to. I can't wait to read Tracey Mayhew's next book.
