From the moment Lily Taylor met Morgan Wallace in their third-grade class, she knew they were destined to be best friends. Fourteen years later, she’d become the love of Lily’s life.
When a tragic boating accident takes away years of Lily’s memories, the two soulmates find themselves in uncharted territory. While Morgan is left holding onto the past they’d built together, Lily seeks desperately to fill the void in her life with answers.
Left to rebuild the foundations of their relationship, Morgan fights to stand by Lily against unimaginable odds. The two find themselves learning how to fall in love with one another all over again, and discover that sometimes all you really need is a light to guide you amidst the storm.
A steamy lesbian romance novel about the power of perseverance and hope, in the presence of unwavering love.
Erm....... I really thought this was going to be a cracker of a read.. left kind of disappointed. Its a short story, the story had great potential as its a great idea. The characters were a disappointment and there seemed to be nothing between Lily and Morgan, I was left with the fact that they needed to be together because there met in 3rd grade, the romance between the 2 felt like they were just hanging there, and seemed flat. It needed more work on there feelings for each other for this kind of plot idea..
but that's probably just me... I needed more, maybe I'm just too picky.
This was a perfectly serviceable romance that (mostly) kept my attention while I was sick and could do nothing but lie in bed and listen in between trying to sleep and trying not to puke. I think even if I wasn’t sick and could have focused on it a bit more, it still would have left me wanting a little. The premise was really interesting, and I liked that the injuries that Lily suffered weren’t glossed over really or magically fixed, but something felt lacking. It’s short and I don’t know if maybe some more time to flesh out everything would have helped? It just seemed like the romance in the present didn’t really blossom in a way that quite made sense given everything Lily was going through with her memories. It was fine. The narration by Lori Prince definitely elevated my enjoyment of it.
This is a no muss no fuss romance, will it be okay to relate it to The Vow? [Channing Tatum+Rachel Mcadams] but not as heart wrenching and frustrating. It was an okay read, no wow factor but written by an author that I consider as a favorite since I read+love her Forbidden Melody. This book is available on KU, Kindle price USD4.99.
An uncertain future faces two women in a long term relationship.
Lily and Morgan hope that love will strike a second time, after a head injury steals Lily's recent memories. Their relationship suffers a beating when stress fractures crack open. Morgan inherited her grandfather's lighthouse on the Maine coastline. The Wallace Family Lighthouse has been an family undertaking for generations. Lily works as a marine biologist and wants to move out of the lighthouse. She is ready to buy a bigger house, marry Morgan and start their family. Morgan isn't willing to take the plunge and doesn't know if she will ever be. After another in series of ongoing fights, Lily leaves to spend time alone on their sailboat. A terrible storm rages that night and the boat is demolished. Lily barely survives, but suffers memory loss and impaired mobility.
Lily mentally regresses to a time before her relationship with Morgan became intimate. Though they'd been friends since the third grade, she lost all recent memories of them living together in the lighthouse or of being in love with Morgan. In her mind, they are best friends who attend college together. Slowly retracing steps reminiscent of their original romance, Lily and Morgan find their way back to love. Waiting for them, in mocking silence, is the source of their conflict. After surviving a shipwreck, undergoing physical rehabilitation and reconnecting as lovers, Lily and Morgan face their biggest hurdle.
Lightkeeper is a very good novel. The atmosphere between the main characters is filled with equal parts drama and love. The central question, the make or break one, remains what has to change for the couple to stay together. Morgan sincerely loves Lily to the point of unyielding devotion, but in reality she is wedded to her family's lightkeeping. Before the accident Lily wanted, but now she needs, Morgan to commit to her. The choices facing them are glaring. They will grow together or they will grow apart. Lightkeeper isn't a typical romance. It resonates with some of life's hard won complexity.
This was an overall nice and sweet read witj some but not much angst. Both characters were nice enough but most of the emotion felt a bit downplayed and around a subject like this feel it shouldnt have been. Dont get me wrong it is a cute story but it just lacked that one thing.
Also...the ending chapter and the epilogue seems off...because I could have sworn the act had already been done...vague because I didnt want to give a spoiler away.
Anyway...free on kindleUnlimited, written fairly well, and I like author. Why not give it a go
One point about the structure of the story: every even chapter is just a few minutes long that talks about the past and the odd chapters talk about the present. The past scenes are always cheerful, whether they're sharing painting class or wishing upon a starfish. The present can be a little sad. At the start of the story, morgan and lily are having problems. Lily gets into an accident and loses a few years of her memory. Lily doesn't remember they were having problems, and Morgan spends most of the book trying to be the perfect girlfriend and make lily's life as comfortable as she can. Morgan hopes to make lily fall in love with her again, and lily is hopeful that her life is getting back together. I like how lily's brother is supportive of lily first and morgan second instead of being anti-morgan. It's more of a slice-of-life story in the sense we just see what they do on a typical day. There is some fluff, like morgan playing the ukulele and singing (badly) for lily's benefit, but there are some low points too.
I really like the narrator. From my listening experience, it can be difficult for female narrators to distinguish between female characters. Lori really stands out for making them all feel different. Morgan has the slightly deeper voice compared to lily so you can always tell them apart. Even minor characters like Becky and the old man jacob feel real. I do want to point out she uses very deep voices for some of the male characters, like the doctor (very minor role) and lily's brother john. Personally, I like it, but I know some people don't.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I gave this story five stars because there is something so sweet when at a young age we can meet someone and know that they will be with us till the end. I am a fan of Lighthouses so that was an added excitement for this story. To understand exactly how Morgan felt loving and caring for that lighthouse. Lily who is the love of Morgan’s life, is not happy at the lighthouse. Lily wants a family and wanted to marry Morgan but Morgan knows that means leaving the lighthouse and that is something she is not ready to do. After a terrible fight, Lily leaves and it isn’t until Morgan goes out to look for her when it gets late and the weather turns, finds her broken and barely breathing on the rocks near their destroyed boat. Life as Morgan and Lily have known will no longer be the same. This story takes you through the ups and downs of losing the love of your life even as they live. The writing in this was a little jumbled to me as Morgan and Lily remember their lives in the beginning of their relationship and having to restart their lives now. I am a fan of Magnolia Robbins and appreciate that her later work shows her growth in her writing. This still tugged at the heartstrings and I enjoyed it.....
This was my first read by this author and my first true FF read and I really liked it.
Often in our lives, we take what we have for granted, our memories, our physical abilities, our love. What happens when one tragic event takes that all away from you? Is it possible to find your way back to those who love you when you can't remember even falling in love with them?
Morgan and Lily had built a life for themselves, despite some differences of opinions as to their future. The ability to change their future is taken out of their hands in one night. Lily no longer remembers anything more than friendship with Morgan and Morgan is left with the task of trying to help Lily both get stronger physically as well as show her the life they had before the accident.
It is exceedingly frustrating to watch two people who so belong together have to fight again for that connection but Magnolia writes a beautiful story of the persistence of true love and the compromise that comes with loving another so much.
Lightkeeper by Magnolia Robbins was a good read. Lily and Morgan met in the third grade and became best friends. They later became lovers. Lily loses her memory is after boating accident. I loved reading this book and I enjoyed reading the Lily and Morgan story.
🔥🐇WARM AND FUZZY🔥🐇 This was a very invigorating story that just gently displays the devotion one companion can have for there other half. And how much the heart ❤ can direct making the correct decisions that pertain to the heart ❤. I LOVED IT😍
This was such a nice love story. Even through tragedy, it was easy to see how much Morgan and Lily loved each other. Warning: you will most likely read this all in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down!!
