Kanna takes her first steps into a new series.

This series is rated Teen although so far it isn't really all that bad. What little mature content (like some beer drinking) would probably not even be noticed by younger readers. If you decide to let a younger reader take a crack at the series flip through the 1st volume yourself and make a decision.

Following the life of the youngest of Miss Kobayashi's dragon cabal this manga series follows a 4koma style comic style which I believe is common in slice of life stories and work well for the adorable Kanna as she shares her life moments while she continues to do her best not to let everyone know she is actually a dragon. With the help of her friend Saikawa, Kanna deals with everything from trying to take care of the class pet to a quest to stay up late enough to experience what a night cap is so prepare yourself for cute overload with chuckles here and there as Kanna get's her own series. :)

Although there are plenty of cute/funny moments in the book I think Gods vs. Monsters 2017 is probably one of my fave moment as they prepare to go to a shrine for the new year. A close second is teh unfortunate fate of the class pet. It is a shame what stress can do to ya. :)

A delightful hilarious book about the daily life of Kanna! From doing an errand (and getting almost distracted by cake) to lots of friendship (an adorable things) to fireworks and nightcaps. Oh, and warning to all, don't be near a dragon when they fart. XD Unless you have memory magic of course. I really had fun reading this one and I am glad I found out about this one. Hopefully an anime will be made from this one.

It's a slice of life with all the appeal of seeing Kanna simultaneously be a child who is learning to navigate the world and a centuries old dragon who is learning how to tip toe through the world without wrecking it. Not particularly funny but never bad, I had a handful of chuckles but never laughed out loud. Not a bad time killer.

This is Dragon Maid. It's nothing insane story wise, very SOL, with light sprinklings of the mystical. Since it's Kanna (and Saikawa) focused, it's a lot more focused on "Awww, isn't that cute" diabetes inducing sugary comedy and light-hearted drama.

The art is fun, the construction is good. Solid little volume.

This is a spinoff of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid and does contain some spoilers for the main story.

Kanna is a young dragon living disguised as a small human. She is super cute and some things get lost in translation (because she’s still new to pretending to be human) but she gets by with a little help from her friends and guardians (and the older dragons who help cover up any oopsies).

Basically it’s a series of 4-panel comics that follow Kanna as she explores her new world. It’s really cute, but I DO NOT understand the characters of Saikawa (she’s way too young to be that pervy), Lucoa (please stop, Shouta is an actual child), or Ilulu (I have no idea how old she’s supposed to be, but her proportions make me uncomfortable).

So pros and cons, but not bad.

The publisher’s description on the back of this volume describes it perfectly as well as sets the reader up perfectly for the cute little adventure they’re about to dive into. What could possibly be more fun than toddling through the human world through Kanna’s perspective? I had quite a few of my own personal favorite pages or short stories in this volume, but now it’s time for you to find your own!
I also feel like one of these scenes was in the anime? But perhaps I’m mistaken. If it’s not, I’d love it if it could be. Heck, I’d even watch this whole spin off as an anime. It’s really cute, and helps bring purity back to Kanna’s often heavily lewded image.
Ravioli, ravioli, don’t lewd the dragon loli.

P.S. The mangaka mentions how they hope every story in this spin off can make the reader smile, and they succeeded. There was smiles and chuckles abound from me as I was reading this. Very cute and very light hearted. I really enjoyed it.

My 20 year old and I are anime fans, and we enjoyed the anime series and wanted to try a manga. I was skeptical, since this particular manga is a spin-off by another author (Mitsuhiro Kimura, instead of the original coulkyousinnjya).

But the new author was passionate and really enjoyed his work - as he wrote in the Afterword: "I'll work hard to make sure that the time you lovely readers spend with Kanna-chan, Saikawa-chan and their friends always puts a smile on your face." And he succeeded! Each chapter had at least one laugh out loud or "kawaii" moment for us.

Each chapter had a theme and was called "Time for [x]":
- Kanna
- Friends
- New Year's Shrine
- Jack Frost
- Karate
- Valentines
- Doll Festival
- Horror
- A Nightcap
- Errands

Two tidbits for the series canon: Kanna's power is electricity, and Fafnir's dragon hoard consists of games in an old arcade!

Review for vol 1-2.

You'll have to like Kanna as a character to enjoy this. And she is freaking adorable. Manga basically goes over the "behind the scenes" of Kobayashi's Dragon Maid through Kanna's eyes. When the camera cuts away to focus on Tohru and Kobayashi - what was Kanna doing?

It feels like this manga is a little more wholesome than the main story. The found family theme is also stronger in this. While the main line mostly glosses over their little family, here Kobayashi, Tohru and Kanna are more "upfront" about being a family. Sure you still get the usual schticks, like Saikawa getting off whenever Kanna breathes the same oxygen as her but they are less.

It's also formatted as the 4-panel shorts so it's an even faster read.

If you're already a fan of Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, than you'll love this. It isn't a standalone piece. It requires background knowledge about the series and it doesn't have it's own storyline. It's just a collection of short one shot style pieces. With that being said, if you're expecting this to have the same action and storyline of the main Miss Kobayashi manga or anime, you will be disappointed. If you're looking for cute, fairly mundane, or goofy stories, you'll thoroughly enjoy this.

It’s really cute that Kanna got her own spin-off series, although the different art style took a bit of time to get used to. Saikawa is still as weird as she is cute and although I don’t agree with how her love for Kanna is shown at certain points, it’s still lovely to see how infatuated she is with the young dragon.
I’m hoping as this spin-off series progresses, we see a bit more of Kanna’s other classmates to see how she interacts with them.

Love this spinoff series, it’s super cute and definitely adds more character to Kanna, Saikawa, and many other characters (like Fafnir for example).

Basically, this book follows Kanna as she goes to school and interacts with the other kids. She's honestly hella smart because she knows she can't show her true self to the humans, so she keeps it under wraps. She's so serious and calm that it makes any situation a bit comical lol

This manga is adorable and I'm happy that I picked it up! I can't wait to see what other cute adventures Kanna and Saikawa get up to.
