An excellent wrap-up for Shiki's backstory that had me finish the volume in one go, but the filler chapter at the end was pretty bad. Aya being sexualized left me feeling icky. It was disappointing how her character ended up being used. Hopefully, the "love triangle" is dropped, and we don't see much more of her because if it continues, I won't be able to continue the series.
It gets hilarious sometimes amidst the emotional rollercoaster. Shiki. Poor Shiki. Kabane doesn't understand unspoken words. Poor Shiki!😆
The story goes a bit darker. A dirty secret gets revealed.
We are seeking the truth to what actually happened to Shiki's mother and the answer to a folktale.
*Warnings for sexual assault and gruesome scenes
It gets more nightmarish.
What greed can do.
I feel so bad for Shiki. Boy, you can come out of this. None of this is your fault. Kabane, Akira, Nobimaru, Inugami, (I still doubt Mihai) and this aunty reader rooting for you!
And finally, the friendship blossoms!
Another new character introduction. Aya. I am so, so happy to meet this character!
Wake up and check out the fight scenes! It's phenomenal. And the bad ones never learn.
Kumi, you did your best. You are such a good soul.
Shiki and Kabane. You two are so damn hilarious. That scene on who Kabane loves got me laughing out so loud 😂
in this volume we get more information on what happened to Shiki’s mother and seeing him break down was so sad, i felt so bad for him. this series does a good job of balancing the more emotional moments with the humorous ones and these characters are so much fun, I just love them.
I'm sure in the grand scope of this series, Tademaru will end up being a minor villain, but holy crap, is he loathsome. And while he isn't technically anyone's father, I think he deserves a spot in the list of worst anime/manga father-figures of all time, alongside the likes of Gendo Ikari, and Bondrewd. All of which makes the confrontation with him incredibly satisfying.
Kemono Jihen has such a knack for setting up scenarios that are tense, horrific, action-packed, etc., and then sucker punching you right in the feels. This volume is no exception, but I personally think it stumbles a bit, adding in the love triangle between Kabane, Kon, and Aya. Granted, at least two of them are so awkward, they aren't entirely sure what's going on, and with the way the volume ends, that side plot may have already been dealt with (for now), but we'll see. It just felt a bit awkward, sudden, and not entirely necessary. Still, that's really the only blemish on this volume. Add an extra star if you're less bothered by that than me.

This volume finished what became a pretty dark arc and ended with some more ‘fluff’ chapters. Kabane is adorably clueless and his friendship with Shaki has really developed into a wholesome one. I hope they wrap up the Aya v Kon situation soon as it will get annoying quickly (even with the cluelessness of Kabane). I also could have done without Aya’s clothing being quite so skimpy but at least she has not been drawn out of proportion, especially for her age.
What happened to Shiki's mom was disturbing, and brings the series back to a more horror centered story, which is great. What is absolutely not great, like at all, is how Aimoto decides to draw Aya after she's free. That's fucking gross. There's this little character description of her, where it says she likes to dress "sporty". That was not sporty, that was overly sexualised and inappropriate. Fucking ew.
Bel volume.
Vedremo...
While I love a wrap up to a good mystery, especially regarding one of our three heroes, I HATE the newest character's wardrobe. Cobweb pockets? Cool, but a bandeau and booty shorts......on a canonically EIGHT year old? Nauseating. Hard pass. Absolutely not! The story was good, friendship is growing stronger, solving another case or two, but this detail I could have gone without.
This is about Shiki the half arachnid half human story. This had me in tears! We find out more about Shiki’s backstory and what happened to his parents. I am not going to spoil it for you but Shiki and Kabane are besties. Cant wait to read the next one.
Nobimaru is a menace and I’m here for it. I’m not really here for the sexualization of 8 year olds. I feel like that part wasn’t really plot relevant and I hope they get rid of that real soon or it’ll get the drop from me.
This series does a great job of balancing out the emotional damaging moments with some comedy and feel good moments. I really enjoyed the developments and character growth in this volume.
