“You take people, you put them on a journey, you give them peril, you find out who they really are.” ― Joss Whedon
A deadly experiment has been done in Berlin, 1945 that has the power to shake off humanity.
Fast forwarding to the present, a drug mafia El Fantasma is decided to make Columbia a war place. DEA agents are into him but will they be able to put him behind the bars?
INTERPOL agent Sabina Wytchoff’s story is nothing less than gripping.
The endless search for the major villain of the story, Luc Fortesque’s perspective provides an emotional touch to the narrative.
The author has mastered the art of jumping from one era to another with flexibility, without any hindrances. At one moment, you’re learning about the tragic incident occurred in Berlin in 1945, another moment you are ported in between the exciting events of Columbia, Naples and Africa.
The book is a blend of multiple genres – action, thriller, historical fiction and science fiction. Many stories are fabricated with a lot of research and commitment. At the end of the day, each of these stories entangle into one, representing the imaginative prowess of the author.
I especially enjoyed the names of the characters. They skyrocketed my reading experience. Douglas Misquita has pulled off a nice one here. Engaging narration proves the book to be a page-turner. With this work, the author has already given a tough competition to the established thriller writers.
The Immorality Trigger kindles the memories of Narcos. Adventurous and thrilling are the two words that sum up this work for me.
If you’re into Action Thrillers, Douglas Misquita’s books are a must check out.
Reading ‘The Immortality Trigger’ cemented in my mind why Douglas Misquita is my favourite Indian thriller author. Right from the get-go, the book pulled me in. It was very hard to put the book down while at work, and made me want to pull an all-nighter to finish it off (common sense however reminded me that I’m not that young anymore). Pick up this book on a weekend, sit down in your favourite corner (or lying down on your bed, during your commute, or anywhere you can) and get ready for an adventure. Just like Douglas’ other books, ‘The Immortality Trigger’ was very well researched and paid attention to detail. It has just the right amount of jargon (that encourages you to read up on your own) without putting too much of it in to take away from the storyline. The book is action-packed and hooks and pulls the reader in as it takes you from one destination to another, while you hold on to your seat. You better be strapped in, for this is one mean rollercoaster of a read. Fast-paced and action-packed, there is never a dull moment with ‘The Immortality Trigger’. In my opinion, Douglas could give Andy McNab, Steve Berry, James Rollins and the others a run for their money!
With a start in Berlin, 1945, “The Immortality Trigger” launches into the present day, hurtling between Europe, South America, and Africa with a gripping pace. The author, Douglas Misquita, is moved to write large-scale thrillers, and with the second book in this series, surely achieves that goal. Not only is this book vast and well-written, the story it tells picks angles with many appeals.
“The Immortality Trigger” clips along as expected, being at heart an action-thriller and were it not for the hook at the beginning taking place during the closing years of the Second World War that hinted at monstrous experiments, it may be too stuck in one genre. But for fans of the fast-paced and modern tale with global reach that dabbles in history, this is a perfect storm. Having the hint of science fiction gives the story a cross-genre feel, and the monstrous brutality at once has an otherworldly feel while being rooted in our dark reality. Turning the news on the right channel, and you will see how timely and accurate these atrocities are. All of them. From the experiments that took place in wartime Germany to the extermination happening in countries from east to west alike, the author offers some guide to facts at the end of the book.
From the outset, we follow INTERPOL agent, Sabina Wytchoff. Her grandfather has succumbed to cancer and his wish of being stored cryogenically has been just carried out. In his safe lay ties to an ancient society still very active today. Too active, as the bombing incident that killed her parents only a week before may be involved somehow.
Illegal fight rings delight in the superhuman strength of Luc Fortesque and it seems being more than human is something of a problem. He’s not the only one. An experimental and unstable drug he was given may make him a star in the ring, but Luc won’t rest until he’s found the transhumanist faction responsible. He may be an army of one, but there are armed and demented soldiers between him and his goal.
Colombian newspapers have been blaring the face-off between drug-lord El Fantasma and their rival, El Angel, who will stop at nothing to bring down the cartels. After a vicious and heart-stopping fight - in the middle of a bust free-way in daylight - a terrible clue is left bleeding in the leg of El Fantasma; a silver dagger. With no clue how this Nazi war relic came into El Angel’s possession, the threads begin to draw together when everyone involved needs answers.
By the midpoint of the book, it seems nearly impossible for these factions with their very different worlds to be pieces of the same puzzle, but readers will delight in how problems new and old have become entangled.
Overuse of jargon, while inevitable in a story that deals with military language, is much more noticeable at the beginning of the book. Nearing the middle, it is either not as glaring or has been quelled. Using the same word four times in one paragraph never sounds right, however, and there are a few points where this is troublesome. Very tightly written otherwise, going from lush landscapes to cities, drug-fuelled frenzies to tense negotiations, a few clunky paragraphs are very easily overlooked. For fans of epic thrillers, Douglas Misquita may well be the next binge read. With many previous books, this new series reads like a flashy blockbuster film, so it must be worth it to see where this author has come from. The cast is large, though not entirely dizzying so just enough to feel like a realized world of people but still keep track of all the players. To rate out of five, a four and half would be right as there is still a little tedium in jargon, but having a near Lucha Libre feel to the Colombian stand-off, the ghosts of Nazi Germany and pharma-infused soldiers leering from the shadows knocks this all closer to a perfect action novel for fans of bleak, realistic and dark action.
First of all thanks to Goodread as got this book in a giveaway and also to author. It's first time reading a German translated to English book. It's really a very good book. The story starts from the period 1945 WW2. where a person called Edmund sthal creates a drug which makes him immortal. At that point of time he was in the making of that drug which he succeeds in later period of time. He is the main antagonist in this book. Total book is to find this person. There are many protogonist but the main one is luc fortesque. This story is like watching a movie with action and drama. Edmund sthal is caught because of the Drager with a eagle handle which is used to attack on el fantasma by el Angel. while reading this book one wants to complete the book and understand why so much suspense. overall it's really good Goodread.. 😊
A powerhouse medical thriller with all the right ingredients: a secret order, illicit wonder drugs and a relentless hero that never gives up. Highly recommended.
As he did in his spectacular thriller about the global migrant crisis, Diablo, Misquita’s writing doesn’t so much flow as it growls. Each action sequence is felt fully, and with a storyteller of Misquita’s caliber, you just may need Dramamine before the first chapter is done.
A story told across 2 eras ... half a century apart.
A story told across geographies - taking the reader on a tour of infamous places across the globe. And keeping the pace just right for you to keep catching up ...
A story involving a drug mafia, DEA agents , INTERPOL agents and scores of many interesting characters including Yours Truly :)
The author was kind enough to name a character of this novel after me. AND Thankfully, the character was not killed gruesomely within a few pages of his appearance :) I might have been biased and added an extra half star to the review in the honor of the stellar 'flying' character (literally. I am a pilot in the novel).
There is good measure of suspense besides the usual action-thriller stuff which only adds to the edge-of-the-seat experience.
Yet another thing that you realize as you read through the story is the amount of detailed research that the author would have undertaken on various fronts - history, technology, weaponary, current events, political complexities, etc. Take all that research and weave it into a seamless story that creates a picturesque landscape of a story ... only to connects the dots in the climax.
This is not the first book by the author that i am reading. I have read and reviewed his work in the past and always found his narrative very engaging. The Immortality Trigger is no different. Duglas takes the bar higher in terms of his writing style.
There were times when i remembered the writings of Robert Ludlum .. and that my dear friends, is the biggest compliment I can give Douglas.

This is not a normal one setting read. You need to sit and understand in order to know the sequel. It’s a mind blowing read. The story has been described in two different eras, half and then half. You will learn and know a lot of hidden places across the world. A perfect combination of suspense and thrill.
I would like to appreciate the detailed research work done by the author. The writing style and the narration is amazing. I haven’t read such an amazing and grasping novel till now.
The Immortality Trigger begins in the World War 2 era, slightly slow, with very cliched events dripping with jargon. However, once the story reaches the present day, it picks up the pace and you start liking the jargon! It doesn't take more than a few pages to notice Douglas Misquita's skilful use of imagery, which seems to become better with every book he writes. His description makes you feel every bit of action. The story plays around the history entwining action with a hint of science fiction. The various parts seem unconnected in the beginning, but always make you think about the grander picture. And when the grander picture shows its glimpse, the book becomes one that you cannot put down. I cannot help but reiterate what I have said so many times, MAKE THIS INTO A MOVIE! I would give this a 4 and a half, half a star for the cliched start, but otherwise a wonderful read!
Personally, I like the way I interleaved flashbacks , and brought everything neatly together for a finale. If you enjoy fast adventure with a smack of history and fringe science, this one's for you
