G. Nammazhvar (Tamil : கோ. நம்மாழ்வார், 6 April 1938 – 30 December 2013) was an Indian green crusader, agricultural scientist, environmental activist and organic farming expert best known for his work on spreading ecological farming and organic farming. He led the protest against the methane gas project started by Great Eastern Energy Corporation proposed in the Cauvery delta region of Tamilnadu. Nammazhvar was the author of several Tamil and English books on natural farming, natural pesticides & natural fertilizers and was featured in magazines & television programs.

உழவர்கள் மட்டுமல்ல அனைவரும் கட்டாயமாக வாசிக்க வேண்டிய புத்தகம் இது!

ஐயா நம்மாழ்வார் பன்னாட்டு நிறுவனங்கள் வெண்மை மற்றும் பசுமைப் புரட்சிகள் என்ற போர்வையில் இந்திய சந்தையில் நிகழ்த்தப்பட்ட நாடகங்களையும் எதற்காக ஊடுருவியது என்பதையும் அப்பட்டமாக கிழித்தெரிந்து அதன் உள்ளார்ந்த வணிக அரசியலை சாமாணியர்கள் அறியும் வண்ணம் அத்தனை அத்தியாயங்களையும் ஆய்வறிக்கையாக (Thesis) எழுத்தாக்கம் செய்துள்ளார்.

இந்தியாவில் 60 ஆண்டு கால வேளாண் புரட்சி என்பது வெற்று புரட்சி என்று இப்புத்தகத்தின் ஆரம்பத்திலேயே நமக்கு திடமாக ஐயா உணர்த்தி விடுகிறார் என்பது சிறப்பு.

This book helps in knowing a little about the consequences of the green revolution and the need for natural organic farming. The details mentioned could be grasped by anyone if they have no knowledge of agriculture and has the interest to know about it. All the chapters contain only brief information on the mentioned topic and could be taken only as a introduction about the various problems faced by the farmers of our society.

An eye-opening read - It is also on how humans have devastated earth in the name of progress and advancement in every aspect, especially with regards to agriculture. How industrialization has affected the natural way of cultivation. No wonder, why Nammalvar is called "இயற்கை தாத்தா", inspired by Masanobu Fukuoka, he re-initiated Organic and farming by natural methods and it has spawned off a movement among many people who have become his ardent followers. Though he is no more, he has planted the seed of natural farming and many have already reaped the benefits. A must-read for all who intend to take up farming and want to do something back to nature.

This compilation of rants on the merits of natural farming appears hastily assembled, lacking cross-referencing and structure. For instance, the claim that Cuba has achieved 100% self-reliance through natural farming is inaccurate; the country still faces challenges. He drew heavily from leftist literature without thorough verification. Despite my admiration for him, I feel compelled to give this book a 1-star rating. His YouTube videos, in contrast, offer well-structured content with meticulous details and cross-references.
