Oh, my!! What a fantastic read, I do have a real soft spot for Medieval/Viking Romances and this is terrific. Warriors Viking Bride is a edge of seat, seductive read that captures your imagination and takes you on a wonderous journey through a time that was dangerous but also highly sexy. I have read so many great thing’s about Michelle Style’s writing and I am ashamed to say that this is the first of her work I have read, but that will be remedied from now on as I have become transfixed with her smooth and articulated writing

The relationship between Dagmar and Aedan is steamy and raw, they are actually very much a like and those similar traits does cause them to head bump each other, on numerous occasion’s and yet when they start to learn each other’s history and personal trails, they have a mutual respect for each other. But that doesn’t mean that everything is going to be all rosy, Aeden and Dagmar have a lot of obstacles to get past.

Ms Styles has created an original and I found it to be a very moving story about moving on, and second chances. The storyline is a wonderful blend of romance and action with that seductive and mysterious quality that you only get from the Medieval era. I think Ms Styles has got Aeden and Dagmar spot on, they are both highly charged individuals who need the other in each of their lives.

This is so good, I cannot recommend it more.

This is the best book I've read for ages (and I've been in bed with flu so I've been reading a lot! And I won't tell you about the books I've had to skim to the end, or fling across the bedroom in disgust) The action started straight away, and plunged me into a tale of action, adventure and romance that kept me gripped right to the end.

Honesty policy - Michelle Styles sent me an advance copy of this book, and I am already a fan. But reading this just confirmed WHY I am such a fan of her writing!

Her kidnapper becomes her protector.
To protect his people from the Northmen, Aedan makes a bargain. He will find the daughter of the chief who went missing ten years ago and return her to her father, in exchange for his people that are hostages. Best laid plans change from kidnapped to warrior, when Dagmar once again confronts her father and fights for the man she loves. Will he fight for her in return?
A non-stop emotional rollercoaster of a young woman who learns to trust a man as honest and strong as she is. You won't want to put it down.

I've just discovered historical romance and what better book to get me into the genre than this one? I was sucked in from the very start and got so invested in Dagmar and Aedan's romance- it was such a great read. I intend to read more of Michelle Styles' work especially her viking books because I enjoyed this one so much- definitely a story that will be staying on my shelf for a long time!

Dagmar Kolbeinndottar is the daughter of a famous shield maiden whose father sent them into hiding. As she grew older, Dagmar became a shield maiden too, known for her fierceness in battle. On the day the Northmen from Black Pool/Dub Linn met the Picts of King Constantine in battle, all Celtic warlord Aedan mac Connall wanted was to capture Dagmar Kolbeinndottar and return her to her father so his people would be free. He found her in a desperate situation as the shield wall of her army collapsed, fighting off several warriors and instant death. With a hit to her head, he carried her from the field and away from the fighting. Dagmar wasn't happy about the situation when she came to but had to go with Aedan. As they traveled by foot and horse towards her father's domain, each came to understand the other, two vastly different cultures. Dagmar came to know Aedan as a decent man so that when she finally met her father, Dagmar declared that only Aedan would become her husband!

I know some Viking history (thank you, The Vikings and other authors) so this story was especially interesting to me. It's historically accurate and compelling as people from two vastly different cultures learn to love each other. Many twists and turns too.

3.5 stars, rounding up because this book has (hopefully!) kicked my reading slump.

Just what it says on the tin. Dagmar is a Viking shield maiden, who makes her living by her sword. Her mother and father had an acrimonious split whens he was just ten, and her mother (also a shield maiden) defeated her father's champion, winning the right to take Dagmar away and raise her, which she did. Dagmar follows in her mother's footsteps, even leading her mother's felag after her death. She is fighting with Constantine's army when Aedan mac Connal, King of Kindra, finally finds her. Aedan is intent on paying his dead brother's debt to Kolbeinn the Blood-Axe, Dagmar's father. He will return Dagmar to her father in exchange for freedom for his country and his people.

Dagmar does not wish to return, but when one of her warriors betrays her in battle, Aeden sees his chance to swoop in and take her, which he does. Once she learns what's happened to her felag, Dagmar realizes she has little choice but to go to her father. She hopes he will allow her to lead one of his brigades, but Aeden realizes that Kolbeinn will just marry her off to strengthen his own legacy.

This is part road-romance, part forced proximity marriage. The stakes are high, on both sides: Dagmar believes her best bet to get out from under her father's thumb is to proclaim that only Aeden will suit her as a husband; she's counting on him choosing his kingdom over her and refusing. He surprises her, instead, because he believes that refusing the daughter of Kolbeinn the Blood-Axe will bring down the wrath of the father, who will slaughter his people. Dagmar and Aeden find themselves locking horns because they are both stubborn goats, too stubborn to admit to each other just how much they've fallen in love with each other during their journey back to Kintra.

I chose this book because (1) it is a medieval, the type of historical romance that I cut my teeth on, and (2) it's been on Mount TBR since 2019. I wanted something different from what I had been reading to try to shake this nasty slump, and this book did that for me. It is not just a romance, but also an adventure story/quest, with compelling MCs. Dagmar is more fully fleshed out here (I'm guessing most of Aeden's backstory is told in the first book of this miniseries), but they are both interesting characters who really look within themselves to figure out how to move forward in the best way. Their attraction to each other is organic and authentic. Dagmar is a bit immature at times, but given the way she was brought up, it's understandable. She has deep scars from her childhood, but from her hardships was born a woman who could more than take care of herself. She fights fiercely for what she wants, and is the one who actually defeats the Big Bad in the end (I was cheering her on all the way!).

I enjoyed the emotional journey these characters undertook and loved, loved, loved the ending. I'd love to add Aeden to my pantheon of book boyfriends for that epilogue alone!

It was absolutely refreshing to read a medieval again, and get swept away into a high stakes world where every word and deed counts. I'm going to seek out the other books in this series (though I think I may have another one on Mount TBR already) because I really enjoyed this one. Kudos for the author's notes and references at the end, too!!

I love Dagmar and Aedan! Dagmar is a fantastic, multi-dimensional heroine whose vulnerability unfolds slowly as she falls for sweet, sexy Aedan. Styles delves into the powerful psychological forces of doubt and distrust masterfully, keeping me turning the pages, and delivering a wonderfully satisfying ending. Awesome book!

This is the first time I've read Michelle's book and I loved it. I never knew about shield madiens til this story. Meeting these two proud people was so neat. Dagmar and Aedan were so neat to read about. This story shows the importance of give and take in a relationship. She draws you into a story and it has such neat twists in the story. I look forward to further books by this author.

"No one does Vikings better than Michelle Styles. The Warrior’s Viking Bride is a passionate romance between a Shield Maiden and a Gael warrior, who find love amid danger and betrayal. Styles’ attention to detail will captivate readers, as will her powerful characters and elaborate plots" (4 stars @ RT Book Reviews).

Nope, nope, nope.

I can't keep reading this, it's winding me up something rotten. Her borrowed dress is torn, she's riding on horseback and the "hero" is trying to convince her that dresses are better than her warrior clothes for their journey. He's also leaning towards gaslighting her into believing that everything she believes is wrong. He has no value for her opinions or thoughts. The latest was him trying to convince her of the advantage of dresses for easy sex access and I just can't keep reading this. Any agency she has and any backbone she might have developed is being eroded ready for the "hero" to rescue her from her father rather than her being the strong person she is and choosing her own path rather than the men dictating to her. This woman was a battle leader.

I like stories that involve strong female characters as leaders. This book certainly has that. However I kept getting thrown out of the story because the language and a lot of the wording sounds modern day (contraction's like can't instead of cannot, won't instead of will not, etc. instead of 865A.D which is the time frame it was set in according to the prologue. I did like the strong female aspect of the story although the female seemed to always be defending/reiterating her status as a warrior in the book. This will not be a repeat read.

Got this as a gift for Christmas.
Loved the characters but 80% of the book was them traveling and arguing with themselves.
What do I mean by arguing? I mean they kept fighting their attraction for the other because they both lacked self confidence...
It was frustrating not to yell at them OR fast forward to when the "I'm not good enough for love" rut was over.

I loved this book and its feisty, independent and loving main character, Dagmar. She burns with a righteous anger at the fate she has been cast into, but boy, does she make the most of it. If you like steamy romances, with beautiful scene-setting, great characterisation and a real sense of history, this might be for you!

Enjoyable. I liked that the hero saw that she was a good warrior and didn't belittle her skills just because she was a woman. He even relied on and trusted her to protect not just him, but his people at one point.
