HOME SWEET HOME

Letty is not very good at being a dragon. Actually, he's so terrible at it that his dad went and kicked him out of the house! What's a skittish monster of myth to do in a world where everyone sees him as material for their next suit of armor? Why, find a safe place to call home, of course. With the help of a slightly evil elvish architect, Letty's quest for the ultimate draconic domicile begins!

Letty is the most unfortunate of dragons... both kind and fearful! So when his father throws him out into the larger cruel world he struggles quite a bit. Alas all he wants in this world is his own home, and blessedly he's met the right real estate brokering Demon Lord, the quite evil elf, Dearia. As they start their search Letty meets all manner of fantasy beings, but will he ever find the right home for a kind and fearful dragon?

What can I say... I'm totally a sucker for dragons. I admit I had no idea what I was in for but it sounded funny and I was willing to be open minded. Letty is quite pathetic but Letty and Dearia together are equally as hilarious! I found it fascinating that I wasn't really a fan of Letty by himself... but Dearia gets him into all sorts of situations that you can't help but snicker at because you are quite sure that Dearia is the sort of friend where you don't need enemies! I'm actually really interested in where their friendship goes and what other situations that Dearia can stir up...

The art is rather generic. I think that is the point though... When paired with the subtle mocking humor the art plays well with it, mocking the way fantasy beings are always portrayed. It's how they act that is startling... It gives you this feeling that you really ought to think twice that you know how a typical fantasy being will act... The two main characters are the perfect examples... Letty looks just like your typical dragon, strong, powerful and capable... but Letty couldn't be more opposite to that. And the same goes for Dearia who looks noble, upright and too serious... but who plays all manner of subtle tricks on Letty that are quite evil (if funny!) Thus this art style pairs well with the humor in the story.

I have to say though I was totally not tense a moment in Dragon Goes House-Hunting vol 1. I laughed, was intrigued, shook my head, but never tense. Instead there is this building up of a relationship between Dearia and Letty that reels you in very subtly. I would have said after the first chapter that this story, this sort of dragon (the main draw) was not for me... but reading to the end you are captured. You aren't dismissing vol 2 out of hand... I found this incredible and powerful.

The plot is probably as thin as the tension... I didn't hate it and it was totally obvious what this was about... house-hunting for a dragon. I was rather amazed at how creative the situations got, despite it being the same thing over and over... an inappropriate house for our fearful and kind Letty. I did enjoy how it got all twisted up in the end with the big house... in a most dragon like area (but alas which Letty can't help but dislike). What other adventures will Letty find himself with the creative Dearia, I'm not sure, but its bound to be hilarious...

Dragon Goes House-Hunting vol 1 subverted the typical tropes dealing with dragons, elves and many other fantasy beings! It's funny and tongue in cheek and the art suits it perfectly despite it being a rather mediocre art style. There is skill here that draws you in and intrigues you quite compellingly with our house-hunting duo, Letty and Dearia and I want to see more of them!

⋆ ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Authenticity
⋆ ⋆ ⭐⭐⭐ Tension
⋆ ⋆ ⭐⭐⭐ Plot
⋆ ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Art

This series is rated Teen and although the harpies that show up in the book are bare chested and there are some relatively scary moments (for poor Letty) I am sure nothing should traumatize any one to bad if they decide to give this book a try. I know those shiny letters on the cover are quite eye catching. :)

What do you do when you are an apex predator in appearance only? Poor Letty is a disgrace to his old man when he fails to protect an egg and is exiled to the cruel world where danger awaits. Thankfully Letty's luck in not as bad as his other stats because meeting the slightly evil elf Dearia (architect, real estate broker, and Demon Lord) will begin his quest to find a home that can protect him and perhaps find some things about himself in the process.

Letty will check out several estates and meet a wide assortment of monsters as he and Dearia try to find a place that will fit him no matter how cowardly and kind he might be. After all this is Dearia's job and he is determined even if it takes a century to find the place of Letty's dreams.

This book has a lot of references that actually made me laugh so choosing a favorite moment is never easy for a book like this but I am going to go with Letty trying to get a room with some goblins after the harpies sent him. Goblins can be such lecherous beasts but they are pretty honest in their opinions when asked if they would let a dragon stay with them. Social classes and such you understand.:)

I feel bad that I don't have more to say about this manga, but it's a pretty straightforward jokey manga, however odd the premise. Letty is a dragon who lack all of the fierceness his kind is known for, and as a result needs to find himself a new domicile -- somewhere in line with his needs and tastes. Luckily, Dearia the elf happens across him and is willing to help out. Thus, let the hijinx begin!

We go from location to location, encountering wacky setups and plenty of humor. It's cute and wholesome and just a sweet, easy read. There's nothing much to sink your teeth into, and there are no stakes, but sometimes that's just what you're looking for.

Was it enough to make me read on? I'm honestly not sure. Sometimes it's really nice to have a light, fun thing to read. But this one didn't really grab me in such a way that I think I'd specifically choose THIS light, fun thing when I'm in the mood. Let's chalk it up to a maybe, but not right now.

Dragon Goes House-Hunting was charming, funny, and had so many jokes towards D&D and dungeon crawls. I was laughing out loud a few times. It also had a great message for friendship and generosity and things not always being what they seemed. But, I would have done without the bare topped woman and harpies and didn't like the pentagram looking star on the elf's book. The joke about summoning stuff, though, was pretty good. So, funny read and those who like role playing would really like the jokes because they just become that much funnier when you know what the author is playing off of.

No he podido acertar más.

Dragon Goes House-Hunting is a goofy gag manga filled with self-aware anime and video game humor. It's the nightmare of looking for houses happening in a crazy amusing way to someone else. I knew I was going to get a laugh when the splash page for the first chapter was a My Neighbor Totoro reference, and I was getting a good chuckle later from Resident Evil and Luigi's Mansion references later (and the cherry on top was when Dearia states "It's a video game reference. Those who know, know"). I appreciated these silly 4th wall break asides.

The thing keeping it from 4 stars sadly is the titular dragon, Letty. He's the straight man for all of the jokes, and while it works great for most of them, there are times that Letty's helplessness and haplessness goes from "funny" to "just plain pathetic." I get that he's supposed to be "bad at life," but there's a point where his inexperience just gets kind of cringy.

It's an amusing book with a bunch of solid jokes that land. It's a fun read, if a little frustrating at times because of Letty.

I finally read volume 1 after reading volume 5.

Letty
Because I read volumes 1-4 and 6 back-to-back, I am viewing Letty through that viewpoint. Yet, I need to keep that view separated. Letty is growing on me. In some circumstances, he reminds me of book Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon, but I prefer Letty over book Hiccup.

Dearia
Dearia makes everything better! He is my favorite character. I just like his attitude to everything even though he can be kind of scary. If he was volleyball player for Nekoma then he would probably be a setter, like Kenma.

The World
Okay, the world still confuses me, but I feel it is trying to answer the question: what do the background/opponents in a fantasy video game do all day or who are they behind the scenes? That is what I got from this volume, especially with the stat cards.

Verdict: This is an interesting concept.

dnf after Chapter 3 because 1) the artwork for the dragon is very cute but the elf looks too feminized for my tastes (to the point that I couldn't even tell he's a he, not to mention the names - elf being Dearia and the he dragon being Letty?), 2) do not appreciate the harpies being bare breasted, 3) the general tone is not clicking with me.

sigh.

I guess overall I LOVE the premise/concept of this but it (at least, this beginning vol.) falls short for me on execution. So much so that I'm having such a hard time to even finish this first vol. that I'm dropping.

(If you have something very specific for me to look forward to, feel free to mention in the comments! Or something similar to this in premise but is...better?)

Letty the fearful dragon goes hunting for a house of his own.

The idea of this is wonderful but I didn't love the presentation. Letty is sweet but a bit too far on the 'ooh, I'm terrified of everything' side. I didn't like Dearia, the elf architect. This is just a little too silly for me. I won't be reading more in the series.

This was a cute, charming, funny read. I quite liked the art. It's the first manga I've ever bought physically (all ebooks or library books up until now) so that's rather exciting. I liked Letty and Dearia, and I suspect that the dragon that Dearia travelled with in the past was Letty's dad. I want to read volume 2, and see what entertaining adventures and trials await Letty! 4 stars.

L'univers fantasy me plaît.

Tomo I" una historia super divertida y entretenida a partes iguales.
