Two sugar babies, an escort, and an event planner meet for brunch every Sunday and agree there are so many things-like money-that are more important than love. But love is an insidious thing even they can’t run away from… O’Shea has been with her sugar daddy for two years. She is not with him for money, although she gets paid plenty of it running his restaurant. No, she is with him for power, for the connections that will take her career as a painter and writer to the next level. But O’Shea is tired and there is a stranger telling her that she can have everything she wants if she lets go of that man and the life she’s worked so hard to build. Delia is an aspiring stylist- and an escort. For once in her life she feels like all of her dreams, in both areas of her life, are coming true. But then the two worlds she’s tried so hard to keep apart collide and she has to decide if she’s strong enough to turn her dreams into reality. Zion is a sugar baby and she’s happy about it. Sure, she’s twenty-nine and has never had a boyfriend but she’s got a closet full of designer clothes in a condo her sugar daddy bought her. Then an Asian man with an Irish name comes into her life and she finds herself questioning everything she ever thought she needed. Nadia isn’t even sure why she’s at brunch. She’s not a sugar baby or an escort; she’s an event planner who just wants to take her business to the next level. Then she meets Mr and Mrs, the most affluent and powerful couple in the city. They want her and they’re willing to pay for the privilege. Nadia realizes that she’s going to need women like O’Shea, Delia, and Zion in her life if she’s going to take the wildest gamble of her life. Read The New Money Girls an erotic novel about four women that begin the next chapter of their lives as friends but become sisters.
The title did not totally explain the context of this story. It took a few days and some to finish this book. Initially the story would not hold my attention for more than a few chapters at a time. But once I dug in, the story was very interesting. Women who chose a life as high end call girls. Go figure, but the story was more than that. Mr and Mrs. Was annoying as heck. I'm sure there was a purpose for that too. Overall, 4.0 stars.
What an amazing book. This is, at its core, a romance novel that explores the complexity of many different types of relationships including the one you have with yourself. It's also a tale about entrepreneurship and how such a mindset can create a path for you in life regardless of others. This story starts off following a group of women that have chosen what many would call questionable career paths. But, these women show us the power of creating your own path in spite of what friends, family, or society have to say for it. This empowering message of chasing and follow your own path in life comes from some unlikely sources. These characters also deal with relationships of all kind. There are good, bad, confusing, unconventional, abusive, loving, and healing relationships with a focus on sisterhood in a way that makes you reevaluate your own friends and relationships. This book is juicy with some creative sex scenes that aren't raunchy and in your face but are beautiful and raw at the same time. It has a flow that takes some getting used to but once you get it I promise you'll be hooked like I was. I applaud the author for the risk she takes in this book along with some beautiful character development that is never rushed, which is why when the book ends it will have running to start the next one. I am now forever a fan of Jimi Gaillard-Jefferson work. I will be reading any and everything this author will be putting out from here on out.
I can't remember why I bought this book. However, I found myself drawn into the story and once I started reading I couldn't put it down. This is the story of O'Shea, Delia, Nadia and Zion, all self proclaimed sex workers. There was practically no backstory on the the main characters, especially O'Shea. The girls formed a sisterhood based on their professions and how they planned to evolve.
There were two many viewpoints to keep up with. Even though I read this book in one sitting, only stopping to cook and eat, I had to keep rereading parts in order to know who was speaking. I think if there had been more backstory, it would have been easier to keep up with the speakers. There were too many things that kept the story from being unbelievable. I kept reminding myself that this was fiction.
The blurb speaks of steamy sex but the book ended with sex beyond erotica, bordering on BDSM and porn. That wasn't as much a turn off as I was prepared for that considering the ladies professions and could just skip over the sex I found distasteful. The BDSM added nothing to the story and seemed a little out of place for Nadia. In the first chapters of the book, Nadia was concerned with what people thought when they saw her with O'Shea. Would "they think she was a whore and may be guilty by association..what would her mother say?", after she found out that O'Shea, Delia and Zion were sex workers. Within weeks she was involved in a threesome with a married couple.
For me that wasn't the worst part. Later In the book, in the conversation with her Mom when she said “...I think you need to understand that my life isn’t some tug of war between divine beings that I have no control over..." No matter what decisions Nadia made about her life, to dismiss God, who is full of unconditionally Love for all believers and nonbelievers, with those words, bordered on blasphemy. The author needs to remember that believers and nonbelievers read her books. Yes, Nadia needed to let her mother know that she was an adult and could live her life without her approval since her mother was a negative person who claimed to be a Christian. Nadia also had gone to her mother for approval for years. Surely, she didn't expect her mother to accept her lifestyle overnight.
The book did not live up to its premise - ladies forming a sisterhood and always being there for each other. Why did the author have to add shock factors in describing sex in sometimes graphic detail. So unnecessary. Still, I found the book entertaining enough to read I the books in the series, only because they're on sale as a bookset. Hopefully, the other books will flesh out the characters with more backstory which would explain a great deal about how they came to their professions. Why is O'Shea the leader of the group? Why did she choose Nadia to be part of the group? Who were Zion and Delia and how did they all become part of the sisterhood? I loved how the ladies evolved and could see them all becoming more than sex workers. I can always delete the books person my Kindle.
Listen I chose this book based off the cover art. It is beautiful and intriguing. It's something I never do, but I'm so glad I read this book. While I didn't relate to their profession I related to who they were and how they felt as women. O'Shea the protector, the fixer, the artist seemed to have it all but was suffocating, drowning in the job she chose in order to have it all. Her girls turned to her for guidance and support and she was always there. Although they did not know how to help her because she kept her struggles to herself. She was the most intriguing and although sure if herself externally, she had a lot of emotional work to do internally. Nadia, Ms. Goody too shoes herself really evolved throughout this book. She went from being judgmental, essentially programmed to live her life based on the world's norms to bring extremely open. Open enough to be in a non traditional relationship that made her happy. Delia, sweet young Delia was the baby of the crew. She was struggling trying to find her purpose. Feeling like she had nothing to offer her friends and they would realize she didn't belong. She started to understand her worth and who she was as the book went on. She also seemed afraid of a real relationship I look forward to reading more about her. Zion, ooh chile she pissed me off so bad in this book. Sis went from being sad and lonely to in love and content. Everything she wanted at her fingertips, then when shit hit the fan she ran. Refused to face her problems because she didn't feel worthy. It was so real because we have all prayed for something then once received it had no idea how to handle it. I yelled at her a few times lol. I love reading about black women and all of our nuances. This author did an amazing job humanizing the characters. They felt like we could be friends. Definitely worth the read and I definitely will continue the series.
I really enjoyed this book. As a lover of classic literature, I rarely read modern novels. This time I was searching for something modern with millennial characters that I could relate to and I found it right here. This is a story about friendship, romance and ambition. It shows a very liberal view on sexuality and there are many steamy scenes that don't leave much to the imagination. What I loved most about this book was that it took me into a girl's world: talks of brunch, beauty, shopping, love. The images were easy to visualize, the rhetoric sounded very realistic. Though a bit too predictable and far-fetched at times, particularly on the topic of Mr and Mrs and the power that they wield, the story allowed me room to imagine and to dream. This may not be my reality but who is to say it is not happening somewhere to a great group of best friends right now?
This is the first book from this author and I enjoyed it. I was initially confused on the flow of this book, but once I figured out that this book includes the stories of the 4 main protagonist, I became even more interested. Zion, O’Shea, Nadia and Delia are friends, bound by circumstances and as close as sisters. They love each other and will do (have done) anything for each other. This book showcases each of their triumphs and failures with directness and candor. I enjoyed each of their stories for different reasons. Why I may not agree with their initial career choices, I found myself rooting for them nonetheless. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this series.
This was an interesting read and, totally, not what I expected. Honestly, I started Cahir's story and realized his backstory was in this series so I came here for more info and I'm not sure if I want to read 4 more books of this.
You have these women who are sex workers and, from the beginning, claim it proudly and are passively judgmental towards Nadia who they slowly bring into their way of thinking. All this and they're not happy or content in that life. I also foresee Nadia being hurt because she totally is NOT made for this life and a long term thruple doesn't work when you have a pair with a deeper connection than the one you will ever have with them. PLUS they have history. Their third is always interchangeable...the pair is not.
edit: I decided to continue on. Firstly because I wanted to get to a point with Cahir so that I could read his story, but then I wanted to know more about O'Shea, how things were going to end up with Nadia, and little Delia. So I'm invested and must complete all 5 books.
What I first appreciated was the disclaimer of language and sex. When I first started reading I almost stopped because I thought it was going to be about the negative side of living as a call girl. I decided to keep an open mind to try and understand another person’s lifestyle. I may not agree with it but the author did show women who had dreams and goals and also what happens when woman work together to build their dreams. The author did a good job creating the characters.
This book was different from anything I've ever read. It made me think and feel and loose myself in each woman's story. They built on each other's weaknesses making them strong and had each other's back in every situation. It's nothing like having a sisterhood with a group of people who love you unconditionally. This book displayed that and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is this first book that I have read by you. Not sure just yet. I didn't really relate with the characters that you created. I think ill read another one of your books to see how we fit. This book wasn't for me, but I won't knock it. Maybe better suite for other readers.
I found this book by accident and that God I did because this book just unraveled for me. I was not expecting this story but so glad I read it. These four women aren't what you think or are they. From that first brunch to that last page I was hooked. Am definitely going to be finishing this series.
Page turner from beginning to end. Definitely not the way I expected this story to turn out but pleasantly surprised. The new money girls took the cards they were dealt and flipped them into something that I don’t even think they could’ve imagined. Looking forward to what the girls bring next in the series.
I loved the characters in this story and so glad to see at the end that there are more books about them! The story flowed well and made me want more. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes adult books with characters that look like us! Off to buy the next book in the series now...
I loved the relationship between the characters in this story. Watching their friendship and love for each other grow on it page was amazing. This was a different read for me but most definitely an great one!!
Very good read, but didn't realize there was a part 2. I am not really good for 2 part or 3 part stories. Like for a book to end & not have to read another part.
Jimi oh, Jimi! I haven’t felt this way about a read and a VERY longtime, thank you for bringing back my passion for a good darn book. This is your year!
