Santana Blair has given me a lot to think about with this book...good and hard. That's what a book should do, though, yes? Make us think--make us imagine and live and love with our characters.
Parker and Summer are everything that is good and right about YA today. They are sweet, a little mysterious in their own ways, and in the end, they are in love. The battles they go through don't dominate the entire novel which is refreshing because often, we obsess over pain and heartache and forget that there is a story. Not so in Dear Summer. We see pain, we see heartache--gah, do we see heartache--but we also see fun, and young love, and passion.
I give no spoilers, so you'll have to read to see what I mean. I will, however, leave you with my favorite quote from the novel. "Ride the Ferris wheel. Ride it and feel--And if the fear of falling gets to be too much, look up."
You wrecked me in the best and worst ways, Santana. I don't forgive you, but I do thank you for this story and these lives. xoxo
