"Great quick read with lots of tips and tricks for any age group!" How did this happen? You have hit mid-life and gained so much weight you scarcely recognize the face in the mirror. You know you need a lifestyle change, but have tried and failed so many diets you aren't sure if losing weight is possible anymore. IT IS. Abby Volmer, author of" Tips for Losing 100 Pounds after Age 50 by Someone Who Actually Did," lost over 100 pounds at age 52 and brings hope and inspiration to men and women who wish to do the same. Abby courageously describes her own struggles and successes of weight gain and loss and provides practical tips and tricks that will support you in your personal weight loss journey. This book does not provide a prescribed diet plan, but instead, the tools you need to be successful in weight loss no matter what plan you choose. You will find insight into healthy weight loss by uncovering the WHY behind your goals, discovering secrets that help to hold you accountable, gaining ideas for introducing (or re-introducing) exercise into your life, and learning useful techniques for keeping you on track when the diet and exercise track gets treacherous. Weight loss is not easy after age 50, but it is possible and, as Abby reveals, can be a joyous evolution.
I’ve been reading diet books and trying different diets programs for years, with intermittent success. I keep hoping for a quick and easy fix to lose 40 pounds. This book made me finally realize that is not at all realistic. It is a hard, uphill battle, and you need to be committed to the work in order to succeed … exactly the opposite of what I was hoping to learn, but at the same time surprisingly motivating.
More than half of the book focuses on creating a new lifestyle of healthy eating and daily exercise in order to maintain your weight loss. This made me further realize the battle continues for the rest of your life, and if you’re not ready to accept the fact that you have to make permanent lifelong changes with a focus on your health, you will not succeed.
Abby writes with a lot of joy. She seems excited and happy with her new lifestyle. She gave me hope and a sense that I can do this. You just have to buckle down and stay focused. A quick read, but if you really pay attention, you’ll find the answers to your weight struggles.
This book is very helpful for any one over the age of 50. As long as weight loss has been their struggle most of their life. People need to understand how important all of these things in this book really are to be able to lose weight. Just reading a book won't get you there ,you have to want it and do the work. Over all it is a motivational book.
This is a relatively short book, but it was what I needed to get inspired to lose weight. As someone over 50 and who has mobility issues (because of MS), I won't be able to follow all of the tips. But, this is a step in the right direction.
Liked the direct and concise description of Abby’s journey in weight loss. Appreciated “just enough” of her personal story with a summary of tips. Also appreciated the that maintenance after weight loss was addressed in this book.
Not doctrinaire, just a good overall approach to weight loss. The author couches her personal success in rather democratic terms that very approachable.
This books is truly insightful and helpful for how to lose weight and maintain one's new life style. Lots of excellent and compelling self growth questions. It helped me put together a successful plan and learn what I needed.
I love the way the author told her story! She is inspirational motivating and relatable. I have experienced significant success and slips. What she shares makes sense and is doable!
This book unfortunately gives advice that is not science or evidence based and at times, could potentially be harmful. I appreciate the author's experience, but just because her experienced worked for her, doesn't mean it would work for anyone else.
