Without the usual support from her beloved cat, family, and friends, can Ashley help bring the guilty party to justice, or will their vacation turn fatal?
DNF (did not finish). I only read the first book of the 4 book series. Here is an example of a writer desperately in need of a good editor. Her story was interesting, but the main character was very whiney about her being on the zoftig end of the spectrum. She is also very much on the fence with the guy who is interested in her and runs the bakery. The book is very centered around food with a mystery thrown in. Kitty is a bit helpful but not really all that supernatural necessarily. Altogether the book was mediocre and I wasn't willing to read the other three to find out if her writing style improved. I felt that her character needed to be less namby-pamby. She was a bit of a victim of her issues and not strong enough to have a book written about her. A good editor could have gone in and really helped the author shape up the story so that it appealed to the audience and didn't have a heroine that whinged all the time. I'm not saying that you can't have a flawed heroine, it just didn't work in this case. Hopefully the author will have some help with her future stories and this was just a first try.
The ultimate cozy read! I know I may be a crazy cat lady, and I am a lover of a good mystery but I'm no sucker for lame cozy cat mysteries -- so while I like the idea of this micro-genre I don't like many of the books that pop up in cozy cat mystery searches -- I love these. I enjoy the characters, the writing is smart and I have yet to solve the 'who done it' yet.

Ashley the cook and her side kick Charlie the cat investigate a murder
Ashley,a very good cook, and her best friend and side kick, Charlie the cat, eat their way through these books picking up some friends and family along the way. Arlene and Burt, her parents, Detective Nate, old friend Sean the baker, best friend Lara, and all the crooks she didn’t know lived in her peaceful little town. These stories are each a gourmet delight to the senses and are rich in fun and scary drama. The cat and Ashley are great detectives. I had a cat that walked on a lease and yes they draw a group of people like crazy. They love the attention and treat it as their due. Mine wasn’t afraid of dogs. And the dogs knew it and ignored her. Back to story. Well written lots of laughter, love of family, some sex, not much, and leaves you liking these people.
Ok, I liked it. Loved it? no. I was so tired of reading about the meal preps. It was like all the characters could not function or interact unless there was a small banquet going on. It was obsessive. Totally over the top. The stories were good although predictable. At times amateur deliveries of the content. It is a book that is comforting as it is not over the top suspenseful. An easy read for those time you want a book that y0u CAN put down. Please understand I would read more by this author however I would not be waiting for the next book coming out. The recipes at the end of the book were not anything special.
This is a box set with 4 stories. I love cozy mysteries and this was very good reading. I enjoyed 4 good stories and the trail of solving each mystery. I loved the main characters, they were fun and I could identify with Ashley. The situations they got themselves into were always interesting. Each story was unique, was fun and entertaining. I look forward to reading more of Laurie Anne Marie's books.
Like Murder She Wrote, you don't want to be a friend of the main character. Too many of her friends die. I enjoyed reading all of the stories. With each story the characters became more interesting. Only negative things, I thought, the name of the town could be better. And, as the main character asked questions of suspects she tended to piss them off and not get the information she was trying to get.
After starting to read this 4 set book I realized that I had already had read the first 3 books. The only thing I found a little boring about the book was the length of time the book entailed talking about food preparation and how the father shouldn't be eating the food. More time spent solving the mystery
I enjoyed all 4 books but I did get tired of the eating. I feel like your heroine was a very over weigh person that ate with both hands. I don't know why you would portray her like this. I won't read anymore because I found it degrading. It's like all they thought about was food and how fast they could shovel it in their mouths and that is glutney. It detracted from the story for me.
This gets five stars because of the charming cats! The characters grow on you but Charlie is a darling from the first word! At first Ashley annoyed me because she was too obsessed with food, but she becomes more interesting as time goes by. The last book was the best in my opinion!
Yep, here's another great series. Very few "bumps" (missing words, mostly, and only a very few of them) to interrupt some fantastic plotting and characterization. Each book builds on the experiences of the one before, although they could be read separately. I don't know who I loved more -- Jesse, Sean, April, Burt, Nate . . . nah, it's Charlie and Susie.
Interesting . The plot kept on track rather then jumping all over . Kept it interesting by working her cats into the solving the cases.would recommend reading.
Not being a foodie, and a very picky eater at that, I did not appreciate all the food choices and prep. The characters were real and the plots were well developed. Good read. I liked the Shakespearean quotes.
I'm am a animal lover so I when I read the synopsis of book I knew this a book for me. Love Charlie an his ability to sniff out clues an his uncanny ability to earn Ashley of danger
I really enjoyed these four mysteries. Likeable, well-drawn characters and, of course, an extremely smart cat in the leading role. I recommend them to anyone who likes a good cozy mystery with happy resolution. I hope she writes more!
This is interesting, lightweight reading. I understand the time spent on prep and cooking. However, the mystery solving is so far from reality, reading it is almost a time waster.
Really enjoyed this series. Loved the characters and the cats are a hoot. The plots are not predictable and there are some interesting locals in Comfortville. Highly recommended!
So enjoyable I had a hard time putting down my tablet. Could hardly wait to get to the next book and the next and the last. Will be looking forward to your next one!
