The hilarious follow up to Mapton on SeaWhen rumours of a potential swingers' caravan camp start to circulate in Mapton-on-Sea, outspoken pensioner, Gina, leaps into action, forming protest group the Mapton Knights. Determined to 'Keep Mapton Decent' the residents soon find their town is a hotspot of scandal and long-buried secrets. As events spiral farcically out of control, Mapton becomes a circus of media attention, but no one's quite sure who is cracking the whip. Welcome back to Mapton. It might be the off-season but tears, laughter and eccentricity are as switched on as Mapton’s Christmas lights.
Sam Maxfield attempted to write her first full-length novel at eleven. She grew up in Canada and England. She moved seven times before she was eight years old and spent much of that time in her own imagination spinning stories. Sam holds a BA in English and History, as well as an MA in Creative Writing. She taught English Literature for twenty years and still runs creative writing workshops.
More than anything Sam loves stories. She devours most genres, fiction and non-fiction. She is currently finishing the last book in the Mapton-on-Sea trilogy: The Last Resort, Mapton Rising, and Make it Mapton.
Previous novels include the magic-realism Western, West of the Sunset, Victorian detective story The Army of Righteous Deliverance, and Maddie's Magic Christmas, her first book for children. She is a contributor to various magazines and newspapers.
All the characters you loved in the first book are here. We learn the back stories of some of the characters and come to value them even more. Butterflies emerge from their shells and show true colors. Sam Maxfield has real ear for dialogue and a gentle eye for the challenges of aging.
A lovely book, love the Mapton gang. From Yorkshire and a regular visitor to the East coast I can relate to Mapton, the ring down, old fashioned seaside town. The characters just enhance the setting. There's humor in the story, but Sam tackles some sensitive, relevant issues with honesty and empathy. All adding to the quality of the story.
Seems to be the centre of the universe, in that all of life is represented in its pages. I love the side stories but the main one has shockers enough to keep you page turning. Recommended for a thoughtful read
Such an amazing second book about Mapton and its marvellous menagerie of residents, their comic capers and the ups and downs. Yet again taking me back to my favourite place on this planet😉
I loved the second book of the Mapton on Sea series just as much as the first. It’s lots of fun, laughter but also heartwarming to meet up again with all the characters.
