Sweet Treats #1

Candy Coated Chaos

Rate this book
Alexander

Being with Tavin is like eating those candies that start out sweet and then turn so sour, your eyes water. When she's happy, her radiance is stunning, but her glow is dimmed by her dark secrets. I knew from the moment I laid eyes on her, sucking on that lollipop, that there was something unique about her. I was right in more ways than one, and while I don't know the extent of suffering that her life entails, I'll do whatever I need to, to convince her she can trust me. I just need to hang on to her long enough to do that.

Tavin

When he wraps his arms around me, and his warmth makes me feel safe, it's easy to pretend that this is real. I knew going out with him was a bad idea, I just never imagined it would go this far. It was only supposed to be one night. One night to feel like a normal girl. I didn't plan for this and now, every day that passes puts us deeper in danger. All I can do is make the most of every moment with him, so when the time comes for this to end, then at least we'll be left with beautiful memories.

Trigger Warning: This novel contains drug use, explicit sexual content, violence, and sensitive subject matter which may be triggering to some readers.

Buddy read with Lily.

Algolagnist-Form of sexual perversion in which the infliction or the experiencing of pain increases the pleasure of the sexual act or causes sexual pleasure independent of the act.

Nothing brings a self centered asshole down to earth like falling in love with a drug addict.

Jesus, the only thing running through my head is who is Logan and what all did he do to her?

Pretty sure Tavin and I were thinking the same thing when he said ‘playroom.’ Certainly not a room with foosball and an air hockey table.

Her needs are gonna fuck him up in the long run. Some lines, once crossed are never reversible.

I’d like a man’s perspective on this; if you were given the ok to hurt someone who has no boundaries as far as pain. How far are you willing to go?

It’s almost like Charity took certain scenes out of 50 Shades and did them better. Did them the right way. This is definitely a hardcore version of that mess.

This is also a lot of sex, I will say it’s been creative to a certain degree so it wasn’t mind numbing but still perhaps too much. That and Tavin being trained to enjoy pain reminded me of Life of Anna.

Lex is good for Tavin even though she thinks she’s between a rock and a hard place. We still don’t know what that reason is, I’m sure we’ll come to that point, hopefully in the next book. And while Tavin did bring out all of Alex’s goodness, she’s also really good at breaking him.

I feel like the cover is deceiving us.

It's Charity B for heaven's sake. It can't be sweet.

-----------

3.5 stars

Just like the rest of Charity B. books, this one is also a little hard to describe. It's not a safe romance. It ended with a cliffhanger.

As for content warning,

What actually surprised me about this book was the little happy moments they have in between all these smutty scenes and drama. I mean like, their dates were so cute. You can tell the joy these people were having, the moment where the hero stopped and took in the beauty of the moment itself. What a joy. It made me forgot about how dark this book sometimes.

Another thing that won me over is the hero. Sure, he's a manwhore but what a completely besotted lover he is when he's with the heroine.
Plus, it's very rare for me to see the hero completely head over heels first before the heroine. I love it!

P.s. buddy read with Debbie!

What an amazing debut novel for the talented Charity B.!! Candy Coated Chaos is an emotionally stunning read that will leave you begging for more. It's sweet and savory, happy and sad, dark and gritty, and in all the right ways. Charity reveals bits of the story so expertly that it keeps you turning page after page. And the characters...they will grab you by the heart and leave you breathless. Be prepared for a roller coaster ride, and be warned, it gets dark, and will only get darker as the story continues on. I can't wait for more from this new author!!!

The is one of those books that takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride and when it’s over leaves you wanting for more. The author did an excellent job developing her characters to the point that at times you love them and at other times you hate them. Kudos to the author on her debut novel! I am looking forward to seeing what sweet treats the author has in store for us as this series continues. I would highly recommend this book.

2.5 WTF Did I Just Read Stars!

Well this is definitely an odd book. I was intrigued by the blurb and I felt like a dark read so I decided to try this, especially because this author writes pretty dark stuff. I wasn't really expecting what was in this book though, and I was hoping it would be a bit darker. But overall there was a lot of stuff wrong with this book.

First off, the first 25% of this book is terrible in everyway, and it only gets a bit better from there. This is a very try-hard kind of book. The first I think 16%, the hero was a try-hard manwhore, as in the entire beginning he either thinks about having sex with multiple women, or he is having sex with them on screen, even one of them was an employee - he has VERY loose morals. He has sex with AT LEAST one woman, EVERY DAY. And apparently he HAS to mention this, because of course it is important for us to know. He takes them into his apartment, his office at work, and pretty much everywhere he can get his hands on them, always bragging, thinking and talking about women at all times of the day. This got to be way too much so it was just cheesy and OTT, and trying way too hard to make the reader think he is just all that. Even talk of his work and business is trying to hard to make him this almighty, rich, playboy man. Though this was annoying, I didn't get too mad because I felt pretty disconnected from the story and characters and was just eye-rolling the whole time.

The heroine is as we know, a prostitute, though I think it is something deeper than that such as it having to do with sex trafficking or something, though she never seems skittish or afraid of sex or anything like that. The heroine is a druggie, she can only get off on pain, and again the author tries too hard to make her innocent but then super sexual, and it gives you whiplash.

The first time the hero and heroine meet, she just got done being paid to have sex with one of his employees, and he was in the middle of having sex with someone in his office, great isn't it? When they go on their first date and first time having sex, the heroine leaves instead of staying for the night, making him mad apparently which then he proceeds to have sex with everything that can walk starting the day after, even an almost foursome with his friend too. He sees her again right after she has sex with his employee again, and follows her home, because he can't get her out of his head with the million of girls he's doing and all the weed he's smoking. He then proceeds to find her overdosed body which he then takes home where he and his sister care and try to get her clean.

One of the only things I did like about the hero was he was possessive of her, and when they get back together he does stay devoted to her and doesn't even look at another woman, as he is very against cheating. But after the ending who knows? As she stays with him, we find out one of her first "clients" was the hero's married dad who KNEW she was FIFTEEN when he raped her, not sex, rape, because that is what it was, whether any of them acknowledge it or not, which no one really does.

There's a lot more messed up stuff about this book, such as the heroine being an addict, and yet the hero is always giving her weed and valium, because they're not "hardcore" drugs. Yeah okay. And is fine with her partying where there are drugs everywhere cuz that won't make her want to relapse. They also make a phone sex video which was odd and out of nowhere and I could have done without. And how quick he is into the whole "giving her pain" thing while sex was weird. There was also WAY too much sex in this, which wasn't really good, and yet almost every scene with them has it.

Then at the end, after Alex has taken care of her for so long in a weird way, she leaves him and goes back to her "handler" because she was afraid of what he would do to her or her friend if she wasn't there. So she hurries to drug herself up to prepare for what the handler would do, which he hits and has "sex" with her, and then the hero walks in, sees he is being cheated on, and breaks up with her, and that's pretty much it, so who knows what the hero will do with OW now.

Going into this book, I knew it was dark, so I didn't really have triggers going in, but this book was just a mess and I was so disconnected from it all. I'm actually surprised I didn't DNF. The first half the writing was pretty bad, but it got better the second half, so I just kept reading. I pretty much learned nothing about the heroine which was really annoying, but is probably why I will be reading the second, and I'm already this far in. Otherwise it was pretty bland, OTT, exaggerated, and nothing special, so I probably wouldn't recommend.

This book was an awesome surprise! I am shocked that this is a debut novel. The writing is fantastic, easy to follow, and addicting! The author definitely did her research on all of the topics that this book touched on. I loved trying to figure out what was going on. I kept trying to guess and waiting for the other shoe to drop.

It took me a little bit to warm up to Tavin, but once I did I loved her. Alex was perfection from the beginning, I love him so much. This plot was so original, this is not something you have read before. The characters, including the side characters, are interesting and unique. I have to know what happens and need book 2 right now. I am so invested in these characters and their story!

Ahhh Charity B, we meet once more!

I'll say it time and time again. Charity B has a flavor to her writing. Once your palate gets used to it... you know it the moment you taste it again, even with your eyes closed.

...and again, Charity B did not disappoint.

Let's start with the cover. First thought that comes to my mind when I saw it a while back was : hard candy. The urban dictionary version, you know what I'm saying?

I wasn't sure if I was in the mood to read about a druggie. So this book series has been on my TBR for quite some time. But after another recommendation on one of my book groups, I decided it must be the right time. I dove in head first. I didn't even remember what the blurb stated.

So here we are. Book 1. Another very complicated love story. Charity B is good at that.

We are all capable of love. But how does one go about loving someone with a past (and present) like Tavin's? How does one go about holding on to it? What are the probabilities of it working? How does one even go about thinking YOU will be enough? How does one even think all the interworking and tangled webs it weaves ... won't affect you? How strong are you to overcome the unraveling at the seams? Once you pull ... .it comes apart so easily, how do you stop it from coming apart to far?

Air in motion. The wind. When hot air and cool air collide. This is how our two main characters come to meet. Like the wind blowing their directions just 1-2 degrees, causing the start of force gale winds.

One night that wasn't supposed to happen... ends up being the beginning of a tornado. The two are sometimes swept with the violent rotating, going in circles. Sometimes the two are stuck in the middle, with a mess violently reacting all around them. The only calm and solace they can find ... is with each other. But even that's not enough.

Sometimes, love isn't enough.

Sometimes, there are so many factors and parts that come into play that we get lost in the chaos.

Even if it's Candy coated chaos.

I really liked this book... but I think didn't love it like my friend who recommended this book. For me, too much was left unexplained, so I desperately need Sweetened Suffering to find out how things continue!!! I'd say, for now 4 star for Candy Coated Chaos, in anticipation of book #2.

5 stars!
I would never call this book dark romance, you need to know that I absolutely HATE romance, it's more of a f*cking DARK smut. And it's absolutely what im looking for.

The sexual scene don't take all the place because the story is just too good for that, you really get attached to the characters and discover progressively some mysteries and details about the protagonists. If it was not for work I would have read this book in a day.

The people who know me, know that I only read disturbing stuffs, but it's never enough, so when I tried this book, I was not really hoping for something pitch black but that cover and those triggers warning made me want it anyway. And goddamn I was wrong, this is freaking dark. Maybe not Rayne Havok level of dark but still pitch black.

So if you like Smut, Disturbing and Dark novels just try it, seriously.

WOW!

I was first drawn in by the title and beyond curious as how it would fit with the story. I was pleasantly surprised and astounded by Charity's debut novel. This book was incredibly hard for me to put down from the start! I had to stop 60% of the way through just to get some sleep. I fell HARD for these main characters and in between all the "Chaos" could not help but root for them both. The story develops beautifully leaving questions but I'm sure we'll find out those answers in the next book! And how excited I am that there is more coming! Charity wrote about challenging subject matter with ease and poise that would help even the bashful reader ease into. I cannot wait to see what other eye opening scenes Charity leads us to in her next book. Highly recommend this story to be bumped to the top of your next TBR!

Candy Coated Chaos is a really well written debut novel. I absolutely loved it and ended up reading it in one sitting. I really couldn’t put it down.

Tavin is a broken and damaged character. My heart broke for her. When Alexander meets Tavin his life changes forever. He wants to help her so much. I’m not going to go into the storyline as you need to just jump into this and read. Heed the trigger warnings tho.

The cover and title is so deceiving. Yes there’s sweetness but there’s oh so much more.
I felt as if I was on a rollercoaster of emotions while reading this story.
After that ending I’m really looking forward to reading more from this author. Brilliant debut novel that I highly recommend.

******** 5 STARS ******************
It was really hard to believe that this was a debut novel from Charity B. This book was freaking awesome and don't let the sweet cover fool you into thinking this one is all sweet, innocent and cute. This had candy coated written on the outside and dark and delicious on the inside. Much like the 'Sweet Treats' from this story. This story started off with Alexander - rich bachelor who likes to have his cake and eat it too. Then out of nowhere Tavin knocks on his door and turns Alex's world upside down. This book reminded me of a day at a Fair - eating cotton candy, being scared shitless of the rides but challenging your fears and finding out that you actually love the thrill of the ride. I am so ready for book 2.

Oh my!!! Where do I start? I’ll start at the ending- that’s a great way to leave you wanting more. This is a dark, humorous, loving, have you holding your breath, and wanting more. The characters make you fall for them, feel for them and make you mad. Tavin will make you angry but you fall for her because of her situation. Alexander is just delicious and you want him from the beginning. They are both strong and weak and makes the story so readable. I could not put this down but as life goes on you do have to stop and eat sometime. Readers will enjoy this and this is my first time reading this author and enjoyed every minute.

The following review is of the ARC which was given to me by the author for free in exchange for my honest review.

I almost declined the offer for an ARC due to being busy – boy would I have missed out! Like many others have stated in their reviews, it’s astounding how well written this book is and how surprising it is that this is Ms. Bailey’s first published work. CANDY COATED CHAOS is more eloquent and better edited than many of the more famous authors I’ve read lately! When I first received this book, I decided to check out the first few pages. Five hours later I couldn’t to put it down despite having other priorities! The characters are extremely well developed and hold secrets that shocked the he|| out of me! The storyline is what’s most impressive, innovative unlike anything I’ve ever read; CCC is far from your typical BDSM romance or tale of drug addiction! My only complaint about this book is that it ends with a cliffhanger and now I have to wait find out what happens to these captivating characters! Bravo and congratulations to Charity Bailey for writing such an amazing book!!!

Candy Coated Chaos shredded me! I often found myself reading this amazing story while tears were running down my face. I fell in love with Alexander and Tavin. I cannot believe this is a debut novel, because it is so well written and evokes all of the "feels". I can write reviews even after reading very emotional books, but I have struggled writing this review. I struggle because I'm so torn up. Tavin is this almost ethereal character. She is child-like in her seemingly innocent view of the world, but she is far from innocent. She is so damaged and wounded that I wonder if Alexander can save her or will he die trying. I cried for her,for him and for the hopelessness of their situation. I felt like I was standing on the edge of a cliff in a wind storm during this entire book, such was the intensity. This book introduces you to the characters, sets the stage for their continued story and leaves you breathless for more. It does end with a cliffhanger, but the 2nd book is coming soon. Do yourself a favor and read this book! Bravo Charity B for writing about such a devastating issue with such compassion. I highly recommend this story.

This was a surprisingly dark and gritty story, with bursts of shiny happiness. It's hard to describe without experiencing it, the thrill ride this book is. I have to be honest, I almost didn't read it, because I have serious issues with drug use, I've had people close to me struggle with addiction. This book contains alot of triggers, so make sure you read the warning first!
It was really hard to read at times, but it was written so well. This book will definitely give you a look at the highs and lows of addiction. Not that Tavin is your average addict!
I had a hard time putting this book down, I needed answers...and while I did get some, I was still left wanting more at the end of the book. I need the second book, that's for sure! This was written amazingly well for a first book, it's definitely worth a read, if you can handle the subject matter!

This book was not what I expected. I went into it blind looking at the cover and hearing that it was a bit of a dark read. This book was absolutely amazing! I couldn’t put it down! The characters are fabulous and the dual point of view perfect. I loved how I kinda knew what was going on but wasn’t positive. This book is written brilliantly and will be in my top 10 reads for 2018!! The fact that this is a debut for this author is incredible! A must read!

★3 Stars★

This is the debut book by the author...I didn't read anything like this before, and it was a very interesting read. Although the book has a pretty good warning, I still read it. I thought I could do it, but I was wrong...it broke my limits.

Imagini pentru not my thing gif

The story starts with Alexander, a sexy billionaire, hot bachelor, a womanizer who doesn't pay a second glance at any woman. Although he lives a life that most men dream of, he has a hurting past and his relationship with his twin sister is broken beyond repair, he is lonely and bored. His sister was a drug addict and Alex always tried to help her, until one day when he couldn't do it anymore. One day at the office, a girl knocks at his door and this girl turns his world upside down.

Taylor Kinney

Tavin is the sweetest thing, pure and innocent, but she is far from it. She is so damaged and hurt, beyond fixing and beyond repair, she's a drug addict. Maybe with Tavin in the picture, Alexander's relationship with his twin sister Sasha may be renewed.

I had a really hard time reading this book because of the drug addiction subject. I don't know any drug addict or former drug addict...But I know the drugs ruin many lives...people who consume them and their family...My problem with the book is not just the drug addiction, it's also that I didn't feel the connection between the main characters, Alexander and Tavin. It all happened way too fast, too insta, all of a sudden. There were things that didn’t match for me.

Imagini pentru not my thing gif

The book ends with a cliffhanger but the book 2 will be out pretty soon. As sweet the title sounds and the cover look, the darker the story of the book it is...I love a twisted dark story and this book was a unique emotional ride, it's everything you want in a book: sweet, funny, sad, mind fuck, dark, with twists and turns, makes you happy and in the same time angry and sad. It's a roller coaster of your feelings...

But for me, it was too much...

It isn't often than a first-time author writes something that affects me as much as Charity B. did. I went on an emotional binge reading this book, and I'm still waiting for all those feelings to calm down. It's more than just a book hangover. I can't even describe how I felt when I was finished reading this book.

One day at work, Alexander opens the door to see a tiny woman licking a lollipop. She looks at him and realizes she's in the right place. He looks at her and realizes that there is something about this woman that has dragged him in. When Alexander finally gets to ask Tavin out on a date, he discovers that whatever he felt when he first saw her hasn't faded at all. In fact, he's more entranced by her than ever. When he wakes up and she's gone, Alex can't get Tavin out of his head, and he has to find her. The question becomes can Alex and Tavin survive what happens when he does find her?

OMG. I mean, really. The set up doesn't make it sounds as intense as it is, and I can't do justice to the intensity, but every word is written to pull you in and wrap you up in this intense story and the byplay between Tavin and Alexander. The secrets that each of them hold and how they have affected each of them in the past and turned them into the person they are now is just... This book is dark and twisted. Forget sending me on a roller coaster, it took me on a tilt-a-whirl ride that spun wildly out of control and there was nothing I could do to slow it down. And frankly, I'm not sure that I wanted to control it or slow it down. I was left dizzy, and gasping, and crying for more, all at the same time.

I clearly have a different view of this book, but I didn't like it at all. I could not for the life of me buy into the relationship between Alexander and Tavin.

Alexander is clearly a playboy and he seems to sleep with every female he sees. But yet he sees Tavin's eyes and she's all he can think about. They go on one day and he turns into this guy who can't function because he just can't get her out of his head.

Tavin I didn't buy into her at all. She's a drug addict and thinks horrible about herself. Or does she? Because the way she is written in this story is all over the place I felt. We literally know nothing about her except she loves to have sex and can only orgasm if she has pain. We get a lot of inner dialogue that's really the same thing over and over and over and over etc...

There also seems to be a lot of filler in this book. It's really just sex between two people that really should stay far away from each other. It's the classic he's trying to fix her, but she really doesn't want to be fixed. And now this smart, successful business person is a complete idiot and chasing his tail for this girl that does nothing but lie.

I'm going to bow out of this series now. I have no desire to read anything else about these two.

This is a very impressive debut novel from Charity B. The cover is deceptive as this book is as far from saccharine sweet and fluffy as can be! The main character of Tavin is complex, quirky and a somewhat anti-hero. She has major issues which readers could find uncomfortable and challenging. A deep mystery surrounds her life and the author keeps the suspense going right until the cliffhanger ending. Alexander is somewhat out of his depth trying to cope with the chaos Tavin brings into his life, but he is also deeply and hopelessly addicted to her. The peripheral characters are also interesting, Sasha, Toben and the darkness that is Logan. I can’t wait to read the sequel. It’s extremely dark with loads of potential triggers so reader be aware but if you like a read on the wild side, then I highly recommend this book. This line to me beautifully sums up this book without being a spoiler, ‘she’s darkness hidden behind a rainbow, secrets and sex, chaos in a candy coating’.

Emotional....

READ TRIGGER WARNINGS....

This Trilogy absolutely broke me. The Cover absolutely fooled me, I was expecting a loving, sweet, funny read. This was absolutely anything but that. I felt so much for these characters. I just wanted to wrap Tavin and Tobin in a hug and never let them go. I was hoping at the end of this trilogy that they would both find peace and happiness. It did not happen. I have mixed feelings about Tobin, I kind of understand what was going through his mind, but at the same time he made those choices. Tavin is so strong and kind giving the circumstances that she was in. She had been through so much. I'm so happy she found Alexander and she was able to form a support system. Logan...I have never wished that a character had been real as much as I have with this. The hate and Anger I felt...I cried so much through this..

This trilogy was TRAGICALLY BEAUTIFUL... If you decide to read please beware of TRIGGER WARNINGS and have tissues ready, you are going to need them
