Five monuments...five guys...five kisses...for the win.
Senior legislative assistant Katherine O’Malley has her career, but she wants it all. She’s been hoping to find her dream man—her forever love. However, her personal rules about sex and relationships keep getting in the way of finding true love--men lose interest when you call game at third base.
When she meets a super-hot scientist who literally tangos his way into her life, everything she thought she knew about love and relationships is flipped upside down. She thinks he'll just be another kiss to help her score in the Monument Bingo game women in her office are playing. But he completely messes up her game plan.
Is she ready to change her own rules she has lived by for fifteen years? Is love worth the risk?
Overall I enjoyed it. I did have times where I wanted to punch Kat in the face. She was insane about the no kids rule. She really wasn't up for compromising. She also almost blew it with a great guy because of it. I get her reason why but it was still frustrating. Thankfully we got a happy ending. Otherwise, I would have given this a lower rating.
I voluntary read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own..*Hidden Gems... Yeah, I was not crazy about this book, I read the first one, and so even though I wasn't crazy about, I didn't hate it, so I decided I wanted to know what happens next, but this book was happening about the same time as the other book, well the time frame coincided. I was not happy with the ending, and my interest was really in knowing what happened with Chloe and Harrison, and they were mentioned briefly, I really wasn't crazy about this character..so anyhoo, I am not recommending..
Well this book was a swing and a miss for me. I did not find this book amusing, and found the h Katherine unpleasant, selfish and uncompromising. I'm OK with her not wanting children. However, going into a potential relationship saying "you need a vasectomy to date me", well just tells me she expects him to commit to her fully and doesn't want him to leave if he decided he wants children and has the facilities to do so. It's a difficult decision for a married couple with children to decide to make that permanent choice, let alone someone who isn't in a committed relationship. If she had actually felt that strongly about not having children she has reproductive options she can take herself. I ended up skimming through most of the book and the ending made me think, "Katherine get some counseling", "Gerald, you can do better" and "this is a a HFN, rushed ending". I appreciate that JC tackled a tricky subject that is a make or break relationship topic, but I think it was poorly done and an uninteresting book. *I received an ARC of this book from Hidden Gems and this is my voluntary and honest review.
What I liked most about this book was that dealt with issues that people actually deal with in life but are rarely ever discussed and are even more rarely resolved without therapy. The female protagonist was really in need of therapy, IMHO. I simply did not care for her. Not because she had issues but because I found her to be very self-centered and just short of willfully ignorant. I imagine it is going to take a lot of willing suspension of disbelief for some readers. However, I think that if readers give this book a chance, they will find it interesting. The plot is unusual, the writing well done and the intimate scenes are steamy. The growth of the characters and the HEA were satisfying. I would recommend this book. This voluntary review is based upon an ARC of the e-book.
It's nice to read a romance book where the setting is in your home city. DC is really big on politics, of course, so the hussle and bussle of the fast paced city life is relatable. I thought Kat and her family are a bit on the odd side. She definitely has some issues as a result. I'm a fan of Gerard. He's smart, reasonable, and a nice guy. I didn't care for the ending though. I thought it was really rushed and didn't give the best closure between Kat and Gerard. Overall, it's an ok read. Note: I voluntarily read an Advanced Review Copy of this book.
I listened to this book on Audible. Something about the narrator's voice completely rubbed me the wrong way...
As much as I really liked Gerard, Kat was a pain. Demanding and uncompromising were qualities that probably served her well in her career, but almost tore apart her relationship before it started. I liked their story. I just wish I liked HER more.
Very entertaining, captivating, and interesting read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong characters. I want to read more from this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The premise of the book in the beginning is pretty silly, but I liked the camaraderie of the sorority sisters getting together in NYC to go clubbing and have fun going out. They stay at a huge penthouse belonging to Vanessa, an heiress. It's on one of these get together weekends, that Katherine💋, senior assistant to Congressman Pierce, In DC, and the oddest of the women, meets Jerry🐺🍆🌋, a tall, dark, handsome, scientist out with his younger brother and another friend. When they look in each other's eyes and shake hands, it's love💕 at first sight, but Kat💋 doesn't want to admit it. She's a very cynical and self centered woman, almost thirty , and the eldest of ten children. After an exhaustive non childhood caring for her younger siblings, She vows to NEVER have children. In fact, She has narrowed down her online dating pool to only men with vasectomies!🍆🌋🚫 Jerry🐺🍆🌋 even asks her point blank, if she believes in 💘love at first sight, because he does and he is smitten. Off the group goes to a salsa club to do some truly sexy 💃dancing. Jerry🐺🍆🌋 had lessons as a child! What a sexy🔥 guy! Her second group date with Jerry🐺🍆🌋 is more dancing and he wants her to come to his hotel, but one of the other girls gets a roofie💊 in her drink, and they have to take her back to the penthouse. Jerry🐺🍆🌋 gets Kats number and wants to see her again. He also tells her he might be moving to DC! PERFECT!
I liked this book, I liked this story, I liked most of the characters, except Katherine, the main character! She seemed like a cold 🐟, distant, extremely shallow person, someone totally motivated by her own selfish reasons and wanting everything to be about her, all the time.
