Mabel is a 46-year-old spinster living in Alexandria Virginia. Her best friend Priscilla Barns just moved to Texas as a mail-order bride. That isn't for Mabel. She figures she is too old and no man would want her or even write to her. A chance meeting with a deaf-mute girl named Sandra O'Malley sets things in motion that Mabel could never think possible. Will she accept things or stay in Virginia and be lonely? Henry Parker is the postmaster in Grand Prairie Texas. He has never been married or even had a girlfriend. His childhood friend Carl Barns has just gotten a mail order bride and she is so sweet. He decides that he wants that now too since Carl and both his sons has had such good luck with getting beautiful sweet women. Carl's bride Priscilla tells him about her friend in Virginia so Henry writes her. Can he win her heart even with his quirky ways or should he forget it and put the ad in the paper?
I loved this new book by Chey Wells. It has humor as well as tender moments. This is a must-read for anyone who loves clean mail order brides books. Some parts had me laughing so hard I had tears running down my face and at other times I felt so much love coming through the pages I almost wished I was Mable. Read this book if you want a feel-good read with a surprise ending.
