Hellraiser

Rate this book
"Romantic comedy at its best! Hellraiser is hilarious, heart-warming, and downright sizzling. If only reality was this much fun...and hot!"

After a painful divorce that left him a bitter workaholic, Dr. Zach Taylor wants to get as far away from his ex-wife and Los Angeles as possible. He needs a slower pace than the ER he's worked at for several years and thinks his best friend, Tom, has gotten him a position with a geriatric practice in Baltimore.

When Zach arrives he discovers that the elderly male doctor he was expecting to find turns out to be a kooky lady pediatrician who loves old TV shows, corny jokes, and wins over her young patients by wearing crazy costumes. At first Zach is fuming mad, knowing Tom is playing matchmaker and has set him up, but figures the shock treatment will do him some good. Although he's sworn off women until his heart heals, he can't deny that Dr. Sam Winslow makes his mouth water.

Sam is eager to meet her new partner since she can really use the help, but when Dr. Zach Taylor arrives with a scowl on his face and an aversion to children, she's ready to send him packing, though knows she could never do it. A perpetual nurturer, she can't help but add Zach's wounded soul to her list of urgent cases. Besides, she has to admit that the man is gorgeous and has her libido turning somersaults.

It isn't long before Zach is falling under Sam's spell and giving into his lust. Soon he finds that maybe love can be different for him this time around.

Everything Kelly writes about stems from personal experience. Her nonfiction books are based on decades as a professional psychic counselor and various health challenges. What about her romances? Yes! They contain scenes and characters she's known, witnessed or fantasized about, and places she's been.

Kelly was born and raised in Southern California. After 32 years on the west coast, she moved to the east coast and absolutely loved the changing seasons. However, she soon found herself in the Arizona desert for eight years. While the sunrises and sunsets could never be surpassed, she felt she left her soul behind and is once again, blissfully, living in Maryland. She has five grown daughters, various pets and grand-pets, sons-in-law, and one special guy who's become her muse.

I decided to download this story because it was free and I'm not quite so sold on the Erotica genre that I'm ready to spend more than a couple bucks on one of these.

First of all, I'm not sure if it was just my kindle or what, but the first few pages had appropriate paragraph indentations then all of the sudden they were gone. Everything was flush to the left side and it made it difficult to tell sometimes where one thought ended and another began. There were also a few mix ups between his/hers he/she, etc. While I don't mind some errors in a story these are actually pretty big mistakes to me. When you're reading a story that is entirely about one guy and one girl then it's kind of important to use the correct word.

I agree with some of the other reviewers that say they weren't sure where the comedy was in the story. The only part I can think of would be the whole deal with the peanut butter, which is kind of lame. I also don't understand the point of the title. These characters were anything but hellraisers and to be honest I found the whole thing to be pretty vanilla.

I also didn't feel a strong connection to either character and I felt like it was a pretty big jump to go from "I can't get into a relationship because I've got crap to get over" to "I need to extend my lease to 50 years". I'm so sure you've learned enough about each other, through only a few (not so steamy) sexual encounters, to be able to make a decision on whether to be together *eyes rolling*. Not even the sex was that great to make me feel like I could get over the lack of a plot or storyline.

Overall this story was OK but if you're looking for something that's a little more fun with a better plot try reading Teasing Trent. Much funnier and more erotic.

Description: When bitter and cynical recent divorcé, Dr. Zach Taylor, agrees to buy into a practice in Baltimore sight unseen, he’s expecting an elderly white partner, tending to adult patients. But what he finds is Dr. Sam Winslow, a kooky-but-really-sexy black woman, who dresses up in costumes to tend to her pediatric patients. Can opposites this extreme attract? Oh yes, they can!

The Good: Well, Sam is a total pip and very hard not to adore. I also really liked that the hero was serious and anxious. You could really see why he needed someone like Sam in his life and vice versa. Also, at one point the word “fandamntastic” gets used to describe the sex, and that one’s pretty awesome as far as made-up words go.

The Bad: The resolution felt a bit abrupt and unearned. And this line: “Her face grew pink [with embarrassment] and Zach thought she was going to slug him.” Since the heroine isn’t described as particularly light, and the cover model is pretty brown-skinned, I didn’t understand how this could happen. When authors write heroines outside their own skin color it’s important to remember the physiological differences, as well.

The Naughty: Steamy heat level.

Editing issues: Several typos (11 counted). Weirdly formatted (no paragraph indents). Bob Seger’s (the musician) name is misspelled more than once.

Publisher: Sinful Romance (indie author)

Length: Novella

Final Grade: B

I got this as a free kindle book, so I usually don't expect much. I was pleasantly surprised by this book. First off, a disclaimer if you must, I do not judge based on formatting, grammatical, or spelling error unless it is really bad and interferes with the reading of the book. I see a lot of other bad reviews because of these issues, which do exist, but I really didn't find it to be a big deal. Also I didn't think the title fits the story, but I did gather from the reading how the author chose the name.
I based my rating on the story itself. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was cute and funny. I also really did enjoy the sex scenes. Again something I see in other reviews is that this story was not "erotic" enough to earn the title erotic romance. I thought it was plenty erotic, and I thought the scenes were particularly well written. (just a personal opinion and a bit of a side note, but I think it is perfectly possible, as shown here, to write good erotic romance with only two individuals and without what is generally considered kink)
overall it was just a cute, entertaining, quick read. I would be interested in reading more of Kelly Wallace in the future.

This may be the shortest review that I have ever written! I read this in about an hour and that included a couple of interruptions so it is WAY too short to be priced at $3.99, but I luckily picked it up when it was a freebie and thank goodness I did. The book is basically the description with the addition of a few sex scenes. This is definitely not worth paying for, but if you see it as a freebie again and want to kill an hour, by all means pick this one up. As long as you keep your expectations low you may enjoy it. That's all folks!

A very entertaining story about two doctors who not only are a surprise to their patients but to each other. One is a laid-back woman who loves her patients, her community, and living as she does. The other is an up-tight ER physician who is now thrown into a family practice with his smart suits, his regulated ways, and a lifestyle that is as far from this small town practice as anyone could imagine. their story is hilarious at times, deeply sensual at others, and one that will keep the reader interested from start to finish. A really terrific read.

So erotic

It's short sexy sweet and very hot...the chemistry was off the charts. Two completely opposite personalities....one very uptight...the other very quirky and bohemian....mix the two together and wham....lots of hot sexual tension that just had to be satisfied before one of them went nuts...

Not a bad story line, I didn't think it was funny or erotic as stated in a few reviews I've read. Definitely descriptive though. The book has a lot of errors it can offer you... Lots of them...

*Note* it's not "I could care less" it's "I couldn't care less"

Nice. The guy was hot, the girl was pefect. Yet another short, but nice little romp. This one I liked enough that it stayed stuck in my memory.

What I didn't like; it needed a good edit. There were many errors, but for that I would have given it another star.

Hellraiser is a humour-packed book with lots of steamy sex scenes & enough sexual tension to make you wanna bang the characters heads together!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this & would recommend it to readers of romance, erotica etc.

I wasn't expecting as much as I got with this story that I couldn't read fast enough. Wallace has a way with characterization that makes you want to know these people. I'm not usually a fan of eroticism, but in this case it fit in with the story.

The story was ok. Some word errors and wrong word usage -
etc. she instead of he, bead instead of bed. Didn't care for the ending.
I am glad it was a free read.
