I thought this book would be just another chick-lit book. Surprisely, it´s more than that. The plot is very similar to that of the Book of Esther from the Bible.
The US has separated. There is the United States of America with its capital in DC and there is the Allied States of America. The two countries are split, more or less, on current red and blue states. The Allied States is mostly southern and conservative. The USA has a liberal president, Jackson Cashe. He is single and has just split up with his girlfriend Vanessa (think Vashti from the Bible). His staff wants to hold a reality TV contest similar to Tv´s The Bachelor. Grudgingly, he goes along with the plan.
Haddie Robinson is from South Carolina (an Allied state) but has been living in DC with her uncle who happens to be the White House chef and with her cousin. She is a college student and former ballet dancer. Her cousin submits her application the the Future Flotus TV reality show without Haddie´s permission. Haddie is selected as one of the contestants and she grudgingly goes to the filming. She despises President Cashe and what he stands for. Can you guess who won the TV show?
President Cashe´s Chief of Staff is Hayman Barnes (think Haman from the Bible) and he is an atheist. He also dislikes the White House Chef and wants to fire him. He gets the President to sign an Executive Order that all sermons must be approved by the government. It´s now Haddie´s task as a Christian to get President Cashe to reverse his decision on the Executive Order.
Just like the Book of Esther except in this story it´s the Christians who are persecuted.
Amy has done a great job of bringing an old tale into modern day America. It was very entertaining-I couldn’t put it down. Now...when is the next one coming out?
Great read! Great story line with some history interwoven into the story. Loved the story and the characters. Held your attention and made your fall in love with story and setting.
This book is a sweet, wholesome romance based on the biblical book of Esther with all the thrilling politics of the original. I’m so in love with the characters and world building in this book! You won’t regret reading it.
Overall, the book is fun and cute. It's a great story with faith. It is a modern Esther-ish story. It just needs some editing. It's in present tense, which is very hard to do well. It's very clean.
