A SOFT KISS IN WINTER - Silver Falls Series, Book One
Historical Western Romance - each book can be read as a stand-alone novel.

Running away from home to marry the man she thought was the love of her life should have been the happy ending Victoria Stanford expected it to be, but things rarely work out as one plans. When her husband suddenly dies and leaves her stranded in the middle of nowhere, alone and scared, she thinks she’s saved when she sees three men headed her way. Relief turns to fear when she realizes they weren’t the type of men a single woman should trust. When they chase up the side of a mountain and overtake her, she does the only thing she can. She screams and hopes they kill her quickly.

Gideon Hart has spent the last six years roaming the mountain after tragedy changed his life forever. Since then, he’s never encountered another living soul other than his brother—until now. The scream he hears echoing through the trees brings back memories he’s been trying to forget. When he finds a woman being attacked, he does what he has to in order to ensure her safety. Getting her to town should be his only concern but the trek across the mountain with Victoria causes his world to shift and for feelings he’s denied himself for too long to surface. He doesn’t deserve to be loved. With a past like his, no one would love him once they found out what he’d done. Getting Victoria to Silver Falls is the only way to save them both but as the nights grow longer and winter settles in over the mountain, one soft kiss may change both their lives.

I don't know what I was expecting but I didn't anticipate that I would love this book as much as I did. Yes, I'm still obsessed with Arthur Morgan and this mmc really gave the vibes Arthur had throughout Rdr2 so I'm pleased to say this was a hit🧚🏻

This was my first book by Lily Graison but it sure as hell won't be my last🫶🏻

The romance was beautiful and very well done. Their relationship was a bit rocky in the second half of the book because of his past but, obviously, they overcame it in the end. And the storyline, weirdly enough for this kind of tale, kept you on the edge of your seat at times.

The winter vibes were immaculate and the western feel was not as overbearing in the writing to take this as a historical romance. The writing felt more modern which I appreciated since I'm new to this kind of genre.

Ok ok now for the summary💅🏻
~~>
In the winter of 1884, we have our Chicago girl who gets lost in the mountains of Montana after the sudden death of her husband while they were traveling.
She gets attacked by three men, and a fourth(our main guy) hears her screams and rushed to help. After he rescues her, his first thoughts are nothing but "I'll take her to the nearest town so she can contact her parents and leave". Yeahhhh sure🤭

Obviously the nearest town(Silver Falls) is still far away and it's the dead of winter so they have to stop numerous times(moments for which I lived for, they were so cute😭).

After cruel days in the snow, they finally reach his cabin in the woods where he spends his time all year round because of something that happened to him in the past(he's trying to isolate himself from the world so he just lives in this cabin in the middle of nowhere and only goes down the mountain in town once a year so yes we have a tragic hero).

But the forced proximity, the trust that builds between them and the circumstances that they find themselves stuck in time and time again(sometimes anxiety inducing tbh lol) make the pair get closer and closer to each other with each drifting snowflake.

It has a bit of spice in the middle of the book so if that's not your cut of tea I warned you(but u can easily skim past it).

🏹forced proximity
🏹taking care of wounds
🏹protective and broody mmc
🏹small town feels
🏹Noah Kahan vibes
🏹winter cabin in the mountains
🏹late 19 century(1884)

Things that may bother some people:
-bit of an age gap
-smut level 🔥🔥
-ghastly wounds being described
-anxiety may spike in some scenes

TW:
-alluding to SA as well as almost it happening(not descriptive)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm playing Red Dead Redemption 2 and now I'm kind of in a rabbit hole where I'm in love with Arthur Morgan and try to find books where the setting is similar to Rdr2 and the male main protagonist reads as much as Arthur as possible. Kind of like if Mary and Arthur actually happened. Iykyk. It's a problem🥲.
So to fix that problem I'm gonna go down another rabbit hole and read western outlaws romances set before 1899 until I break🫶🏻
This is my first western romance book ever so wish me a yeehaw🧚🏻
Wounded souls bound to be together. A moment in time that changes the outcome of two lives. What a heartwarming and sometimes teary story that tugs at the heart. Victoria Stanford thought life would be wonderful when she married the man she loved. But as fate takes a hand her husband dies and leaves her stranded in the mountains of Montana. Looking for help she is accosted by men who try to harm her and screams for help. Her cry is heard by Gideon Hart, a man alone inside and out who has stayed away from the world for many years. As these two people are brought together, this story will pull you in and not let you go until the last page. Prepare to be entranced and waiting for the next story in this series to be published.
The storyline may be fine eventually (sometimes boring and repetitive), but grammar is shamefully poor!!! You'll find you're father instead of your father, she's been beat instead of she's been beaten, and many many other unforgivable mistakes (too many!)
Great start to a new series
I have read all of this author's books in the Willow Creek series and all of them were terrific.
But I believe this book tops all of them.
Gideon saves a woman in the middle of nowhere, stranded in wagon in the winter. A woman who had no experience in wilderness survival.
He hears her screams and saves her. The longer he is with Victoria, the more he desires her.
But will she still want to be with him if she knew of his shameful
past? And can she love him enough to abandon her life as the daughter of one of Chicago' s richest men?
Warning! This is not a clean romance novel.
Maybe 3.5
I enjoyed most of this book. I think I just wish there wasn't a miscommunication conflict during the 3rd act.
Victoria is one tough heroine. She gets put through the emotional ringer and still has love in her heart. She is young (19) and learns that not everything is as it seems. She does learn to trust Gideon and during their long, cold trek to his cabin and then to town, she falls in love with him. Gideon is the kind of hero that doesn't believe he deserves love. Though I did like Gideon as a hero for most of the book, there was a point at which I wanted to shake him.
It had a very sweet ending.
Since the start of the novel, the plot, characters and scenery called my attention.
I simply couldn't stop reading, finished it in a day and Lord have mercy, what a day it was.
Victoria and Gideon's journey was such a beautiful and overwhelming experience.
I've read many books, but this one was pure love, passion and acceptance through it all.
I cried a lot of times while doing so.
So much happened and yet my heart was on the verge of collapsing with every word, action and thought.
The only advice I would give if you decide to embrace this book is to keep in mind it mentions topics such as SA and violence. Also, there are times when the narrative of the book feels repetitive, but over all its good.
Im going to read more from Lily Graison for sure. I loved it.
there really is happily ever after
Rescues, healing hearts, excitement and happily ever after all combined to make this book well worth reading. I loved this story and recommend it for those over 18 due to certain brief scenes.
Gideon and Victoria
This book was intense, but I enjoyed it. Victoria and Gideon were such a good couple and Ewan is a trip. I’m looking forward to Graham’s story as well. It was also fun to see Aaron’s moment in Silver Falls from a different viewpoint. All and all. Good story with characters you care about.
After reading Linda Howard’s Touch of Fire, I have another stuck-in-a-cabin-romance sort of itch that needs to be scratched so this book has been recommended to me by a person on Reddit. Needless to say, I love every bit of this story! Couldn’t put it down at all, finished it in 3 hours straight! This story also has the grumpy/sunshine trope which is exactly how it’s supposed to be done!
Love the slowburn romance between Gideon and Victoria, especially when they take turns taking care of each other every time one of them comes in harm. The tension between them is strung tight like violin strings, the steamy scenes ooofff! The sensual energy is palpable, you need butter knife to slice through the tension. Instant 5-stars for me!🥰
The libidos of two injured people defied reality. Within a few hours of a life threatening injury, the hero was only feeling turned on by the heroine. Give me a break. Add to that a weak semi hysterical flower suddenly becomes She-ra pulling the hero to safety while carrying two packs. Incredible. This caused me to abandon the book. Finally went back to read the ending thinking I might give this a chance. No spoilers but the end did not compensate.
First book I've read by the writer & I'm eager for more! The plot is exciting & has action enough to keep you reading. The H & h do go back & forth in their pursuit of each other's affections. The minor characters are interesting. The dastardly villains are hateful. There are a few steamy scenes appropriate to the plot. Well written.
DNF at 94%. The revelation of this loser hero’s big secret was the nail in the coffin. I don’t care that I only had 6% remaining to read, but I refuse to let this idiotic couple have a HEA in my headspace.
😒 Gideon - gruffy mountain man/trapper, escaped to the mountains to get away from the heartache and memories of an awful accident that he blames himself for. An accident that left his sister Nora dead.
🥴 Victoria - city girl left with her new, not-so-nice husband to venture west in a covered wagon. He ups and dies, leaving her widowed and alone in the wilderness.
While checking his traps, Gideon hears her screams and rescues her before 3 drifters could rape her. But now Gideon was stuck with the responsibility of her well-being because he couldn’t just leave her there alone to starve or freeze to death. So off they went to find his cabin that was a few days worth of walking away. And he was NOT happy to have her intrude on his hermit-like lifestyle. I loved his grumpiness in the beginning.
What follows is their long journey to his cabin, cuddling to keep warm while sleeping in the snow, him getting attacked by a mountain lion, her nursing him back to health, sharing one bed… all romantic moments. Well except their first kiss was as he woke up from a 3-day coma fever, and she hadn’t bathed in 3 months, but whatever 🤢. The romance and sensual, steamy scenes were set to get 4-stars from me. Their personalities and interactions were interesting to read.
But after the 70% mark, they seemed to have a competition going on with who could do the silliest thing before the other. I would call the winner as Victoria. Too many unwise choices she made one after the other. Looking back to the beginning, she definitely wasn’t a bright girl all-around.
The things that didn’t work for me:
🤠- I see that this author has a pattern. She has villains that almost rape the heroines in the beginnings and for some weak reason they always get away, and then they never fail to reappear later to cause a 3rd act drama. Why? These two bad guys got away TWICE for no explainable reason other than to be able to pop up later in the story. It wasn’t entertaining, it was leaning towards unrealistic and a joke.
🤠- why did the bad guys keep Gideon alive for the whole week instead of killing him and just be done with him? Made no sense.
🤠- lots of repetitious inner dialogues, her constantly wondering on the status of their relationship, him CONSTANTLY telling her that he can’t tell her his secret because she would think differently of him afterwards. And I was thinking, ‘Oh come on! Stop with the self loathing! How bad could it be, it was just an accident!’ But…. It was bad.
Here is his big secret that made him irredeemable in my eyes. SPOILERS:
I’m so irritated, I probably won’t read this author again for a while. This author does a wonderful job with romance and sensual love scenes though, just ridiculous villains and end-story drama.
This was a sweet historical romance that had the forced proximity and caretaking tropes - which I love. While checking on his traps on a snowy mountain, Gideon Hart stumbles upon Victoria Stanford being attacked by three unsavory men. Gideon kills one and the other two run away. Being that Victoria is stranded with a broken wagon and has been beaten pretty badly, he decides to take her back to his cabin before taking her to the closet town. Although he does not like being around other people, he knows that she will die in the snow. Gideon is extremely gruff and mostly grunts to her. She is quiet and does not want to bother him with her presence. However, she feels indebted to him for coming upon those ruffians before they had the chance to rape and kill her.
On the way to the cabin, Gideon is attacked by a mountain lion and nearly dies. Victoria has to drag this big injured guy to his cabin and tend to his wounds. Because of the attack, it is necessary that she stay longer than Gideon had attended. It is a slow build to romance as she is a widow who has been hurt by her husband and he has a traumatic event in the past that he is punishing himself for. They are both wounded in spirit but find solace in the company of each other.
I liked how the naturally the romance developed between the two of them. However, I did not like Gideon's constant self-flagellation, though I could understand his feelings. I liked how interested he was in Victoria even though he was scared of getting his heart broken when she learned the truth about him. Their attraction to each other and them being in such forced proximity, sweetened the eventual romance. This was a new author and I would read another book by her.
A SOFT KISS IN WINTER: Historical Western Small Town Romance. Standalone novel that drew my attention when it was a mountain man who rescues a damsel in distress story. There is a cabin on a mountain in the middle of nowhere, too! It was a book that I had to keep reading, in order to find out what happens. Once I'd read the book to the end, there was a few chapters from the next book, and now I'm into reading the next book, A SOFT KISS IN SPRING.
Victoria Stanford hadn't a clue what a rough life she would face when this Chicago city girl had run away from home to marry a man her parents hadn't approved of at all. Her father had a much older man with money, that he'd picked for her to marry. Thomas had promised her they would go on a great adventure in the Wild West but two months into their marriage he became very ill and died on her. To leave her all alone & stranded in the middle of nowhere. She was lost on a mountain trail in the wilderness of Montana. She had a wagon and an ox, but when one wheel gave out, she'd no longer had anything. She though it couldn't get any worse, when 3 rugged looking dangerous men attack her. Victoria thought they'd have their way with her, and then kill her. Only thing she could do is scream as loud as she could. As fate is on her side, mountain man Gideon Hart hears her screams. He scares-off two men and shoots the other. Their trip to the safety of his cabin was as treacherous as she had faced being lost, but this time she wasn't alone. No doubt about it, Gideon had saved her life! But their trials and tribulations were far from being done.
The storyline and the characters are pretty good! The steamy scenes are well written! I love the setting!
BUT the grammar and spelling mistakes are atrocious, and the tense changed multiple times. "Your" instead of "you're," "it's" instead of "its." I came to Goodreads to write this after the author slipped into first person for a paragraph after writing the first 50% of the book in third person.
I'm pretty sure this book is self-published and no shame on that, but a good editor would have caught these glaring mistakes. I really enjoyed the steamy scenes in this and otherwise felt the writing was fine, but the mistakes make it feel sloppy and I just can't get past them.
All this, PLUS the fact that around the 55% mark, the MMC does an about-face that just made me roll my eyes in disbelief. I'm honestly so annoyed with this book. DNF
This was a bit of a random pick up and read for me. It was a book I had picked up as part of stuff your kindle day and I wanted something quick to read on my new kindle. I saw the winter cover and was like okay let’s do it. It was a fun read and I enjoyed the historical piece. I wasn’t expecting it going in but was pleasantly surprised by it. The story was fast paced however due to that, and it being told in third person, I wasn’t able to fully connect to the characters.
Characteristic Grayson
Having read Willow Creek, Silver Falls has all the same enjoyment & endearing characters Grayson has created. Only complaint is the grammatical errors. Many times a preposition was missing, the tense switched, and one paragraph was written in first POV instead of third. These really distracted from the plot. A good editorial cleanup would change this to a 4 star review (withholding the 5 because some of Willow Creek is better).
This book started out exciting and captured you right away. The setting is in beautiful, rugged Montana during the rough winter time on the side of a mountain..... Then it started to become too explicit and ruined it for me - I quit reading it. That is unfortunate because it could have been a good read otherwise.
I did give it a 3 star only because I enjoyed the setting in Montana. It could have been so good if it was kept “cleaner” it’s to bad.
Trapped in a cabin in a snowstorm? Yes please! Tortured, loner, hero, who isolates as a mountain man - give me more. Disheartened heroine who ran away from a cushy life for adventure and got walloped with reality - go on. These two had to learn to trust one another, but the heat and attraction between them was there from the start. It was a jagged path they took, full of set-backs and traps, but they got there eventually, and the happiness they deserved from the ever after together <3
Victoria ran away to marry her Thomas; big mistake. She was young and seeking adventure, she made a bad choice. When Gideon Hart came into her life, she was a widow, being beaten by brutal men and needing help. I enjoyed this story and the way the author described the mountain, visualized the waterfalls and talked about life in an old cabin. Thanks for a wonderful tale.
This was a great story! My first time reading Lily Graison and I really enjoyed it! Gideon and Victoria were strikingly vivid characters as was the setting. I could see it all in my mind. Gideon was a great hero and Victoria was a strong heroine. Throw in some nice heat between them snowed in on the side of a mountain…perfection!
