Fighting murderous enemies. Battling each other. It’s the perfect recipe for romance, Kalquorian-style.
On the surface, young Dramok Ospar has it all: money, prestige, power. Yet what he dreams of most is outside his grasp. His drive to prove himself has left him lonely, with no one to turn to…except the Nobek bodyguard who is decidedly unimpressed with his accomplishments. Oh, and there’s the matter of the local crime syndicate trying to kill him too.
Nobek Jol faces his worst security assignment ever: guarding the most irritating Dramok to draw breath. It’s not that Ospar isn’t handsome, intelligent, brave, and charitable. It’s just that he’d be so much better gagged into silence.
Temple of Life priest Imdiko Rivek wishes for inner peace and total enlightenment. He knows he won’t find it in the lethal world Ospar and Jol inhabit. However, fighting the allure of the pair to achieve perfect tranquility is proving to be more difficult than he could have imagined…plus the fact that their enemies think he’s the perfect target to bring Ospar and Jol to heel.
Born in a small town on the coast of North Carolina to strict parents, Tracy St. John started out as a quiet, shy child. She was typical for her small town: studying hard for good grades, fishing with her dad on Saturdays and attending church on Sundays.
When adolescence kicked in, so did full-on rebellion. School, family and church fell by the wayside as Tracy partied too hard with the wrong people. Somehow surviving her wild-child phase, she pursued several careers before finally settling on video production and writing.
A string of failed relationships prompted her to give up on love…which of course meant fate immediately tossed Mr. Right her way. After only 4 months of dating, she eloped with the love of her life. They just celebrated 14 years of wedded bliss.
Prior to penning her first erotic novel ‘Alien Embrace’, Tracy wrote commercials, television and radio promos, and training films for various government entities.
Tracy St. John now lives in coastal Georgia with her husband and son. She still enjoys fishing, and you’ll often find her haunting train museums with her locomotive-loving son. Besides writing, she also works in video production both in front of and behind the camera. She’s usually cast as the gun-toting bad gal, getting handcuffed in the end. She has no complaints.
Three of my favourite Kalquorians are falling in love
Well, this has been a highly anticipated book by all the series’ fans (including me of course). Dramok Ospar, Nobek Jol and Imdiko Rivek have been around for many books now and I have the feeling that they will be around in many future books, because the fans love them.
Just a reminder: You can find these three in the following already published books
1. Clan, Honor, and Empire (Clan Beginnings, Book 3) where Ospar is Dramok Rajhir’s mentor and boss. 2. Shalia's Diary (Book 8) where Katrina has her clanning ceremony with Clan Wotref at the Temple of Life, Haven Colony. 3. Alien Refuge (Clans of Kalquor Book 7), when they meet their matara Iris at Haven Colony where Ospar is the governor. 4. Alien Indiscretions (Clans of Kalquor Book 9) Where Ospar admits that he is the chief architect that sent thousand clans to claim Earther mates.
I am sure I am forgetting something, but Alien Refuge is definitely the most important book of Clan Ospar and you don’t want to miss it.
Anyway, about “Clan and Conscience” now:
Ospar and Jol meet first. Ospar is rich, arrogant, self-centered and ambitious. He is young enough to think that he knows everything, until an attempt against his life by his business opponents makes him realize that he needs a protector.
Jol used to have ambitions until an event a few years ago put his ambitions on hold and he decided to get a job as security until he decides what he wants to do in the future.
Jol will be Ospar’s bodyguard and to say the least they have an explosive relationship from the beginning (I suppose it is good that in Kalquorian society does not really matter much if you have sex with your boss). Anyway, I really enjoyed reading about their prolonged arguments:
“Fire me!” “Is that what you want? Then no. You can fucking quit!” “I refuse. You’ll have to drag me out of here yourself! Good luck with that, weak brat.”
You can imagine the end result. A clanning ceremony….where they will meet Rivek.
Rivek is a nice, kind, well-mannered priest in the temple until he meets Ospar and Jol and then his life will be a mess. The more he manages to offer relaxation and inner peace to the Dramok and the Nobek, the more these two destroy his inner peace and tranquility (at least the sex is good).
When Ospar decides to act on his political ambitions, Ospar’s enemies soon will be interested in Rivek as well. And Jol will need to protect not only Ospar but also Rivek.
I think I will stop my description here. If you have read “Alien Refuge”, you will know that these three will never be separated. HEA….et cetera, et cetera…. Have fun! ;)
This series is the precursor to the Clans of Kalquor series. The general premise of this story (and "Clan Beginnings" series overall) is to provide the reader with the back story of how individual clans formed. That being a m-m-m clan. This book/series is attached to Alien Refuge where the clan adds their female to the clan.
Overall loved the story though I appreciated the budding relationship between Dramok Ospar (lead of clan) and Nobek Jol (defender and warrior of the clan). The evolution of adding Imdiko Rivek (peacemaker and calming force of the clan) was anticlimatic.
For those who want to know. There is full on man on man action with no drippy v in sight. Of note there is also one scene that IMHO I have tagged as dub-con and I stick by that opinion.
Can't get enough of Kalquor which means I'm going to be waiting impatiently for the next in series.
I adore the first two books in this series, and have re-read those countless times. I'm not sure if it's my taste that have changed, the author's writing style, or both, but this instalment didn't work at all for me.
I love Tracy St. John's Kalqour 'verse so much. I think that it's really interesting. I like when the mataras are there, but I'm really jamming on seeing clans get together and the differences between the 3 classes of males. Fascinating.
Tracy St John and her Kalquorian's are always a one-click, day of release book for me. What could be better that hot aliens who pair in 3's for taking you away from the day-to-day ?
Clan and Conscience is the formation of Dramok Ospar's clan with Nobek Jol and Imdiko Rivek. This is a great inside look at how the three seemingly vastly different people managed to come together. It also explains the beginning of Ospar's political aspirations and how and why Priest Rivek became a master fighter.
I waited so long to see Clan Ospar’s story. I always wanted to know what the references that were made about the itga mines and why they placed so much emphasis on it. What is great is we find out also why the imdiko got into self defense when it is rare for a priest to choose that. It was fantastic the scenes between men were amazing as always.
This was a good book in the series. The start was a little slow but it picked up speed further into the book. There was politics and violence as only the Kalquors can do. Being a book without females was a little different but the romance was there - albeit men on men. Still, it was a good book and I truly enjoy the Kalquor books.
I love how Jol and Ospar bicker back and forth and that they finally allow their feelings to grow. They start to work together and I love when they meet Rivek. He is a priest and is full of surprises. I love how Rivek watches how they interact and he thinks what it would be like to be with both of them.
Never thought mmm would be something I wait impatiently for. Beautiful love stories with powerful ubersexual beastly men. This book is only one corner of an amazing universe of stories by this author.
This was a good addition to the series... I liked this clan a lot... I enjoy this series....the books I have problems with us the books with the martia's...but I can't help but to read them...Off to Alien Refuge...
Why does this book not appear on the list for Worlds of Kalquor series? Is it because no one is sure where to put it in the chronological order? How does someone make a book connected in a series, anyway?
