Honestly, this was a pretty interesting read. Personally, I think the whole "post apocalyptic" thing has been done to death, but Xavier absolutely makes it work, in a very unique way. Pairing that genre with the Robin Hood story was not something that I would have expected, and the Chicago setting made it even more interesting for me, as a Chicago resident.

It became easy for me to picture the characters, get to know them, understand their motivations, and try to follow along with them. Each time I thought I knew exactly where the story was going, Xavier had something prepared to ensure that I was wrong...and I was happy each and every time that I was wrong.

If you are someone that enjoys a new twist on an old story, an attempt to breathe new life into a played out genre, or just a fun story that genuinely makes you want to get to the end, then this is a story for you.

Dystopian stories aren’t really my thing, but Robin Hood definitely is, so what choice had I but to give this book a read? Though I would have preferred a little more ye olde Sherwood and a little less stress on grim, post-apocalyptic politics, the main characters did, on the whole, prove sympathetic enough to keep me rooting for them throughout their harrowing exploits in and around New Chicago. So while this is hardly the merriest take on the Merry Men, I’m glad the legend continues to inspire new additions to its sprawling canon.
