Oh, I really enjoyed this romantic novel.

Imagine you're a writer and temporarily move to a semi-isolated cabin to finish your next book.

Then one day a blizzard hits, your car crashes, you're rescued by a handsome stranger, and end up recovering in his cabin. Sparks fly, emotions rise, and these are the basic elements of this novel.

The story is told from the alternating points of view of the main characters. The book was entertaining, engaging and charming.

Overall, I enjoyed it and highly recommend it to readers of contemporary romance.

FINAL NOTE: the book finished at the 27% progress point. After that it includes a bonus novel from the same author. I initially thought the novel was VERY long because I wasn't aware of the extra novel included in the kindle book.

So. Not the worst book in the world but the typos got to be a little annoying.
Besides the typos this book had some other issues for me. I know books like this usually have the wham-bam thank you ma’am love story, but this was excessive for the norm. One minute she’s driving up the mountain the next he’s madly in love with her.... not enough build up or relationship growth. Basically I was my romance book to have a little semblance of reality with the unrealistic. Balance if you will. And unfortunately this book lacked the transition and time the characters deserved.
Regardless of the love story and slightly predictable plot, I did find myself laughing and feeing sympathy for both the MC’s so it was still able to hold my attention, for that and the cover I give the book a 3 star, but really it’s more move a 2-2.5.

Overall-
Love story- blah but yes
Steamy scenes- yes
Well written- slightly but poorly edited
Character development- not really
Depth- not really
Recommend- if you’re bored

This was my first read by this author and I can honestly say that I enjoyed it very much. It was a real page-turner and I had a hard time finding a place to put it down--because I truly didn't want to!

First of all, I'm a sucker for the old stuck-in-a-cabin during a blizzard trope. I have to try any book with this situation going on!:0

The heroine, 22 year-old beauty Zoe Meadows is a budding historical romance novelist. She's had some success but due to a recent rather upsetting/tragic event and dealing with a mother with the mother of all unusual careers (no spoilers), she desperately needs to get away from her California environment and people in general so she can write her next book in peace. Best friend/agent Leslie lends her the keys to her uncle's remote Montana cabin so Zoe can work in peace and try to put what happened to her in the past. But she didn't count on being stuck in a blizzard that nearly takes her life--or to be rescued by a studly, bearded recluse.

31-year-old Gray Maddox has endured his share of hardships and tragedies. The last 2 years have been particularly painful to him and now he just wants to retreat from the world. He has a mountain cabin that suits his needs just fine. He's made his fortune writing software security, and right now he's content to work from home with only his pet dog Maggie for company. Until he spots the goddess from the cabin next door...and notices her crying. Gray feels an overwhelming need to watch out for her, and luckily this need (while bordering on obsession) finds him in the right place to make a heroic rescue when Zoe's life is in danger.

Thus begins the relationship between Zoe and Gray. Both have been thru a lot in their lives, so it's easy for them to understand each other's pain. They truly connect--both emotionally and physically--almost instantly, but you can see that this connection is the best thing for them. I loved how open and honest they were with each other, just laying it all out there for the other to see. Of course Gray leaves one tiny thing out (of course there has to be something to put their relationship in doubt)...and how will Zoe react to this? Are they truly meant for each other? Or has this whole thing just been a beautiful moment in time?

I loved these characters; I marveled at how strong they were to live through such terrible events in their lives, and I wanted them to have a HEA! They were passionate, playful, and compassionate, and understanding. I loved how they helped each other heal. And their bedroom scenes were hot--I never wanted them to leave that cabin!

This book was a winner for me, and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Less than 10 days in a snowed in cabin together and the I love yous are flying around along with some casual baby talk due to a lack of condoms. Not the worst book I’ve read but things went too fast to feel real. I did love the dog and the cat. :)

Zoe and Gray have both survived tragedies in their lives which in effect has made their leery to trust people. In the middle of a blizzard Zoe finds herself rescued by this sinfully sexy mountain type man who doesn’t want her around yet sparks flew between them. Grey isn’t angry she is there, he is on fire she is there. From the moment he sees his "goddess" on the mountain he sees her beauty and is attracted to her spirit and beauty. Then from the moment he sees her in danger and at risk, he prays he can save her unlike how he was with his now deceased wife. He does save her and it is two broken souls who are riding out the brunt of the storm together while they come to realize there is this intense and deep chemistry towards one another. We get to read as they realize they feel peace and comfort in each other’s company, they feel calm and love with one another but once the storm ends, will the secrets they each have end up destroying the love that has sprung up or will the bonds already forming be enough to save their love and deepen?

This story is originally from a box set called Hot & Sinful Nights. It has been expanded and made so much better, and filled with more passion and intensity. I enjoyed more story, more Zoe and Gray. It definitely made me all happy inside.

My Rating: 4.5 stars *****

Sometimes life just puts you in the right place at the right time... even if the right place is lost in the middle of a blizzard. Both dealing with trauma and loss, Gray and Zoe find they have this incredible chemistry after he rescues her during a storm. There are so many heavy issues at play during the story, but the couple creates the solid heart that helps keep us going too. There are funny moments too during a story that can be quite emotional. Always so honest, real and beautiful I don't want to spoil a single moment of it. I'll just say that it is very highly recommended. So well written with tact and depth, we come to know and care for Zoe and Gray. Scorching heat, but the biggest heart at the same time. It's a genuinely wonderful book. This is a voluntary review of an advance reader copy.

For an INSTA LOVE this story was a good read which says something in my book. And maybe I would have liked it even more if the male lead would not have used this corny name for the female. I always felt it did not fit the story and the charcters but maybe that is just me. Anyway - I can recommend this as a short and solid read.

Zoe Meadows rents a cabin in the mountains in Montana to get away from it all. She goes to pick up some supplies since a bad storm was coming in and on the way back runs off the road and neighbor, Gray Maddox rescues her. Gray has his demons and doesn't want company but there is little he can do since he rescued his "goddess". Zoe has her own demons too and being stranded on the mountain with a stranger wasn't on her to-do list either.

I read someone's review on this book and the plot intrigued me so I got it. I ended up liking it more than I expected. I loved the characters and was really rooting for them. This is my first book by this author but I will read more.

I read and reviewed the original book, The Cabin from the Hot and Sinful Nights Collection and enjoyed it very much. This expanded version with additional scenes is just as if not more so steamier than the original. It's captivating and very emotional with a great mix of angst, tragedy, secrets, grief, heartache, fiery chemistry, some hilarious moments, passion, hot scenes and love. This is a definite must read!

I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.

"We make our own luck. Own love. Own life. Own legacy."
What good can come out of crashing into a tree during a snow blizzard which could cost you your life? In this novel a whole lot!!! Two people escape to the isolated mountains of Montana to avoid the ugliness of their past lives, to hide away from the world... but when these two collide, a hurricane of emotions and instant attraction blows them off course. They hold each other's key to their freedom... one they can only achieve together. A beautiful novel about facing your darkest monsters head on... opening yourself up and grasping the light of day instead of being buried in a dark lonely closet. 5 Self Preserving and Healing Stars for a story about not only writing a Happily-Ever-After but actually living it!

While this book touched on some interesting topics, and I laughed once or twice, it left me feeling...meh.

There is a lot of "meh" in this book. There was a lot of "meh" sex. There was "meh" chemistry. The plot was "meh", the characters were "meh", and the momentum was...well, this could have been a much shorter book.

Overall, my first experience with Alice Ward was not a good one.

Good premise

This is the first thing I've read by this author. I liked the premise of the story better than the execution of it. I find two elements unbelievable. The first is the age of the characters. I don't think a 22 year old would be an accomplished writer working on her 4th or 5th book, and his late wife would have barely had time to finish her education and open a practice before she died if she was the same age as the hero. And secondly, the heroine has a head wound and a concussion with dizziness, blurred vision, equilibrium issues and severe head pain, but they have sex, sex, and more sex, with the hero constantly wrapping his hands in her hair and pulling her head back. She can't walk straight or see clearly, she screams when the coffee grinder is used, but they have wild sex. Too unbelievable.

Gray was living in a remote cabin, hiding from his feelings, his pain, his loss. His home had been compromised once...this time he made sure it was safe from intruders by installing remote cameras all around his property. One day, two squirrels used one camera for a jungle gym and shifted the view to the side. He had every intention of changing it back but before he could, she arrived - the goddess. She’d sit on the deck and cry, her thin shoulders shaking under the weight of her sorrow. Sometimes she’d scream. He knew he shouldn't be watching her. In his own way, he was protecting her.

For Zoe Meadows, a snow storm shifted time and circumstances. She was returning to her cabin when the weather took a sudden turn for the worse and before she knew it, her truck was hanging off the side of a mountain. She was injured and unable to get out. The next thing she knew, she was being lifted to safety. She spent the next several days recovering from her injuries and being cared for by a man she had never met before. Maggie, his dog kept a watchful eye on her and slept curled at her feet. For the first time in a very long time, possibly ever, she felt safe, cared for...and she needed that feeling of safety because her life was so out of her control.

Both Zoe and Gray are successful and confident on the outside but they have secrets, things that are holding them captive. Will the storm and their confinement provide an opportunity to see life in a different way? Let's hope so, because these two individuals will capture your heart right from the very beginning of the story along with a couple of furry friends. I ran the range of emotions while reading this story, not the least was sadness but it was punctuated by a good amount of joy and some pretty hilarious moments with the animals. I'm not saying a word about them except more than once I was ROTF-LOL! By the end, my heart was full and I was smiling...bet you will be too.

I love Alice Ward! When I had an opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book, I jumped right on it and boy am I glad I did. It was a truly wonderful story and I have absolutely no problem letting other readers know this one is a keeper. Ms. Ward's efforts have given her readers another five star story...but in truth, we expect this from her and she never disappoints!

A Favorite Line from the book: "From the moment I saw the goddess at her cabin down the hill, watched her on the screen as she cried and then began to smile, I knew I was changing. I could feel the change, the need, the longing for something more in my life begin to alter me."

Hurt. Pain. Loss. Survival. Hope. Inspiration. Second Chances. Love.

Wow! I’m not sure why, but I had some crazy, pre-conceived notion that Alice Ward’s "The Cabin" would just be a light and easy read about a gruff mountain man and the woman who rescues him from a “life of loneliness.” Let’s just go ahead and throw that thought right out of the window because I was so wrong. This story is about much more than that. Both Zoe Meadows and Gray Maddox suffer from terrible events that turn their lives upside down and cause them to retreat within themselves.

Gray’s devastating loss a few years ago forces him to hole up in his cabin in the mountains. Zoe, running from her own problems, moves into the cabin distances away from Gray’s. He becomes instantly captivated by her, and it isn’t just because of her beauty. He feels connected to Zoe by the hurt and suffering that seems to mirror his own. He could “almost feel pain vibrate from her.” This “something deeper” connection is what draws Gray closer to Zoe without even having met her yet.

“Back when I was first alerted to a stranger’s arrival a month and a half ago, she didn’t smile at all. That was what intrigued me the most about her. Why I continued to watch her. Even worry about her. I needed to know that she would be all right.”

What really melts my heart is the way in which Gray thinks of Zoe as his “goddess.” Even after finally meeting her and learning her name, he still sees her that way. “He stood and lifted a hand, pushing a piece of hair back from my face. ‘Goddess,’ he murmured as his fingers moved into the long strands, his fingers gripping the back of my head.” In his eyes, his dreams, his heart, his mind—everywhere—Zoe is simply his “goddess.” *Le Sigh*

Not only did I love "The Cabin" because of the romance and happily ever after, but I came away from this story feeling inspired. Alice Ward tackles some brutally serious, emotional and painful issues in this story, but she does it beautifully. I absolutely love the different inspirational quotes.

There’s a powerful message here for so many who have kept silent (or keep) silent because they feel worthless, ashamed, and guilty for something that was beyond their control and not their fault.

Alice Ward writes: “Shame was a prison. Guilt my guard. My deep self-loathing the hook which held the key to my freedom.”

My wish is for others to have the opportunity to read this book and find some healing, or at least find the path to healing within this author’s words. I hope that many will come to understand that the only person (or people) who should be ashamed is the one (or ones) who caused the hurt.

The original of this story was a short novella contained in a box set called Hot & Sinful Nights. That collection is no longer on Amazon but this particular story was expanded and made even better.

Gray is isolating himself from his past, Zoe is running from hers. With scars like they both carry, can they overcome their individual history to make a future together?

I like how compassionate Zoe is. She's struggling so much with something that happened to her and isn't sure how to truly heal from it. She also has all kinds of drama in the form of a mother with a rather...interesting profession. The cabin she's borrowing is proving to be just the place she needs to find rest, peace, solitude. Until a blizzard arrives. Unfamiliar with how blizzards escalate in backwoods Montana she soon finds herself in precarious situation.

Gray comes to her rescue and is drawn to more than just her distress, there's something inside her that calls to him, feels so right. But he can't give in for fear of betraying his heart. Or can he? His quiet strength and goodness are balms to her soul. Her soul-deep familiarity is a balm to his. He gives in to his feelings and they find passion, compassion, and so much healing that even though their courtship is fast, they find something lasting. The game of Truth or Dare allows them to bypass the length of time it takes usual couples to get to know one another and they also jump right into the deep stuff. With those two things they find that a foundation can be built on trust and depth and discover that time will only strengthen what they already feel, what they already know.

There is an incredible amount of hotness as well as enough humor and bonding. Overall this makes the story memorable and moving. Dealing with issues of rape, murder, incredible loss, porn, tantra, and the healing power of love and compassion Alice Ward seems to, yet again, pack a ton of deep issues into a story without becoming overwhelming. Pulling the feels right out of you, this is a solid book and a joy to read for the (kind of) second time.

Read and very willingly reviewed this ARC from the author.

Zoe is a wannabe best selling author and troubled daughter, locking herself away from humanity on a snowy Montana mountain. Grey is a mastermind security coder, troubled by grief and guilt he locks himself away in his luxurious cabin with only his dog for company.
In a sudden snowstorm Zoe finds herself in a horrific car accident and by chance Grey sees this and goes, like the knight he is, to save her. Here begins The Cabin, a story of two troubled and hurt
people who wanted to be away from everyone but ended up finding 'someone'.

I first came across this book by the way of Kindle Unlimited, I saw some high ratings and positive reviews so decided to give it a go. I have a bit of a history with New Adult books so adult 'erotica' wasn't too far out of my comfort zone.

The story itself is one that may have been told a thousand times before. Take two people who have been hurt, throw them together via a crazy situation and wait for the love to spark. This story differs from most due to the ways the characters were hurt. Zoe is dealing with a disturbed mother, a porn queen intent on bringing her daughter into what she hopes to be a family business. Grey is widowed and is dealing with incredible guilt over the circumstances surrounding her death.

As with many self published works the editing and typos were present but didn't affect my reading flow. I would have enjoyed more development as the characters grew as a couple. Although there was an epilogue the ending felt a bit rushed and I was surprised it ended where it did, I wanted more!
Annoying feminist hat on here, there is a fair bit of slut shaming. Zoe is dealing with her mothers sex work by being totally repulsed by the whole trade. Whilst this is understandable given her past it can be sad to read as an outsiders POV.
Another thing that I couldn't get past was the use of the term 'goddess' as a term of endearment, has this ever happened in real life? It was all a bit too 50 shades for my liking.
The slight stalking aspect in this disturbed me too. Whilst it is addressed by the characters I can't help but feel any woman I know would have massive issues with being secretly filmed and photographs. Come on Zoe, ask for more!

Overall it's a decent adult romance book. It has saucy, swoon and sad, all the major ingredients of a romance.

This book first appeared as a novella in “Hot & Sinful Nights” and is now a full-length novel with so much more of Zoe and Gray’s story! Zoe is a romance writer who, after a particularly gruesome experience, escapes to the solitude of a mountain cabin to work on her next novel. She writes about love and passion, and the amazing connection two people can share, yet she’s never experienced that for herself. After her car goes off the road during a blizzard, Gray rescues her, tending to her injuries back in his cabin, yet he’s not without his own soul-deep wounds.

“The Cabin” may just be the most heartfelt, emotionally raw and devastatingly touching of Ms. Ward’s books, and I was thrilled to get an advance copy of this book! Zoe and Gray’s story will seduce your heart and mind and leave its searing mark on your soul. Both Zoe and Gray have tragedy and damage from their pasts, and watching them share their pain with each other, lay themselves bare, and learn to love truly, deeply and unconditionally makes for a phenomenal read! If you’re new to Ms. Ward’s writing, this is a terrific book to introduce you to her amazing talent. If you’re familiar with her work, you’ll absolutely love this one!!

It was ok. I wasn't thrilled with the story. The Cabin is a quick romance, and I mean that in every way. They were quick to have a connection, quick to have sex, quick to fall in love, quick to get married. I love insta-love romances but this one didn't draw me in. Overall it wasn't bad. I just didn't feel any emotion for Gray or Zoe. I did love Go. I think he was the best part of the whole book.

Pretty good story. I liked the couple. They were fun, but had their own personal problems. It was nice to see them grow to love each other. This author seems to have a thing with "mysterious pulls" with the main couple and you just have to go with it.

Hands down, I have to say that the FUNNIEST part was when ! I was almost in tears!

I had high hopes for “The Cabin” because it had amazing reviews on both Amazon and Goodreads. I’ve been looking to get wrapped up in a book, but found that this one was easy for me to put down (never a good sign) and do other things. I finished it, nonetheless (I’m really behind on my reading challenge for the year and can’t afford to not finish any books).

There was such potential for this to be an amazing story. There just needed to be more development. It took less than 24 hours for Zoe (someone that was recently raped and has never had consensual sex before) to not only have sex with Gray, but to also say that it didn’t matter that they had no protection because she’d be willing to have his baby. What?!

Further, Zoe writes historical romance and recognizes how readers find instalove annoying, yet the author writes it for Zoe and Gray anyway.

I found it difficult to overlook the fact that Zoe and Gray were making out within hours of them meeting (having met when Gray rescued Zoe from a car accident that nearly killed her). It felt like too much. All it would have taken for me to rate this book higher was some time for them to get to know each other.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

★★★

Zoe is an author who escaped to the mountains after a personal tragedy.
Gray is a widower who escaped to the mountains after the death of his wife and baby daughter.
I could have done without him mentioning his dead wife every few seconds. I know it must be hard to lose someone but comparing his wife to Zoe kind of put me off on their romance. That being said I did enjoy the genuine moments between the two main characters. It was a cute short romantic story, Plus who doesn't like a hot mountain man with a perfect beard. Plus the story had a dog and a cat, you can't go wrong with that!
