What are friends for? What are friends worth?

Harry:

After a success, you should treat yourself and your friends if you want. If you don’t, what’s the point of trying to succeed?

Arni:

Times are the best when the six of us are together, but I don’t long for these times when we’re not whole because, simply, there’s no point to. It’s taken me almost sixteen years but I now know what it’s like to have good friends. I consider myself lucky because I’m sure people go through life without every experiencing such a thing.

Chaice:

I used to enjoy the times with Ivy more than the times the six of us were together. Then it started to shift. I found myself wanting to spend more time with my friends rather than my girlfriend. That’s not good.

Kip:

I’ve decided that I want Thursdays to be the night of the week that the guys and I definitely hang out. I’m sure we’ll hang out most weekends but conflicting plans are most likely to occur on weekends. What I want is a night I know I can look forward to. I want a night where I know shit shooting, drinking, smoking, gaming, and anything else we want to do as a group is guaranteed.

Stephen:

After all, a friendship like ours is strong. It took time and sacrifices to build and the only thing that’ll destroy it is probably time and a lack of future sacrifices.

Dean:

A positive friendship force is one of the most beneficial traits a person can have. I believe a best friend drags you down but a good friend lifts you up.

Hacks is a crime/coming-of-age novel told in six segments. Each segment is told from the perspective of a different teenager. Kip Dangerfield, Harry Eakins, Stephen Chinbat, Arni Mills, Chaice Wilson and Dean Mantilla are the six main characters of the novel.

The story is about the development of the six boys' friendship in the senior years of high school. It explores their personalities, their relationships and the criminality that infects the group, slowly dragging in each member.

Set in Brisbane, Australia, Hacks is my third crime novel and deals with themes including death, divorce, depression, pornography, popularity/attention, romance, friendship, addiction, theft, retribution and everything concerning teenage boys.

Hacks is intended to be a rollercoaster ride, so, please, let it bash you around. I just hope it doesn't leave you or your feelings too hurt. Enjoy the story and, most of all, I hope you derive enjoyment, small or large, from the words I've written.
