This was a murder mystery with more twists and turns than a roller coaster. It really keeps you guessing to the very end. The entire time you are rooting for Abby, imagining the way you would’ve killed Jack and suspecting every single person named!! I had a hunch who it was, and I was right! Well half way right! There was a curveball in there!! This was so well written and a great read!!!!

It's a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat, turning pages late into the night, and leave you contemplating its themes long after you've read the final sentence.
This is not a cozy mystery. This book dives headfirst into the grit, the grime, and the unfiltered reality of life, pulling no punches. If you're looking for something bold, raw, and unapologetically honest, this story will take you places most books are afraid to go. Fair warning: check your triggers because this one doesn’t hold back.
From the very first page, I was hooked, teetering on the edge of my seat, and by the end, I was completely floored. The twists were relentless, and the ending left me stunned. I absolutely loved every intense, shocking moment of it. If you’re a reader who craves stories that don’t tip-toe around the darker sides of life and instead dive straight into the ugly truths, this one’s for you. Go ahead—add it to your cart, and brace yourself for a wild ride.
Rose M Brate has written an amazing mystery thriller!!
Abby was dumbfounded to believe a successful man such as Jack would want to be with her. Unfortunately, Jack turned into a monster behind closed doors. He was found unalived and Abby is accused. Abby and her attorney, Sue, fight to prove her innocence.
Your heart goes out to Abby as you find out what she endured during her marriage and why she didn’t leave. You will be upset with the people that knew it was happening but didn’t relay to the authorities.
There are many turns and twists as you follow Abby on her journey to prove her innocence.
Very fast paced, gripping, rough storyline. This book is not for the faint of heart. It is very tough subject matter. Please check your trigger warnings. Your mental health matters. The ending was very satisfying but did imo leave us open to interpretation for the second book. I was able to guess part of the twist but the final twist i didn’t see coming.
This book gripped my attention and held it tightly all the way until the end. It was not the lightest read as the topics raised were really hard to process, disturbing, heavy... but the ending was utterly satisfying!
Deadly Deceit is an unforgettable roller coaster of suspense, emotion, and jaw-dropping twists. Rose M. Brate delivers a gripping story that pulls you in from the very first page and refuses to let go.
Jack Morrison is charming, wealthy, and impossible to ignore, and watching his whirlwind romance with Abby unfold is both enchanting and unsettling. When their once perfect marriage shatters and Jack is brutally murdered, the story transforms into a masterfully woven mystery filled with tension, suspicion, and emotional depth. Abby becomes the prime suspect, yet every character seems equally capable of murder, keeping you guessing until the last possible moment.
Brate paints both the beauty and the darkness of human nature love, kindness, cruelty, and unimaginable evil while still managing to highlight resilience and dignity in the face of devastation The pacing is superb, the emotional stakes are high, and every twist lands exactly when it should.
Just when you’re certain you’ve solved the mystery… you realize you’re wrong. And that’s what makes Deadly Deceit such a standout. It’s the kind of story that lingers long after you close the book.
This book is by an Indie author and I will say there is not enough attention given to some very capable writers, this story included. The MFC is romanced by a wealthy, charismatic MMC. She should have listened to that little voice in the back of her head. Things turn ugly quickly so check your triggers. I wasn’t triggered as much as angry at the MMC and his so called friend. Ugh the struggles. As the book goes on you’ll say this person or that person is guilty, wrong again. I didn’t guess the right person and I doubt you will. You need to get this book, read it and give this amazing Indie author some recognition. Whew, I stayed up until midnight to finish. I couldn’t have fallen asleep if I wanted to.
As soon as the eerie tones of the virtual narrator filled my ears, I knew Deadly Deceit, artfully penned by Rose M Braten, wasn’t your typical crime thriller; as the police began piecing together the brutal murder scene, I was swept into a labyrinth of deceit, dark musings, and twists that rendered the suspense almost tangible.
It's an intricately dark journey, where every whispered secret and haunting nightmare reverberates with raw emotion. Crafted in a compelling first-person voice, the narrative transforms internal musings into a palpable, almost tactile dread that draws you in relentlessly. Despite my early intuition unraveling the murderer’s identity—a testament to my peculiar knack for clues—I know the finale will still catch most readers completely off guard. Layered with clever red herrings that had me second-guessing every twist, this enthralling thriller shines brightest in its eerie atmosphere, memorable characters, and masterful storytelling, proving that true suspense lingers far beyond the final revelation.
On Audible, this thriller unfurled like a haunting nocturne, its every chord of suspense and revelation echoing in the corridors of my mind. Though it isn't for the faint of heart, you should definitely dare to be whisked away into this midnight waltz whose allure lingers long after the final note.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat wondering who the heck did it! I'm a romance reader so this book was a great cleanser and got me into my mystery shoes. Twists and turns and an ending you wouldn't expect. Be careful of triggers. There are a lot.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Some parts were difficult to read because of the nature of the discussion. I do believe they were 100% necessary to the story. Check your triggers. Abby is doing her best to prove her innocence. But who is the actual murderer? This book kept me guessing until the very end. I can not wait for book 2.
What a fantastic read! The first few chapters had me completely hooked...I couldn’t put it down, even when I should have been sleeping! The final third of the book is especially gripping, making it impossible not to binge-read.
The story kept me engaged from start to finish, constantly making me guess who was behind it all. I was surprised to find my suspicions were correct, but that didn’t take away from the thrill. if anything, it made the journey even more satisfying. It was an emotional rollercoaster, and my heart went out to Abby.
I highly recommend this book, but be sure to check the trigger warnings before diving in. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author!
This book is a mystery murder, but delves into some pretty serious issues, definitely check the trigger warnings before diving into this book. There was only one twist I did not see coming and the ending felt kind of rushed. If you are a fan of True Crime you’ll find some of things that happened in this story as far as police investigation, would’ve never happened this way and this is where the story fell flat for me. I was also not a fan of the insta love, not when I’m reading a thriller anyway and at times I felt it was taken away from the real story. I still enjoyed the reading of this book and definitely would check out more stories from this author.
This story was fantastic. I love a good mystery but don't often see enough set in this day an age. Abigail is an unfortunate, tragic character who deserves so much more than her sadistic spouse offers. This book has layers. The flash backs are gut wrenching and make your heart race, characters have you on edge with suspicions, and the trauma build up from the MFC first encounter with her abuser to the pinnacle of his depravity has your heart aching for her. There's a line in this book that will stay with me forever. I don't want to ruin too much, all I will say is "two pm."

When Jack is found dead, being his wife, Abby is the main suspect. When questioned, you learn that what you see in public is not how it may be behind closed doors. So was it Abby or was it someone else?
This story is not only a great murder mystery, but it also shows the strength and resilience people have after enduring a really tough situation. It has heavy content, but it was so good!
TW: domestic violence, sexual assault, rape, emotional abuse (all important to the story as hard as it is).
A fabulous Indie Author and read! What an emotional ride! Wow! This was an ah-mazing read, keeping me on my toes trying to guess who was behind the lies while my heart broke for Abby. This is a very well written and easy to follow. The characters were developed well which made it easy to dislike some and root for others. I devoured half of the book in one day eager to find out who was responsible. Don't miss this ending! Pick up your copy today! You will not be disappointed!
OMG this guy was so horrible! His end should have come way sooner and way more brutally in my opinion. So check the trigger warnings if she has them listed, because daaaamn 😳 This was my first book by this author, who told a really solid story that held my attention.
This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I loved the romance. I had no idea who the culprit was and it blew my mind when I found out. Rose did an excellent job building the characters and keeping the secrets throughout the book. Definitely a fun, addicting read.
I really enjoyed this one and trying to guess who was involved in Jacks death. Not what I was expecting I got close but I definitely had to keep reading to find out. Want a good mystery read this book!!
This story has some trigger warnings so if you are ok with them I very much recommend the story grabs you at the very first pages and keeps you turning the pages
This was such a good mix of romance and mystery! Abby’s life falls apart after Jack’s murder, and the twists kept me guessing. It’s emotional, suspenseful, and hard to put down.
Holy hell, this book was so good! Abby is abused by her husband Jack and he is rich and powerful, and essentially keeps her hidden from the world. Abby finds friendship in her housekeeper Rita and Jack's driver, Brian, who are with her every step of the way while she is enduring her abuse.
One day Jack is found dead, and all clues lead to Abby as the killer. We follow her journey through the book as we watch her attempt to clear her name and showcase that someone else may indeed be the killer. Now, this book has a crazy twist that I don't think any of us see coming towards the end and it honestly threw me for a loop and had me on the edge of my seat. This book is a psychological Thriller and a genuinely does throw you for a loop because you are constantly guessing who did what or who is behind something.
There is romance but no spice really (kissing scenes and mentions of sex but no detailed spice so very respectful.) I could see this being a movie on the lifetime network. It just gives those vibes.
Two cons I noticed are how abrupt the book ends and then overall the formatting of the book.
Formatting: the book itself is incredible but the formatting is not the best. Some paragraphs are spaced differently than others and for one chapter specifically it ended at the top of another chapter and just looked awkward. The book does have Jewel povs and switches from present to pass a lot and sometimes I found it hard to keep up with whether I was in the present tense or past tense, I would suggest that the author put markers, asterisks, linebreaks etc or put all of the present tense in italics so that it's easy to differentiate between the two when switching so frequently. Sometimes I had to reread some paragraphs to find out what timeline I was reading.
Now the ending; we find out who the killer is but then the last chapter is very very brief and pretty much leaves us hanging. Even though we know who murdered jack, there is no follow-up after that and it just seems like the book was just rushed at that point so the last chapter leaves very much to be desired.
Overall, this book could use some major reformatting and a professional editor to look it over but my rating is solely on the story itself and it is a very good book written by Rose and I think she did an amazing job. It kept my attention from page 1.
Despite being traumatized repeatedly, Abby is a realistic and very strong and likeable character. She never gives up and does all she can to protect herself and fight. I loved and admired her.
5⭐️ Deadly Deceit is a Dark Murder Mystery that unfolds rapidly from start to finish. Just when I thought I had identified the killer, the book prompts me to reassess my suspicions. Though the evidence boldly points to our main female character, Abby, the questions must be asked: Is she truly innocent? Or did Abby finally break and kill her husband, after years of abuse, in hope to free herself?
Rose M Brate has delivered a comprehensive and compellingly raw narrative that addresses heavy emotions, unfiltered scenes, trauma, DV, physical abuse, emotional abuse, verbal abuse, sexual assault, suspense, twists, danger, violence, romance, love and betrayal. Through it all, we as the readers, get to experience Abby’s growth in strength from broken vulnerability in all she has endured.
I became so thoroughly absorbed in the narrative, so attached to Abby, I was astonished to discover I had reached the end of the book and was wishing for the story to continue! I honestly did NOT want it to end! A true page turner!
Wow, what a ride. Rose M Brate did wonders spinning this tale from the MFC Abby to her best friend aka Abby's attorney, Sue. I couldn't find it in me to put this book down; it was that good; Rose's writing style comes close to James Patterson's; one minute, I'm digging Jasper's grave; next, I'm hot for the limo driver Brian, or laughing at Sue's antics. The plot was beautifully written to the point I didn't see the end coming the way it did and I loved it. I would highly recommend giving Deadly Deceit a read. If I could have given it 10 Stars, I would have, so check it out and give it a go. You won't be disappointed. Thank you, Rose M Brate, for such an amazing ride. It's a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Read!
Where to start? This is such an amazing thriller mystery! We are instantly pulled into Abby's world. The story begins with her husband Jack Morrison found unalived, and she is the prime suspect. Kudos to the author. I thought I had figured out the who done it and then Rose threw me a curve ball. And what a twist it was. I loved it so much that I laughed out loud.
Poor Abby! The pain and suffering she had to endure. It made me so angry. I really despised Jack Morrison. How he repeatedly beat her and treated his wife as if she was his property. If Jack hadn't been already unalive, I would have leaped into the book k*lled him myself.
This book reads like a Lifetime movie! It was so real. So raw. I loved every minute of it! Great Job Rose. Now I need to read all her books.
Rose knocks it out the park again for me by pulling off an intensely captivating “who done it?”
I finished this book in record time for my typical reads, which goes to show this thrill ride is definitely a page turner.
While my suspicion was all over the place through the entire duration of the story, I did suspect the actual killer. The motive I had in mind for them was all wrong, though! No spoilers!
As an empath, I held back from reading this book for far too long. My heart broke for Abby with all she endured, but I made it through without getting triggered! 🙌 I’m so glad I gave it a chance!
