Based on Matthew 13:44, this little book explains the treasure in the field parable about the Kingdom of Heaven - what it costs and what benefits come through obtaining it. The chapters are six selections from "What Jesus Demands from the World" by John (1) Coming to Jesus is Not Easy; (2) Following Jesus is a Hard Road; (3) The Road is Hard But it is Not Joyless; (4) Strive to Enter the Narrow Door; (5) Without Jesus Our Striving Would Be Losing; and (6) Our Joy in Jesus Sustains Our Striving.

Accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour isn't the end of your spiritual walk with Him. It's actually just the beginning of it. In order to have a joyful life, you must follow Him and continue what he had done on earth — sharing the good news.
Without a doubt, a lot of people have been arguing about this matter. That's why following Jesus is a major decision you'll have to think about. Faith. It requires your faith in the father's son.
But one thing is for sure. Following Him is hard but it is not joyless. It is really worth it.
What a power-packed little book. Only 84 pages but oh my! One of my favorite lines is the paradoxical: "...we strive to enter the Kingdom from inside the Kingdom." Also, re: Matt 13:44... "This man suddenly found something that transformed his whole outlook on life. It restructured his priorities. It altered his goals. His vales changed. The treasure revolutionized the man."
If more tracts were like this, we'd have more conversions. Maybe not exactly entry-level introduction to Christianity, but encouraging to the faltering. Piper makes you yearn to know God more deeply.
One of the easiest to read track/devotionals I’ve ever read. It truly does help you understand that to find the joy in the entire journey you must have a paradigm shift in your life. The chapters were short into the point. I keep this book on my bed stand and draw from it frequently.
It reminds us at what price our salvation cost because of our humanness and inabilities to be perfect humans. It reminds us to never look back. It reminds me that Mercy is much more valuable than money. It reminds me that when I covet I am really hating the giver as much as the gift so to keep my eyes on my life. It reminded me that there are two reasons people fall away from God, too much bad or too much good and that I must keep my eyes on Jesus, not the world.
Super helpful! Brief discussion about the call to discipleship with Jesus that is rooted in self-denial/taking up our cross for his sake. Part two was more on how to take heart and receive His joy on the hard but rewarding journey of knowing Him. I am definitely refreshed and encouraged after this read!
Es pequeñito pero un buen libro. Te ayuda a enfocar tu mirada en la Gran Perla de precios sin igual: Jesucristo. Por lo qué todo lo demás es pérdida :). Vale la pena el perderlo todo por El.
Disclaimer: I only listened to this one on Hoopla.
For those familiar with Piper’s works, this is Pipperian to the core. The book is about serious joy and serious suffering in and for the all sufficient savior, Jesus Christ. Christ is better than all the world has to offer; therefore, in your joy, give up all to follow Him.
