You'd think a girl with the most romantic name in the world would have her pick of boyfriends.
But Valentine's Day sucks when you're single. Just ask Juliet Valentine, whose last name happens to also be the name of the most dreaded made-up holiday ever.
A romantic at heart, this year is especially hard on Juliet. Her sister, Layla, is in a new relationship, her mom's match-making business is doing great, and her school's new fundraiser is "Love-Grams."
Juliet's miserable, a little jealous, and lonely.
Quarterback Jared Black is the most popular guy in school. A star athlete, Jared tops the most-eligible bachelor list year after year. But to Juliet Valentine, he's all but invisible. She isn't impressed.
Jared's never had to work hard to get the attention of a girl before. Valentine's Day is fast approaching, and he's determined to ask Juliet out. After all, if Tyler can win over Layla, Jared ought to have a shot with Layla's sister.
Unlike Tyler and Layla, charm, flattery and good looks won't work on Juliet. So with the V-Day dance coming up, Jared uses the school’s Love-Grams to let Juliet know how he feels. Should be simple enough, right?
Wrong. Each attempt ends up either in the trash or thrown in someone's face. Juliet won't play his game.
Now, without a date to the dance Jared realizes it’s going to take a Hail Mary to win the girl of his dreams.

Right Kiss Wrong Guy is the second book in the Offsides series. This book can be read as a standalone. I haven't read the first novel, however I intend to because I enjoyed this story and I want more.
Juliet has been burnt and has sworn off football players. Her cheating ex has taught her not to kiss the wrong boy. Jared Black is the quarterback and on the strict no list, but there's more to him than meets the eye.
Jared has been in love with Juliet Valentine for as long as he can remember. She's feisty, smart and unlike any other girl Jared knows. He wants to impress her, but he's on the losing team right from the start. Juliet is stubborn. Jared is willing to put the effort in to win her affections all he has to do is work out what she wants.
I had a love/ hate relationship with Juliet. Her character is diverse. She made me laugh. She made me want to scream. She's stubborn, frustrating, but totally loveable. I was totally hooked on her moody behaviour. This book has a good motto. Be yourself. If a guy likes you he will like you for keeps.
4 stars out of 5. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review as part of the chapter by chapter blog tour. My post will be on the 22nd January and will include an interview.
Right Kiss Wrong Guy was a pretty enjoyable book. Especially for being the second book in the series.
Honestly, it's been a couple of months since I read the first book - but in my opinion these books could be read as standalone instead of reading them in order. In this book you find Juliet and Jared. Juliet has unfortunately sworn off football guys because she's tired of being burned from them. I hear ya girl! However, Jared definitely catches her eye once or twice but she has to stick to her guns ..or does she.
Then there's Jared who has basically been in love with Juliet all of his life. DID YOU JUST HEAR ME SWOON GUYS? 'Cause I totally did. Juliet is the apple of his eye and no other girl can compare to her. Will he get the girl of his dreams? Or will she stay stubborn as ever?
fjkadlfjksalfjkslfjklsafjdksal GUYS!
I loved these two so freaking much. From the beginning I was swooning and shipping for them to be together. Juliet could sometimes be annoying but I loved her humor and how she was lovable at the same time. Weird, I know. Then there's Jared, who definitely made me swoon once or twice.
Firstly, I didn’t like the first book in this series, Right Text Wrong Number. Not much at all, really. But I did like the backstory between Juliet and Jared after reading the book. As a result, I was anxious to read their story and hoped to enjoy this book more than the first. I was wrong. This book fell into many similar patterns that I disliked about the first book.
1) Juliet was a straight-up jerk. The way she treated Jared was 100% terrible and loathsome with no substantial basis for majority of the book. She basically holds her prejudices against him and seethes and glowers at him for saying hi. Even if the reader granted her a little grace and sympathy considering her ex and his behavior, she was awful. I didn’t understand that Juliet was hateful to Jared, then a bit friendlier to him, then lashing out on him when he showed concern for her. Then when he treats her in one/two scenes similarly to how she’s been treating him for weeks, she gets all weepy and pleads the victim, claiming he hurt me out of nowhere. What? For 60% of the book, I was wishing Jared was just move on and not look back. I also didn’t like that she was mainly the jerk but she hardly apologized. Jared did. Ugh! Personally, Layla and Tyler’s relationship in the first book was similar to this degree.
2) The romantic build sucked. It was basically one step forward, three steps back. Like, “this is not a date, then you hurt my feelings because you didn’t treat this like a date.” Or, “I’m going to be a jerk to you, then you hurt my feelings because you cut me out your life.” Or, “I’m going to show this girl I like her, I’m not going to officially cut ties with another girl.” I felt that the push-and-pull of the story wasn’t done effectively or correctly.
3) The ending was rushed, mostly because it felt like the lead characters didn’t evolve into their HEA. The ending was not necessarily out of nowhere, but it didn’t feel like the natural next step.
I realize the first thing anyone asks when someone rants about reading a book they clearly disliked is, “Then why did you read it?” Well, while I could have easily stopped reading at any given moment, I didn’t because I hate not finishing books. And, honestly, I was very hopeful. I liked the premise and backstory so much that I held out hope that the story might get better for me. Sadly, this wasn’t the case.
Overall, I did not like this book and I wouldn’t recommend it!
I had already the previous book in the series and I had quite a bit of fun with it. So when I came across this one, I didn't hesitate to pick it up.
The starting of the book was quite good and it kind of left off where Layla's story had ended. So it was a continuation for me. But it can read as a standalone. There aren't that many references to confuse the reader.
I was quite looking forward to Juliet's story. So the change in her character had me blinking in surprise. I so didn't see that coming. I knew she would be hurt but not to the extent that her character is completely changed. But still, I liked her in this book. She was feisty and a bit grouchy and yet entertaining with her quirks and reactions. As for Jared, he was the sweetest in his actions and his plans to woo Juliet with the love grams. He definitely made me swoon with his long lived love for Juliet!
As much as I had a fun time reading the book with the continued efforts of Jared in winning Juliet over and her continued rebuffing of Jared's actions, there were few points which made the story weaker in my opinion. Juliet's blind hatred of Jared could have been better explained in the story. And though Jared was a great guy, he seemed to be holding back when it comes to his love life. And the ending felt kind of rushed for me. It literally had me blinking at the abruptness. It could have been played out a bit more.
Inspite of it all, I did enjoy the tale of Juliet's stubbornness and Jared's patience. Now I can't wait to read about Addie in the future!
I received a copy voluntarily for reviewing purposes. This doesn't impact my thoughts in any way.
My one line review : A quick school romance with a rushed ending.
Right Kiss Wrong Guy is the second book in Natalie Decker’s “Offsides” series and the first that I’ve read.
The relationship between nerdy, Juliet, who has just been cheated on by a football player, Mark, and brainy and brawny, Jared, who has loved Juliet from afar since grade school, is push and pull. Juliet can’t even conceive of dating another football player because she’s certain they’re all jerks with the exception of her best friend, Chase, and her twin sister’s boyfriend, Tyler.
Jared, meanwhile, is pulled in too many directions. He wants to date Juliet, but his father wants him to live the life he’s planned out for him, which is football, football, and more football. That life also means no girls. He’s never asked or even considered that Jared might want another life.
Despite the fact that I really liked both Juliet and Jared (Jared a bit more only because he seemed more layered and relatable), I grew annoyed with their stubbornness, especially Juliet’s as she dwelled in her own personal angst and never considered her friends, although she does acknowledge this. That combined with the abrupt ending in which suddenly Juliet and Jared are together but the reader never gets to savor this moment because the epilogue is already setting up the next novel with no mention of Jared and Juliet (say what?!) almost made me change the rating from 4 stars/butterflies to 3 1/2. When you read a novel with this much back and forth stubbornness, it does seem like you should have a delicious ending. I literally felt like I blinked and then suddenly was reading about the next couple. That was a bit of a letdown.
Did that somehow devolve into a minor rant? Don’t let it color whether you read the book or not. I enjoyed Jared and Juliet’s story enough to read it very quickly.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Let me start by saying that I really do like this series, I really do. And this book is not bad at all.
I really wanted to give it a 4 star rating, because I loved the first book. But for me, this book felt way to rushed. It started out great, just like #1, but on the last 100 pages or so, it seemed like everything happened "way to easy", just so the book could end. And I were not really that satisfied in the end, because it seemed like Julie just ended up saying "sure why not". I wanted to go more in deep with the characters still, like the first book did all the way.
But again, this is not a bad book at all. And I am really looking forward to reading the 3rd in the series.
I'm facing this problem a lot these days, when I like the first book in a series and the other books are just crappy continuation for the book .. ugh I wish if this series was just the first book So in this book we follow Juliet ( Layla's Twin) and the boy who always crushed on her Jared (Tyler's Friend ) I really didn't get the story .. it was unnecessarily dramatic and it I couldn't enjoy it much, I was so pissed at Adaline and felt sorry for Chase .. things are just messed up in this book and I didn't like it
DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC OF THIS BOOK THROUGH CHAPTER BY CHAPTER BOOK TOURS FOR HONEST REVIEW, AND FOR MY PARTICIPATION A THIS BLOG TOUR.
I remember Jared from Right Text, Wrong Number. I really liked him from amongst Tyler's crowd. Juliet is not as easy-going as her twin sister, Layla. It was positively nerve-wracking and awesome the lengths Jared goes to try and win her over. I loved Jared's chapters. Couldn't get enough of him. Juliet is a great character. It took some time to like her as much as I like Layla, but that's because I'm familiar with Layla already, even though Juliet is brought in a lot throughout that book. All in all, I really enjoyed this book and I await to know if there are more coming!
The offside series could be read as a standalone or in continuation. I really liked seeing Jared standing up for himself and going for what he wants. Juliet on the other hand she is more focussed on herself and more self centered than her twin. The story develops slowly and I love seeing it come together. my only question is what happened with Kimber?
**Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book.**
When the object of your affection...hates your guts.
Juliet is through with love and everything that goes along with it. That includes Valentine's Day and the stupid Love-Grams that everyone is gushing about at school. When she starts to receive some of her own, she's sure that they are coming from her scumbag cheater of an ex-boyfriend. So she promptly throws the grams right back in his face. Oh, and some in the trashcan too.
Jared is shocked when the grams he sent Juliet wind up in the garbage. She thinks they came from her ex and couldn't possibly believe that Jared might have sent them. And even if he did admit to having sent them, Juliet has sworn off all members of the football team. She won't even look his way unless it's to bite his head off.
But nothing will stop Jared from trying to win over the girl he's wanted for so long. If he doesn't step up now, someone else will and take his place. Unfortunately, more than one obstacle still stands in his way. His father has forbidden him from dating and another girl thinks that he's her boyfriend. If he wants Juliet, Jared will have to stop trying to please everyone and give himself permission to break the rules.
This book left me feeling a little unsure in the end. The story started out so well and then somewhere along the way it became a little tedious. I liked Juliet. And I found her I-hate-Valentine's attitude to be pretty entertaining in the beginning. Those anti-love t-shirts of hers were funny. I even laughed when she started getting the Valentine grams that she despised so much. Sure, she was a grouch, but she was still getting over being hurt.
Jared, I liked from the beginning. He was sweet and under a lot of pressure from his father. I felt bad for him but also rooted for the boy to win the girl. Eventually, I started to get annoyed with his behavior. Because while he was still a good guy, he began to do things that I thought were outside of his character. I wish he had been more honest with the girls who were chasing after him.
It's hard to blame the characters in this situation, when I think it's more that the story just got carried away. There was so much conflict, coming from every side. No one was acting the same way toward the end of the book as they did in the beginning. That made the story feel forced. I still liked the characters and wanted them to find a happy ending, but I just wish it had gotten there a little sooner.
On the other hand, I did enjoy a lot about this book and I didn't want to put it down. I laughed quite a bit at Jared's attempts to get Juliet's attention. Poor guy kept sending the Valentines even when it continued to blow up in his face. The monopoly game was entertaining. And I thought the trip to visit the school nurse was downright adorable. Jared was incredibly swoon-worthy in that moment.
In closing... I hope Juliet's best friend gets her guy in the sequel. 3.5 suns!
Layla’s twin sister Juliet had her heart broken by boyfriend Mark at the end of RIGHT TEXT WRONG GUY, and now we get her story. Jared Black has been pining after Juliet for as long as he can remember, but he’s too afraid of rejection to ask her out. The fact that he and Mark are football teammates only makes it worse because Juliet has sworn she’ll never date a football player again. Add to that Jared’s overbearing father and high school football coach, and Jared doesn’t really have much time for dating anyway. That doesn’t stop him from doing everything he can to get on Juliet’ good side, though.
Juliet is angry at all boys. And love. And Valentine’s day. So when a bunch of love grams suddenly begin showing up for her, she assumes it’s Mark, still trying to apologize and win her back. Watching the push and pull of these two is cute and fun, but Juliet’s anger is palpable and there were times I honestly wondered why Jared didn’t give up. He goes all-in though, upping his game with each day that passes, until Juliet’s icy exterior begins to melt.
Plot This is your basic teen romance. There’s not a heck of a lot more going on. It’s about Jared winning Juliet’s heart and Juliet doing everything she can to keep that from happening with Jared or anyone else. Some of it is predictable, but Natalie Decker’s style of writing is always entertaining. There were more than a few laugh-out-loud moments
The Characters Jared definitely has a lot going on at home with his dad insisting he run drills in the backyard every night, lift weights three nights a week, and never, ever, stop working toward an NFL career, even though that’s the last thing Jared wants. Even though Juliet’s home life is a bit more settled, she actually goes through more growth than Jared does, coming to terms with the fact that she doesn’t really hate all boys and that Mark is not the poster child for the gender.
Top Five Things I Enjoyed About RIGHT KISS WRONG GUY 1. Chase. I love straight guy best friends and Chase is a great one, with his eyes and heart set on Adeline.
2. Perseverance. In this world of #metoo, there is a fine line between determination and stalking, but Jared goes right up to that line without stepping over. His dedication to winning Juliet’s heart is sweet rather than creepy.
3. Jared. He’s a good guy, which is a refreshing change from most romantic alpha males.
4. Juliet. I loved her in the first book, but it took me a while to warm up to her in her own story. Her anger was over the top at times. Not that it wasn’t understandable, I mean anyone who had their heart ripped out during the teen years knows how all-consuming that can be, but I hated that she took it out on everyone around her. It was hard to sympathize with her at first. However, by about the 33% mark, I remembered what I loved about her.
5. Love. As much as Juliet claims to hate love (often broadcasting it with her choice of wardrobe), it wins out in the end.
Bottom Line This is a sweet young adult romance with plenty of laughs.

You'd think a girl with the most romantic name in the world would have her pick of boyfriends.

Juliet's miserable, a little jealous, and lonely.

In this story we meet Juliet Valentine, Layla’s twin sister. Juliet is goal oriented, she is anti-love much to her mother’s chagrin. Her mom runs a matchmaking company, and since Valentine’s day is coming up, Juliet is trying to shun the whole ‘holiday’. The guy she thought was interested in her was just playing her, and well his friend Jared doesn’t like that.
Jared tries everything to win over Juliet, but she is resistant to his charms. He has loved her pretty much his whole life. Fanning my lil heart over here, because in most stories it’s the other way around. I really like how this story is not your typical YA story. They are forced to work together, and Jared finds himself in some precarious situations because of Juliet. The fact that he did some of this for her melts my icy little heart.
It did take some time to warm up to Juliet because she comes across as a shrewd and a prude. While reading Jared’s story, my heart truly broke for him. He was easy to relate to, and just so charming. I would definitely recommend this story to others.
“Right Kiss Wrong Guy” brings us Layla’s twin sister’s story and Jared (Tyler’s best friend). At the end of book 1 we find out that Juliet’s boyfriend has eyes for other girls as well. After finally taking a chance on having a social life and a boyfriend, she has her heart crushed and faith in football players ruined forever. Little did she know that Jared has had his eyes on her for quite a while. Now he has to score a lot of points to win her confidence.
This battle that Jared has is not only with Juliet’s strong mind, but also with her entourage. He has to win her back because he just cannot stand seeing another guy with her. So he uses the approaching Valentine’s Day as an excuse to buy her secret presents. Faith has them partners in sole classes so he takes advantage of all these little moments he gets with her.
I liked it so much! I loved to see how Juliet’s heat melts piece by piece one she starts uncovering all Jared’s layers and once she understands he is really different. Her issues with football players will become a bad memory. But what I mostly liked about her was the way she owned her different character. She never tries to fit in. She is what she is, no makeup, no dress-up. Smart, strong and stubborn – I like it!
Without a doubt, 4 stars go to this book and all my happy thoughts to the author for this great high school romance book. Have fun reading J
Right Kiss Wrong Guy is my first Natalie Decker novel, and I really enjoyed it. I felt like I was back in high school reading it.
Jared was my favorite character. I related to him the most because I lived a similar existent growing up with my dad. I felt bad for him, but at one point I wanted him to give up or man up. He did have a stupid moment where he needed a whack to the back of the head, but he was genuinely a nice guy. His crush and feelings for Juliet were very sweet.
Juliet… I liked her overall, but she was a little ragey and a little selfish. She had tunnel vision during the month leading up to the dance and couldn’t see outside her situation. It ended up hurting some of her friends and her sister. Her ex was an idiot, but just as she didn’t want people to see her as the nerdy one, she needed to not see all jocks as stupid jerks like him.
I didn’t read the first book in the series, but RKWG can be read as a standalone. I didn’t feel like I was missing any references. I liked how Decker transported us into the classrooms and homes of these characters. I just wish I would have gotten a better idea of what they looked like… Overall, it was fun, quick read.
From a girl who wants to steer to clear of heartache to a jock who wants the only girl he can’t have, this book is filled determination, romance and a little fun. The two main characters are both struggling, but for the exact opposite reason. We’ve all been with these two, be it Juliet, who is just wanting to avoid all heartache, at any cost - I know we’ve all been there after having our hearts ripped out - or Jared - who will give anything to have the girl he’s been crushing madly on since primary school - I know we all must have experienced this!
These two are a curious pair and were very fun to get to know. I really loved that they were both strong and determined, potentially even a little willing to give a bit, when the right time comes…you’ll have to wait and see. It was great to have two very strong-willed people as leads, and to read along as that exact stubborn nature may have caused a mishap or two.
I thought it was a cute and very fun read. Again, this second book, in the series, is definitely one that teen/secondary aged readers will love if they are looking for something fun, romantic, funny and a bit light-hearted, whilst still being very real.
It is very similar to the first book in the series, Right Text Wrong Guy. Layla’s twin Juliet is the focus of this story. In the first novel, Layla was texting a guy she liked, but didn’t realize it was Tyler. In this book, Juliet slowly falls for her secret admirer who she doesn’t know is Jared. In both stories the guys knew what was going on and we get to see both perspectives of the story.
This story followed the same plot as the first book, so it was predictable. The good thing was the story began right away, since the characters were introduced in the previous story.
Another good thing was that they only discussed what happened in the novella, Right Gift Wrong Day, in passing. Anyone who didn’t read that novella, which takes place between the two novels, wouldn’t feel left out. However, the novella was a great little bonus for fans of the series.
This book is a must read for fans of the rest of the Offsides series!
I received a copy of this book from Chapter by Chapter blog tours.
Boy has been crushing on girl since elementary school but with his fathers professional football goals for him and his rigorous schedule he feels he doesnt have time to be a good boyfriend (or so he claims)
Girl just had her first real relationship, with a popular football player of all things, that ended with him kissing another girl in front of the whole school leaving her scorned and has sworn off all guys, especially football players.
So how does the schools #1 football god get the girl when she seems to hate him and to top it all off they end up with every class together.
Overall, I liked the book and I got that the main characters were at times either too angry or too wimpy for my tastes. I think it would have been more realistic to have people stepping in more for attitude control. I did enjoy the ending but the characters just needed a little more work (which is sad because as supporting characters in the last book, I loved them both.)
In the second book of the Offside series, we see Juliet, heartbroken from her very first boyfriend. And with Valentine's Day just around the corner, everything is just getting worse. But Juliet is receiving some love-grams from an anonymous admirer that she swears is her cheating-lying ex-boyfriend, but it doesn't seem like it at all... Could Juliet have another chance at finding love?
I gobbled up this book. I loved the flow of the story so much! I love how Juliet's emotions were so well narrated. It very well describes as teen angst. I really like that the dual point of view of the characters are there too. We see the intention, confusion, and the misunderstanding between the two main characters.
This book had so much potential with Jared's family expectations, and Juliet's friendship problems. But I felt as though those plot points weren't used very well. I wished there was more to it. In a way, since this is a series, we might see that happening... I also thought the ending was rushed... The way the characters's problems were solved was quite messy and not very well thought out.
In total though, I do love the beginning to the middle. I love the banter and the characters. And I am very interested in reading the rest of the series.
The first book killed me. Who doesn’t love the stubborn girl with the stubborn boy? But Juliet and Jared won my heart. Maybe I see enough of myself in her to know she deserved the guy who swept her off her feet and reminded her to breathe! I can’t wait for more of this series!
I love this book because I love how the smart sweet jock has to win over the nerdy gamer girl! This book is so relatable to me because I can totally relate to the character Juliet and how she doesn’t like going to dances. If you are going to read this book you should probably read the first one “right text, wrong number.” Enjoy the book! Happy reading!!!
This series is cute. The teen drama is realistic, as in it’s over the top and drawn out too long. But overall, the storyline is fun and it’s got a happy ending, which always works for me!
Liked the first one in the series a bit more, but still good. Quite a bit of language. A girl set to be against romance and a bit set on winning the girl. Plot was enjoyable.
I just love this. The main characters are soo stubborn And funny at times. I hope there are more books I really want to know what happens with Addy and Austin
Jared and Justin for starters are just awesome, both are so nice guys you can get behind. Love that the previous story with Layla and Tyler got tied in neatly. I really really really want to see a happy ending for Chase.
