This book is currently a textbook for primary schools in Malaysia. It's considered a short story and is one of the Year 5 textbooks. I think it's a great book for children who are starting to read in English- ones who already have a bit of vocabulary but have yet to read much independently. It's a great, magical story which children will definitely love- just the right amount of logic and craziness.
