An unsolved murder, like a lost love, never leaves your heart

As a child, Tiare Kaihale had a dark and difficult life, made beautiful by the aunt who raised her and her brother. Then there was also the incredible friendship she shared with her best friend, blonde, happy, Sunflower Riley.

Tiare and Sunflower did everything together, including being kidnapped when they were twelve. It’s a memory Tiare has buried deep. She’d never even told her husband, Detective Pono Kaihale, because of her relentless survivor guilt. Now she can’t even look at sunflowers, but suddenly they’re everywhere. One sunflower even mysteriously appears in her garden.

Then the police arrive at her Maui home one hot Sunday in August as she’s catering a wedding brunch for thirty people.

Sunflower’s body has been found. Twenty years after her precious friend vanished, she’s coming home to be buried.

Old secrets, terrible ones, rise to the surface, and Tiare becomes the target of the person who thought Sunflower was gone. For Pono, this manhunt is more than personal. It’s life and death, and he will risk everything to protect the woman he loves, and to unravel the mystery of a girl named Sunflower.

Author’s note: Although this is the third book featuring Tiare Kaihale, this story is a standalone title. It does not need to be read in sequence with the others.

KU loan. Okay. I wanted this book to end, to find out ‘whodunit’, but was sad it ended, it was so well written! Fiona really brings to life the Hawaiian spiritual culture, the beautiful scenery, the birds, the fish, etc., etc. I just wanted to keep reading her words. I love Tiare’s story, love reading about her man, Pono, how gentle and loving he is. Great cold-case crime story, lots of twists and turns. Many of our well-known characters are there: Lei, Cpt. Omura, Abe Torufu,Gerry Bunuelos... My nerves were jangled, my heart racing many times. This one is a must read! 5 stars is not enough!

A great Read

This maybe the best yet of this series. Sunflower went missing, long ago, Tiare has never forgotten the day. But who was it, that took her away. There is a lot of Hawaiian beliefs and spirituality in these books, a lot of their spiritual culture. As memories return, wiki the killer be found, will Tiare be safe. Definitely worth reading
