Twenty choices will bring contentment when the world says you aren’t enough, closeness born of relationship with God, boldness to share the truth, and peace in times of trial. These choices were made by Daniel, a young Jewish man serving God in a godless society, revered by God, saved from lions. The Daniel Key will lead you to a life-changing faith.
What are the secrets of a successful, steadfast, and godly faith? Daniel was honored by God, protected, and trusted. His faith did not waver facing those who were against him, serving new kings in power, or even confronting hungry lions. How can you have that kind of faith? Daniel made 20 intentional, key choices in his life. Those choices took him down a path to a close relationship with God and a model for godly living to all around him. Daniel’s choices can be your choices—choices such as:
The choice to trust The choice to obey The choice to pray The choice to worship The choice to repent The choice to live humbly The choice to have courage The 20 choices will bring you contentment when the world says you are not enough, closeness born of a relationship with God, boldness to share the truth, and peace in times of trial. The Daniel Key will lead you to a life-changing faith.
Anne Graham Lotz (born May 1948) is an American Christian evangelist. She is the second daughter of evangelist Billy Graham and his wife Ruth Graham. Anne Graham Lotz accepts speaking invitations worldwide, is founder of AnGeL Ministries, and an award-winning author.
In this book, Ms. Lotz identifies twenty good choices made by Daniel and encourages us to follow his example because our choices build our character. Good choices produce good character, and bad choices build bad character; so, our goal should include making good choices. The choices featured in the book are:
• Faith • Worship • Loyalty • Prayer partners • Praying for others • Praying God’s word • Attitude • Listening • A daily prayer time • Perseverance • Desperate prayers • Values • Focus • Courage • Confession • Fasting • Forgiveness • Humility • A personal relationship with God • Commitment
In general, I agree with her assessments. They tend to be good applications. Yet, I have a few qualms. For example, Ms. Lotz draws the daily prayer time from Daniel’s choice to pray three times a day. So far so good. But she then turns it into a case for a morning prayer time. The text doesn’t say when Daniel prayed. That one of them might have been in the morning is a reasonable assumption but hardly a case for the necessity of a morning prayer time. I always get uncomfortable when I get the impression that someone is laundering an assumption into a certainty, and think this is the case here.
In summary, Ms. Lotz provides some good applications from Daniel but occasionally over-reaches. The reader will profit from it but should keep his critical thinking cap on. Come to think of it, that critical thinking cap should stay on when reading anything written by anyone or listening to anything said by anyone.
Anne Graham Lotz has written a small book that holds wisdom received from when she was writing The Daniel Prayer. As I read through it, I was thinking what a good gift this would be for a young Christian who is graduating as well as one who has walked with the Lord for decades.
Each chapter talks about a decision made by Daniel which caused him to walk with God in the midst of great adversity and be used by God in Babylon.
Chapters are:
Faith Makes a Difference Worship Makes a Difference Loyalty Makes a Difference Prayer Partners Make a Difference Praying for Others Makes a Difference Praying God's Word Makes a Difference Attitude Makes a Difference Listening Makes a Difference A Daily Prayer Time Makes a Difference Perseverance Makes a Difference Desperate Prayers Make a Difference Values Make a Difference Focus Makes a Difference Courage Makes a Difference Confession Makes a Difference Fasting Makes a Difference Forgiveness Makes a Difference Humility Makes a Difference A Personal Relationship with God Makes a Difference Commitment Makes a Difference
I highly recommend this small jewel of a book. The imitation leather blue cover makes it appropriate for both men and women.
The Daniel Key was provided by the publisher for the sake of review but the opinions are my own.
I always found the "Book of Daniel" inspiring as a child, and I still find it inspiring today. Daniel had so much unshakeable faith, and God favored him as a result - he stopped the mouth's of lions and Daniel was saved. He escaped a fiery furnace thanks to God's intervention. The book of Daniel definitely demonstrates God's love and commitment to the faithful.
I was pleasantly surprised to thus find a book that takes you through 20 days of key spiritual lessons from Daniel by Anne Graham Lotz.
Anne Graham Lotz is definitely the most well-read, accessible, and intellectual teacher in the Graham family. Her book, "The Daniel Key" is a carefully thought out and well-structured book with a Bible verse for each day (not just from Daniel, but according to the daily theme), spiritual lesson, and prayer for 20 wonderful days of reading and praying.
The Holy Spirit is evident throughout every page . The power of a God guided life comes to light immediately from the beginning of the book
I so enjoyed each line of promise as i followed Daniel throughout each situation. Ive studied and read Daniel before but saw him from a new view with annes words.
I am so thankful that God has seen it fit to guide me to this book. It has helped me in my prayer life , give me confidence to be an instrument to spread the good news of Jesus Christ and His love for mankind. I wish everyone can have access to this book because it would open the eyes of those who are asleep.
I love this study of Daniel 9. Currently doing the study for the second time. The hardback and the video along with the study guide give a deeper understanding. Full of scripture truth to apply or help tools from how ANN studies. Very helpful. I’ve learned more this second time around.
This little book is a great study of the book of Daniel. Choices made by a man centuries ago to live for and trust God should be our choices today. Daniel's example of a life well lived is as relevant today as it was then.
This book is written in such humble and clear style. The author uses personal experience as well as the experiences of Daniel to outline 20 keys to living a life pleasing to God.
Ann Graham Lotz is an incredibly gifted teacher. She take Daniel’s life and uses examples to explain the power in praying and the word. Life application and thoughtful question help you reach deep in your soul and encourage you to follow the Lord Jesus more closely.
I find reading books such as The Daniel Key remind me gently of how to live my life day by day, how to reach out to God in pray and service, and of His undying love.
Anne Graham Lotz shares her insight and powerful prayers to help us apply in depth this Old Testament book. The words of Daniel are always relevant, always purposeful, and always needed.
Nice devotional book. Easy to follow. Had not paid too much attention to the prophet Daniel but this was a good introduction. Received as a Christmas gift.
I really enjoyed this book. It reads like a daily devotional with a verse, a short reading and prayer. She has a beautiful way of speaking/writing. I enjoyed learning more about Daniel!
The Daniel Key was a quick read and held some very interesting points but at times strayed too far from Daniel. The Kindle edition that I read was offered for free I think through Book Bub. I grew up hearing Billy Graham so was anxious to hear/read anything from Anne Graham Lotz. And for free? How could I lose? I was disappointed. It was a sweet book, and as I said had some good points, but there were problems with the text in my opinion.
This is a wonderful book! It's all about Daniel and how we can look to him as we have the courage to make the right choices in life.
First of all, this is such a pretty book! It has a lovely blue cover and inside, the printing and artwork are also blue. It makes for easy reading but also is very eye-pleasing. For this reason, it would make a lovely gift for someone. Graduates would especially love this book as a guide to living their lives for the Lord, but of course, it would make a great gift for anyone.
The book is all about twenty choices we can make that will impact our lives, and the lives of others, for the better. Making the hard choices, as Daniel did, is not always easy but it makes a huge difference in our walk with the Lord.
I love how each chapter is short and easy to read. Yet, each one is so full Biblical wisdom that really gives us good direction for our lives. I like how she emphasizes the amazing life of Daniel and how we can look to him for inspiration.
This is another wonderful book by Anne Graham Lotz and I highly recommend it. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
*This book was provided to me for my honest review by BookLook Bloggers
"The Daniel Key" looks at 20 habits or actions that Daniel did that led to him being a successful, well-known man of God. The book is a hardbound, gift-type book and has a devotional format. Each chapter started with a verse (usually from Daniel) which had the characteristic focused on in that chapter. Then the author told a story--from Daniel's life or from her own or another's life--that demonstrated that characteristic. She clearly summed up the spiritual point, then provided a few questions to think about relating to that topic and a prayer asking for help in that area. She made good points. Overall, I'd recommend this book, especially for new Christians or young Christians (like teens).
The 20 keys were: faith (in God), worship, loyalty (to God), prayer partners, praying for others, praying God's word, attitude (and gratitude), listening (to God), daily prayer time, perseverance, desperate prayers, values (worth dying for), focus (on God), courage, confession (of sins to God), fasting (from things we hold tight to), humility, a personal relationship with God, and commitment (to God).
I received a review copy of this book from the publisher through BookLook.
I’ve seen The Daniel Key offered as a kindle book, as well as the hardback version I received. While I prefer kindle for most books, I’ll admit that this classic collectible edition wormed it’s way into my heard before I even lifted the cover. Just looking at it was relaxing and I knew it would stay in my heart.
The Daniel Key is the first book I’ve read from Anne Graham Lotz. I really enjoyed her personality, not too girly, not whiny, but always friendly and non-judgemental. I also enjoyed her thought process, make a point, share an applicable story, summarize, and pray. Mrs. Lotz managed to stay reverant while still low-key and friendly. I never felt like I was being preached at but instead felt that she was sharing insights with my over coffee.
The Daniel Key is a sweet book that mage a huge impression on me and that I’m going to read again, and share with friends.
This book had its moments but overall it was rather pedestrian. I was somewhat disappointed in the book. Anne list twenty features that makes prayers successful. These are: faith, worship, loyalty, partners, God's Word, attitude, listening, daily time, perseverance, desperate prayer, values, focus, courage, confession, fasting, forgiveness, humility, personal relationship with God, and commitment. The fleshing out of many of these ideas was rather weak although in places she did have some very good comments.
The followup to the Daniel Prayer! In this book the keys are fleshed out and are presented along with examples of how you can add this type of prayer and preparedness to your personal bible study and prayer time.
