Introduction to Demonology: A Study of the Devil and Demons... Satan, the Antichrist, demonic activity, diabolical possession, exorcism, the exorcist, more.
"Introduction to A Study of the Devil and Demons" is a beginning primer for anyone interested in a Catholic view of demonology. This work is a handy reference guide with a historical overview on the topic and includes a lengthy dictionary as well as a resource guide to hundreds of books and other resources on the topic. A vast array of topics are covered in this spiritual warfare, temptation, obsession, infiltration, possession, exorcism, witchcraft, sorcery, the occult, Satanism, and much more.
Author Michael Freze, S.F.O., is a Catholic author of dozens of published books, including a bestseller for Our Sunday Visitor. He has written a 12-volume series on demonology which was given the Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur by former Bishop of the Diocese of Helena, Montana, the Most Reverend Elden F. Curtiss (later appointed Archbishop to the Diocese of Omaha, Nebraska).
The author has appeared on numerous national television shows including "The Phil Donahue Show," "The Liza Show," "The History Channel," as well as several appearances on EWTN ("Mother Angelica Live!").
If you are looking for an interesting book on Catholic folklore or exorcism, this book completely misses the mark. It is so terribly ethnocentric that even the information that is valuable is obscured by constant assurance of bias dribble, such as called many cultural practices "silly diabolical tricks used by the devil...", while in the same breath insisting that meditation is "a walking invitation to demonic infestation". I would like to be clear that I fully expected this book to be written from a Catholic perspective, and I appreciate learning about demonology from that perspective. Nevertheless, I did not expect it to be so unabashedly dogmatic. This has been a real turn-off for me on the entire perspective. If anyone has recommendations of demonology books written more professionally I would love to hear them.
There's a lot of knowledge in this book, if you believe in that sort of thing. It's interesting to learn about the Christian (and surrounding religions) mythos. With that being said, it's presented in a way that is a matter of fact, and since I'm not a believer it kind of drew me out. It isn't a story, more like a reference book that reads a bit more friendly than an encyclopedia. It's worth having on your bookshelf, but I doubt I'd be going to it without a specific purpose.
This was a well written and thought out text book of occult definitions. As a Homicide Investigator and Investigator of occult related crimes, it is necessary to be armed with the proper definitions as not to be confused with outdated or "slang" definitions which can get you in to trouble. I strongly suggest reading the entire series and this will come together for the serious student.
This book was super informative but I did not take it too seriously. it was fun hearing and reading these things. That's pretty much all. I do not plan on being some sort of demonologist but knowing this information shared to me from this book was not only eye opening but informative.. ya never know!
Totally NOT what I was expecting. It started out good, but then switched abruptly to nothing more than a dictionary of occult definitions. Wasn't expensive but still not worth the time or money.
