There are parts of this book that I really liked, others I think definitely need to be pursued, then some are just really need to be developed on for me.

It is continued more or less a few months after the last book ended. The parts I liked (surprise) are the fights and battle scenes. Billy Wong excels at these. However he last writing describes perfectly the camaraderie, rivalry, and the bond of friendship/brotherhood between fighters. These are the best part of the book.

The parts I thought needed development are pursuing is I am not sure who the main character in this book is at the beginning I though it was going to be Rupert, and a certain returning character was to be a mentor till they stole the spotlight. Then many of the side characters managed to take bigger roles. The think is almost every character in this book could probably (and should probably) have their own book. I don’t know if this is the idea, but I weaken this book. The character development is good (forged through combat), but I was given very little character history, point of fact how the two tiniest characters are actually the physically strongest? One I know from the last book, but the other is a mystery, and one side character is wasted as they are not a fighter.

An ok to goodish book 3.5 stars. Really to introduce the I am guessing the next generation of up and coming warriors, though most of these characters are only a couple of years younger then their mentors. The fights and knowledge of martial arts techniques and theory is exceptional. Though these guys shrug off shots that would kill just about anybody else. This could be read as a stand-alone book, but it is the third in the series. Nice characters but I wish I knew more about them. More of a filler book setting up things to come.

My main obstacle with this book was how boring it was. It was based on a group of kids in some sort of school, of which the main purpose of in the kids lives was unclear. The author did mention a few times however, that teaching fighting skills was a secondary venture, so perhaps it was all about a standard curriculum of maths, science and language? Who knows. Either way, the fighting that takes place in the novel overtook anything else that the school may have been about. The fighting itself was also pretty anticlimactic for the most part. A lot of the fights took place between the students who had challenged each other based on ego and then when they lost became friends with each other. Even the fights that happened against more arduous opponents were anticlimactic and sometimes hard to follow as so many characters got involved in them and so many different fight moves intertwined with other characters. Sometimes it was easier to skip over the fighting narrative to the aftermath of it than to read the action scenes themselves.
I did like the concept of the book, and found the idea to be fairly original. But the author seemed to change his mind too often during the writing in this book making it seem as though the evolution of the characters and the trials they faced went in circles, never really progressing past their introduction. All together it was a dull read and I was grateful that it was a shorter book, had it have been any longer and I don't think I could have finished it.

Battle Schooled! (Chronicles of the Floating Continent, #3) by Billy Wong

Young Rupert is sent to the Ostuh University by his parents. There he meets some new friends. These talented young people are fearless warriors, Rupert will learn a lot from them. When people begin to get brutally murdered the group of warriors are determined to fix the problem, and rid the University of all that is evil.

A fantastic story with plenty of action, and very likable young heroes. I really liked having three young female heroines. Charlene, meg and Peggy really know how to kick butt. They are fearless, and each has their own special technique. Watching the interaction when they all band together was non stop, intense page turning suspense. I highly recommendBattle Schooled! to Young Adult and Adult readers who love a great action filled adventure. A definite must read.

They meet at college, then murder strikes and they come together with the best of their talents to stop the killings. Lots of action and adventure, twists, and excellent characters. Together they are unstoppable!

Battle Schooled is a fast-paced story about friendship and bonding over what makes us different, and fighting. Lots of fighting. The story revolves around a number of YA students from different countries and ways of life, who don't always get along but have to join forces when someone starts murdering students. It's unclear what type of school this is, as the kids spend most of their time pummelling each other and planning tournaments. On the other hand, the curriculum includes combat lessons and students are allowed to carry weapons. The plot is a bit unfocussed in places, wandering from subject to subject, especially in the first half. Once the murders start, the story comes together better. There's lots of humour with witty repartee and ripostes, characters developing their signature moves, and unveiling of hidden talents. Overall, it was a quick, enjoyable read.

Summary: Combat, friends, murder. School can be difficult.
