His experiences led him to embrace communism, a commitment that would shape much of his later poetry and political activism. His collection España en el corazón (Spain in Our Hearts, 1937) reflected his deep sorrow over the war and marked a shift toward politically engaged writing.
Returning to Chile, he was elected to the Senate in 1945 as a member of the Communist Party. However, his vocal opposition to the repressive policies of President Gabriel Gonzalez Videla led to his exile. During this period, he traveled through various countries, including Argentina, Mexico, and the Soviet Union, further cementing his status as a global literary and political figure. It was during these years that he wrote Canto General (1950), an epic work chronicling Latin American history and the struggles of its people.
Neruda’s return to Chile in 1952 marked a new phase in his life, balancing political activity with a prolific literary output. He remained a staunch supporter of socialist ideals and later developed a close relationship with Salvador Allende, who appointed him as Chile’s ambassador to France in 1970. The following year, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, recognized for the scope and impact of his poetry. His later years were marked by illness, and he died in 1973, just days after the military coup that overthrew Allende. His legacy endures, not only in his vast body of work but also in his influence on literature, political thought, and the cultural identity of Latin America.

En realidad es 3.5.
Fue una hermosa experiencia, sin embargo, sigo indiferente hacia la poesía. Aunque algo logró este poemario.
La poesía siempre me ha parecido un conjunto de palabras rebuscadas y rimbombantes, que, con el afán de hacerlas rimar, se opaca el sentimiento con el que lo escribieron ¡Que equivocado estaba!(eso espero)
En ese tomo, Neruda nos cuenta una historia con cada poema. Eso es en mi opinión un poeta que vale la pena, lo digo consciente de lo poco que se de poesía, pero si hay más poemarios como este me gustaría saberlo.
Mi poema favorito fue sin duda el número 20.

Was thinking of reviewing a translation of Neruda, because I don't like them.....for some reason Neruda attracts incredibly pretentious bastards as translators & I hate them.....keep it to Spanish, learn Spanish then read Neruda. All other Spanish writers do have good translators, I've admired them, I've really carefully followed Spanish & English texts to see what I think of them, they're all good - except when it comes to Neruda.

Veinte poemas de amor y una canción desesperada de Pablo Neruda. La verdad la poesía es uno de los géneros menos explorados por mi parte, tengo que reconocer que este poemario me trae mucho recuerdos de mi época de instituto, ya que cuando leí el poema número quince, me gusta cuando callas... me quede en shock, fue una sensación difícil de describir. Ya que este poemario recoge algunos poemas con sentimientos y pasiones muy profundos.

porque como persona tendría muchas cosas de las que penar, la primera por violador.
Este libro andaba por casa junto a otros célebres. Sus palabras no me conmovieron ni emocionaron. No sé cómo explicarlo pero no me identifico con su dolor (sin un prejuicio porque no conocía sus confesiones).
Efectivamente NO recomiendo; en todo caso, leed la confesión de la violacion a su sirvienta, no vaya a ser que vayamos a blanquear a violadores

“Eso es todo. A lo lejos alguien canta. A lo lejos.
Mi alma no se contenta con haberla perdido”.
Dudo que alguien no haya oído acerca de Pablo Neruda, pues, ¿quién se resiste a sus poemas? Son un esplendor, una joya para la literatura. Fue agradable cada uno de sus poemas, es más, incentiva a seguir leyendo sus otras obras.

Dudo que alguien no haya oído acerca de Pablo Neruda, pues, ¿quién se resiste a sus poemas? Son un esplendor, una joya para la literatura. Fue agradable cada uno de sus poemas, es más, incentiva a seguir leyendo sus otras obras.

El poema 20 “puedo escribir los versos más tristes esta noche...” siempre ha sido y será de mis poemas favoritos, desde la primera vez que lo leí hasta el día de hoy sigue transportándome a esa noche, grande Neruda.
