I remember Ms. Fitzpatrick having a TV show on Animal Planet or some other educational cable network, but not actually watching the show, likely because I was a skeptical teenager who thought the 'animal psychic' bordered on the unbelievable/fake. After reading this book though, I do get the feeling she has some sort of ability to connect with animals that other humans do not, or at least have not mastered. At first glance, the title of the book would probably turn the skeptics off immediately, but I was willing to give it a shot and realized that the colon in the title is important, as the book is 75% focused on the part of the title before the colon, and only 25% on what is after the colon.
Fitzpatrick's stories of times when her connection with the animals helped to solve a problem in the animals' home environment or just get gossip from a talkative animal in a large group were interesting and thought provoking. She states that the animals told her details that their humans had not mentioned to her, but when she offered up these nuggets of information to the owners, they were 100% true. I appreciate that she is using her talents to improve the lives of animals and help exasperated humans whose other alternatives would be to be rid of the animal in some way.
As for whether readers can do the same as she can, my opinion is still out on that. I'll admit to trying it out, staring my dog in the eye at night after work, attempting to convince him that I am not hungry and thus not getting the snack he is hoping for, primarily so that he can have some too, that if he's hungry, there's a bowl of dog food available. Although he does eventually go away and stop begging, I'm not convinced it's because I've made some telepathic connection rather than simply him being 13 years old and tired at 12 or 1am and deciding on his own that sleep beats waiting for food that might not come. His sleeping in the vicinity of our refrigerator at the moment tells me that he hasn't quite given up on the prospect of some food and should I decide to have a change of plans, he will be right there to reap the benefit.

Suspend your disbelief in the "hokey" telepathic communication that folks like Sonya are known for as you read this book. I wish that I had read it years ago, at the height of my animal rescue/foster career, when I was housing and rehoming multiple animals at a time. Even if you don't believe that the animals "told" Sonya their backgrounds and their reasons for their actions, her explanations and suggestions for corrections make sense. And her words of wisdom at the end really touched me. If nothing else, I now feel guilty that I have had to retire from rescuing and there are still so many shelter animals that need [someone like] me.

I met Sonya many years ago, when she was filming her Animal Planet series. One of my dogs "talked" to her. She came up with things that only the dog should have known, but her staff had done extensive screening of our family before we received the invitation to the taping. Did Bubba confide? Or was the staff good at their job? We weren't "interesting" enough to make the final cut and be included in an episode (although we can be seen in the audience when the camera pans). I think my healthy dose of skepticism may have had a lot to do with that. Regardless, Sonya has an important message and this book goes a long way towards delivering it.

I loved this book, it was very entertaining and inspired my own writing of a story called "The Unseen Truth" which is based off true events. I got this book after having a moment with a horse I knew that I wasn't sure if it was just me or not. After reading this book I am sure it wasn't just me. I learned a lot from this book, and if you believe your pet can read your thoughts this is a perfect book to get because you will learn something about your pet by reading it. It is also a very inspirational book.

A very interesting read that also is a desperate plea for more compassion towards animals.

Mostly the stories are quite entertaining, notably the turtle that requested a goldfish companion.

My personal take, though, is that most readers are probably already animal lovers. I know there are a lot of bad pet owners out there, but it seems like a lot of her talking points on pet ownership seem like common sense, especially for those most likely to pick up a book like this.

I don’t think this book was what I had hoped for. Reading these medium/psychic books only makes me lose belief that it’s possible.
That being said, I do stand by her advice of taking care of animals & appreciate her efforts in speaking up for animals.

I enjoyed learning Sonya's story and how she picks up the energy from the animals and can tell their stories. Sonya's chapter on learning to be more open to what your pet is trying to communicate to you is invaluable. Using the last few pages of the book to bring awareness to animal cruelty, especially after retelling her glory in wearing a lynx coat for years seems off the mark - she doesn't mention all the make-up that has for years been tested on animals, which she undoubtedly wore during her modeling career. Animal cruelty needs to be brought to light, but targeting rodeos, circuses and carriage driving in New York City seems rather biased. All of these relies on animals and their well being to make them any money. I don't feel that the animals are being exploited. There will be good and bad animal ownership/guardians in any industry. Many pet stores and groomers are corrupt.

An excellent book by Animal Planet's "The Pet Psychic." I love her amazing her stories of communicating with pets and wild or feral animals. I also love how she encourages everyone to develop their own telepathic skills and provides clear instructions on how to do so. An excellent and easy read that is important for anyone who has a pet or wants to understand animals better.

Love the idea of communicating on an even deeper level with my 4-legged kids and all the creatures that I come into contact with at work. Very interesting read on short stories of her experiences working with and helping animals.

Fascinating read for any animal lover! Who knew that our pet friends would worry about the fact that they are the only pet in the house who has a plastic bowl, or that we threw away their favorite ball? I'll never view my animal friends the same way again!

Learned a lot about animal behavior. Don't know if this is psychic or just good behavior reading.

very interesting; some good insights into animal behavior - and I hope she's right about what happens to our pets after they leave our world.
