Brock Lassiter has it all: good looks, good health, and the best job in the world. As a defenseman for the Las Vegas Sidewinders hockey team, he’s the luckiest bastard on earth. If only he could stop getting in trouble. One more screw-up and the team won’t renew his contract. He needs to clean up his act, but he's not interested in a ball and chain—even if it comes in the form of the woman he’s been fantasizing about for years.

Hollywood starlet Ashleigh Hunter is living the dream with a role on one of the hottest shows on television. Her life would be complete if only she could adopt the sweet orphan girl she’s fallen in love with, but a single 25-year-old woman who spends the majority of her time in the spotlight may not be able to get custody.

When Brock and Ashleigh find themselves accidentally married, they balk. There’s no denying the chemistry between them, but a marriage of convenience? Who does that anymore? Apparently, they do—and it’s not what either of them are expecting.

3.5 sweet and sexy stars

This is a sweet and sexy sports/celebrity romance with a drunken Vegas wedding, a marriage of convenience, and a heartfelt, functional love story that takes both characters by surprise. A whole heap of my favourite tropes all together in one book, and I enjoyed this one.

This is book #7 in the Las Vegas Sidewinders series, but it can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read any of the other books in this series, and I was easily able to immerse myself in the world of these characters and see how they all fit together.

Brock Lassiter is a defenseman for the Las Vegas Sidewinders NHL team. He has a reputation for being a bit of a wild one, and his contract renewal is under threat unless he can clean up his act. Ashleigh Hunter has overcome a difficult childhood to achieve her dream, and is an actress on one of the hottest shows on television. She’s fostering an eight year old girl, Bella, and is trying to adopt her, but there are a lot of hurdles in her way.

Brock and Ashleigh’s best friends have recently hooked up (in a previous book), and when they are set up on a sort-of double date, sparks fly. But Ashleigh has had bad experiences with men and she’s insecure and wary of all things sexual, not that that stops her from showing her interest, and when Brock returns it, they agree to meet up again. Everything is going great until they get drunk one night and end up married with no recollection of how it all came about. But rather than get an annulment, they figure they may as well use their situation to their advantage, especially as it will help Ashleigh’s cause with the adoption – and of course Brock realises it will improve his image as well. Plus there is a genuine attraction between them that both are keen to explore.

This is a really cute set up. I was genuinely surprised at how things progressed between Brock and Ashleigh. Their honesty with each other about what they are feeling is really sweet, and I really liked their willingness to jump into a relationship and see how things go. Brock, in particular, showed his sweet side early on with his willingness to be there for Ashleigh.

“Why are you doing this? We barely know each other and I’ve already pulled you into twenty different clusterfucks. Most guys would cut and run”
He brought her hand up to his lips and softly kissed it. “I’m not most guys,” he replied. “But I couldn’t live with myself if I walked away. You and Bella need me, and like it not, I’m involved now.”

“You’re not alone in this,” he said softly. “I’ll be with you every step of the way.”

But that’s not to say he’s doing it all just to help Ashleigh out. He wants her, badly, but even with her sexual hangups he shows infinite patience and gentleness, being there for her and working with her to overcome her issues, and it’s a great mix of sweetness and, eventually, steamy, dirty sexy time.

“Tell me you want me to make you beg,” he growled … “Just say the words and I’ll make you forget everything you ever thought you knew about sex.”

And as they find themselves falling for each other, they both begin to question whether their marriage of convenience can become something a whole lot more.

“Is that enough? … The physical attraction? Do we have enough to make this work?”
“I don’t know,” he admitted. “But we have enough to try. Don’t we?”

I enjoyed this story. As I said, I was surprised at how it all happened for them, but I appreciated the gentleness of the romance, and I loved the openness between them. They have a lot of issues to overcome, and the drama is well written to help build the relationship without becoming too OTT.

It did take me a while to warm up to the chemistry between them though. They were certainly feeling it, but it took me a bit longer to get on board. I initially had some issues with Ashleigh which didn’t help - - but as the book progressed, I started to feel it more, and I was happy with how it all played out.

The epilogue provides a great ending, and I finished this one with a smile on my face.

3.5 stars.

Kat Mizera scores with BROCK, the seventh book in the Las Vegas Sidewinders series. NHL defenseman Brock Lassiter and actress Ashleigh Hunter did not remember getting married on their date. However, the situation could work in both their favor. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult audience.

Kat Mizera does a great job with her character development and plot. Ashleigh is a noble character. I like that she wants to adopt Bella Reardon. She doesn’t fit the stereotype of Hollywood starlet. Brock is a good guy who always seems to get in trouble. He has no interest in relationships after having his heart broken by the only woman he ever loved. The couple has a lot in common, like being raised by their single mothers. They have amazing chemistry.

The plot was believable and heartfelt. The couple face numerous obstacles, including working in different states and wanting to adopt Bella. The story was well-written and interesting for start to finish. The ending was well concluded. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

The Sidewinders are back…

I love this over the top, drama to the nth degree series and couldn’t have been more excited for the latest instalment. Brock and Ashleigh both have reasons to shy away from serious relationships. They have cause to be wary, but watching them both rail against it, while slowly but surely, getting pulled in, was music to my eyes!

“This felt normal, and she loved it, which scared the crap out of her.”

Brock is a professional hockey player clinging to his career after having a run of bad choices splashed across every news headline. Staying on the straight and narrow meant no drama, no drinking and nothing more than a one night stand. That has worked for him but Ashleigh, a beautiful, talented actress, is going to make him question what he really wants from life. Ashleigh, on the other hand, knows exactly what she wants and is very sure Brock won’t be able to give it to her. Queue some instant chemistry, a lot of alcohol and a night on their own and both are reeling and wondering what the he** happened….

I really enjoyed this story. It had a different feel than the “usual” Sidewinder stories as the drama was there in a more understated way. Well, finding themselves married after a night of revelry is a wee bit dramatic. Okay, a lot dramatic given where each of them was in their lives. There was a lot of back and forth and each encounter allowed me to understand more about each of them. By the feel good ending, I was solidly in Brock-leigh’s corner and back to “waiting for more” mode!

Brock (Las Vegas Sidewinders) by Kat Mizera
What would you do for love? Love of sport and a connection of the heart are key factors that Ms. Mizera takes on in her latest Sidewinders. Intense emotion leads to heartwarming moments and humorous antics for the actress and the hockey star. Love brings them together, but not for each other. Hockey is Brock's mistress of choice. The adrenaline rush, adoring fans and bad choices feed his ego and land him on the brink of losing it all. Ashleigh is a woman in the spotlight. Her dream has always been to be a star. Now that she's accomplished her career aspirations, she longs for more. A life beyond the bright lights and big dreams. Family. Her heart belongs to a little girl that she longs to make her own, but life in the headlines is making that an impossible acquisition. What she needs is a miracle, what she gets is anything but. Brock is full of precious moments. Whether crying from gut wrenching laughter or anxiously awaiting happily ever after, Kat Mizera keeps a tight reign on a heart.

This is my least favorite of the series so far. Part of it was that I don't remember Brock ever being talked about until he was featured in this book. Part of it is that both Brook and Ashleigh drove me nuts with their lack of communication. Sure a lot of that was due to how fast things moved with them and the separation, but everything about them was 1 step forward 5 steps back, with the same argument over and over. By the time this one ended, I was just glad to be done reading the book.

Better to love than love without

This book could be read as a standalone. BUT, I would read them in order. I think you get a better look at all the characters. Amd can understand more of what is going on. This book is about Brock he is a hockey player on the Las Vegas Sidewinders hockey team. He has had a few issues over the years that have left him in some hot water with the association. Looking to clean up his image so he can continue to play. He meets Ashleigh. She is an actress and works with Rachel. Ashleigh is a girl with a troubled past. Looking to give back now that she is financially able. She is trying to adopt an eight year old girl but, who would allow a twenty five year old single woman to do it. This book is a moving book. It keeps you wrapped in till the end.

The quality of story telling, character building and scene setting is excellent and would normally push this book into a 5 star read. Overall I liked the characters in this book, whilst their jobs weren't 'everyday' their thoughts, feelings and actions felt very real. They both had their faults and imperfections too. I enjoyed the story and read into the early hours to finish it. However there were a couple of things that just stopped it achieving the full 5 stars, which I'll come to later.

It's good how this story interweaves with other books, having enough detail to read as a stand-alone but without too many spoilers. Whilst this is an ice-hockey based story, the plot centres much more around the relationship between Brock, Ashleigh and Bella. I was more than OK with that because the relationship is the most important part of any romance book.

Ashleigh is desperate to adopt Bella, but seems happy to leave her with a nanny or relative at the drop of a hat. This just didn't work for me. Bella didn't come across as Ashleigh's #1 priority, which made her seem a little flakey. Plus she was happy (?) to leave Bella with her mother (Ruby) and yet Ashleigh had, until that point, portrayed Ruby in quite a poor light.

I also felt the need for more detail on how, in the epilogue, Angel had ended up where she was. It was a loose end that didn't weave neatly into the rest of the story. Thankfully it was also such a tiny thread as to be barely noticeable.

Fortunately, I found the vast majority of the story to be really gripping and very enjoyable to read. Brock and Ashleigh both arrived in the marriage with some unresolved baggage, which led to a good deal of angst and soul searching on both parts. Sometimes this indecisiveness can pull a story down and make it annoying, but not in this case. The way the author wrote this really put you in their heads, making their (sometimes silly) decisions understandable. I loved how they worked both individually and as a team to overcome the barriers they faced. I totally felt and believed the deep connection that they had with each other.

This is a story of finding a compromise by communicating. It's also about discovering what we think we want isn't always what we need and it's OK to change things because of that.

Las Vegas Sidewinders: Brock by Kat Mizera
Another fantastic installment of the Las Vegas Sidewinder series. We have grown to love Kat’s writing style and she never ceases to amaze this reader with her unique twist on classic romance. Even though we know there will be a happy ending (at least we hope so) the journey through the pages to get there is where the magic happens.
This latest installment of the series is standalone however I would recommend reading all the books in the series. You may ask why….the reason is simple. The Sidewinder organization is a close net group of players that are more of a family then just teammates. To understand the dynamic of how the team reacts to situations in the series reading each book provides the players background and story. Each of them are unique and special but when they all come together they are unstoppable.
We get to meet Brock Lassiter and Ashleigh Hunter in this book. Each of them has a past that could derail any future that they have. They both have decided they are not into relationships or even know how to navigate one. One night in Vegas changes everything!
Brock is known as a bad boy and has been in enough trouble that his career could be in jeopardy. He has sworn off relationships after his last break up and is just trying to stay under the media radar. The focus for his future has been hockey.
Ashleigh is an actress on a hit TV show and is making a name for herself. We know she has sworn off relationships but is struggling with how to move forward into the future. She has been trying to help sisters she met in a homeless shelter. The road has not been easy and the correct path is not always easy.
This was so much fun to read. There were times when I wanted to just smack both of them upside the head and ask WTF. You will laugh and be frustrated all within a few pages. You will just need to read to understand my thoughts. Brook and Ashleigh are two peas in a pod and a joy to get to know.

The h was trying to adopt an 8 year old girl which I found ridiculous because she never had time for her. The H and h were constantly taking breaks and trips away from Bella (the little girl) and honestly it didn’t seem like they had the time or maturity to be parents. The h was constantly travelling to see the H WITHOUT Bella combined with her incredibly busy career meant that the child was constantly with the nanny.

Brock (H) was very problematic. He constantly undervalued the h’s career and saw himself as more important. In general he was very self centred with no consideration for the woman he supposedly loved. He pressured her to quit acting many times, completely disregarding the fact that they’ve only known each-other/been married for a few months and after being homeless in the past she felt a strong need to be independent and not have to rely on anybody else.

He was continuously angry about the lack of time they spent together due to their busy careers but it never even crossed his mind to retire from hockey which would solve their issue since he wouldn’t be travelling for 8 months out of the year anymore (not to mention that he was already at risk of being traded due to his poor choices in the past, whilst the h had a thriving acting career and she was quickly gaining fame, and yet SHE was the one he expected to sacrifice)

In the end the h was the one who ended up taking a step back from her acting career whilst he continued playing hockey as if nothing in his life changed.
Honestly I think the ending would’ve been much better if he chose to retire early from hockey for the sake of their family, it would have shown character development and growth from the self-centred, selfish man he was and continued to be.

I’ve read a few other books from this series and enjoyed them, so it was a bit shocking how much I disliked this one.

Brock: Las Vegas Sidewinders (Book 8) – When stars collide, they ignite!! (5 stars)

Brock is the eighth novel in Kat Mizera’s Las Vegas Sidewinders series and this story captivates you right from the beginning. As with all her novels, it is endearing and complex with a little bit of sweet and a whole lot of sexy!!! If you had the opportunity to read the last book (or any of her novels), this one is even better and how could it not be when the characters are well thought out and engaging, not to mention that some of our favorite hockey players from the series are brought in throughout the storyline.

Brock Lassiter has it all, yet some actions from his past currently haunt him professional and personally. Things have to change, but even he isn’t sure what that is. There enters Hollywood starlet Ashleigh Hunter where there is so much more to her behind glitz, glamour and Hollywood allure. She is in the process of adopting a little girl, Bella, and all her actions are placed in the spotlight and scrutinized for all to see including her impromptu Vegas marriage to Brock. When stars collide, they ignite and Kat Mizera takes us on that journey from marriage of convenience where they battle their own insecurities and doubts to a full-blown amazing everlasting love affair!

Once again Kat absolutely scores with this novel and this is quite possibly her best work yet. It was fun, flirty, sexy and a truly engaging romance novel. You will not be disappointed, and I recommend that you read the whole series. I just can’t wait for the next one in the series!

***ARC Provided by the Author and L. Woods PR***

There were parts of this book that I really enjoyed, and there were parts that seemed a little off to me.
Oddly, they were pretty evenly spaced throughout the whole book.

Brock and Ashleigh meet because one of Brock's teammates is dating one of Ashleigh's friends, and the relationship and the attraction worked for me, they seemed real...at first. But, the accidental marriage never felt totally right for me. There were comments made by other characters that seem to imply that neither of them would act like this...so I was never sure if I was supposed to think that this was in character, or completely out of it for them.

There was a really quick turnaround of one of the characters at the end of the book that also didn't work for me. It isn't a major part of the plot, by that point, but it was off.

The book had it's good points and it also had some places where the balance of the characters and story, the plot and what the characters needed to do to make the plot work, just didn't quite mesh.

I didn't totally dislike the story, and it was enjoyable, there were just parts that seemed a little unrealistic, enough so that it took me out of the story.

I have never read a book by Kat Mizera and was so glad to have the chance, loved it. I would say that this is a series, most say that this is a standalone. so at times I felt lost or confused, that a piece of the puzzle was missing, I love series, you can see that in my love of books, put me with a bunch of books to read that are about a bunch of hottie sportie guys I am so there!!! so maybe in my humble opinion you might wish to read others before you jump into book #7 ... like I did. but I am one who does enjoy a ton of details, so I would be the one who would prefer to start from the beginning, but that is just me, if that is not something that bugs you that is totally cool. What it means for me personally is that I can go grabbed up even more from Kat. I can't wait to do that. I does encourage me to know more, I love that. The chemistry is real between Brock & Ashleigh and I really enjoyed this read, it was a quick couldn't put it down kind of read for me. loved it. i do appreciate a HEA ending. ( ;

The entire Sidewinders series and Brock is an on the edge of your seat read. You will fall for each character and their brand of loving their women while waiting for the other shoe to drop! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic's Read

Brock is a deliciously favorite character in the series! It does not hurt that he is a smoking hot bearded hockey player! Brock and Ashleigh long for each other to a point of need! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic's Read

Brock and Ashleigh have found themselves in a accidental marriage or convenience! He needs to stay out of trouble and a wife can do that for him, she needs a husband so that she can adopt the foster daughter that she currently has custody of and loves deeply! They both agree but they never banked on Love or Forever. Can they make this work? #Sidewinderscanmakeanythinghappen

Kat Mizera has managed to also introduce to more of the teammates from the Sidewinders team! I cannot wait for their stories! #VLAD #IAN #YUMMY

I would have like this story a lot more than I did had the kid not been involved, which is very unusual for me.

The H and the h just should not be parents, at least not at the point of life they were at. The h was trying to adopt a child and it seemed like she never had time for her. The H and h were always needing "time away" or a "break" from the kid. She was ALWAYS flying out to see the H WITHOUT the kid and always leaving her with the nanny(I keep saying the kid bc I don't remember her name lol) She would have been much better off with a family who actually has TIME for her.

Sidewinders #7

Ashleigh Hunter is 25 and an actress on one of the hottest shows on TV. Her dream is to have a family. She is trying to adopt a 7 year old little girl, Bella who's an orphan after her parents died and her 19 yr old sister is having problems raising her. Having the money and success should make it easy but not being married doesn't help.

Brock Lassiter is a defenseman with the Las Vegas Sidewinders hockey team. He has gotten himself into trouble several times and the team management isn't happy about it. They want him to clean up his act or his contract won't be renewed. They want him to settle down but he's not interested.

Ashleigh and Brock meet through friends and hit it off. But he knows she has a daughter and isn't ready for anything more. After a date night and having a few too many drinks they end up accidentally married. So instead of getting it annulled they decide to stay married since it should help both of their cases.

They have a lot of chemistry between them but she has some issues they need to work through. What happens when things start changing between them and Bella gets attached?

This is the seventh book of this series and it can be read as a standalone. Brock is a hockey player who is at risk of not being resigned due to his off of the ice behavior. Ashleigh is an actress who is trying to adopt her foster daughter. Neither is looking for the other, but one night out together turns into what could be forever.

There were parts of this book that I absolutely loved. Brock and Ashleigh were very likeable which makes it easy to pull for their relationship. They both needed each other for more than their reputations and really did not realize it. They truly fell for each other and deep down wanted both their relationship to last.

There were also parts of this book that made me crazy. Their communication was horrible! Yes, I know that they literally just met and the timeline of their relationship was extreme, but still. There were so many situations that were frustrating because of it.

Overall I enjoyed this story, but remained frustrated through most of it because of their lack of ability to open up to each other. Once they did, it was great, but by the time it happened the book was over and I was left wishing I had more of it. ⭐⭐⭐

3.5 stars.

This was an entertaining read.

In here we meet Brock and Ashleigh, two people with only friends in common. They have a great night together and then they wake up realizing that they had a little bit more fun than what they thought, lol.

Anyway, this isn’t such a bad thing, since it actually works in their benefit to stay like this. Ashleigh needs to show stability if she wants to adopt Bella (a little girl who REALLY needs stability in her life); and Brock needs to show he can have a serious relationship.

These two were frustrating at times, but it was fun getting to know them and watch how the heck they make this work. There were ups and downs, as well as some drama, but all worked just great in the story.

All in all, a fun read. This is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone.

Popping back over to this series after reading the first three books in the Inferno series almost felt tame, a palate cleanser.

Bad boy, Las Vegas Sidewinders hockey defenseman, Brock Lassiter, joins his best friend Vlad and his girlfriend, television actress Rachel, and her best friend and co-star, Ashleigh Hunter. Brock and Ashleigh find themselves hitting it off and having a great time. And a lot of alcohol.

Waking up the next morning, next to each other, fully clothed, they find out that they had gotten married in a crazy, drunken moment.

He needs to clean up his man-whoring, drunken image or lose his contract with the Sidewinders. She is a young, single actress trying to adopt her 8yo foster daughter. What better way to help each other out by staying married to each other. Interestingly with this story, Brock is the one who fights to stay married, while Ashleigh seems to second guess their relationship with each other. Definitely an enjoyable read.

Ashleigh is trying to adopt Angel's seven year old sister, Bella. Their parents died and Angel is only nineteen, but she's got in with a bad crowd. Ashleigh is already Bella's foster mother. Brock plays hockey for the Sidewinders, he's been playing too much outside the game and attracting the wrong kind of publicity. Ashleigh is an actress on a show with her best friend, Rachel, who is going out with Vlad, who also plays for the Sidewinders.
They go out on a dinner date and somehow get married, which actually is a good thing for them both, he because it looks as though he's settling down and her because it makes a more stable relationship to adopt Bella.
Can they work out a pretend marriage?

A great read from Kat

Family Matters

Brock and Ashley didn’t plan to get married but waking up to find out they were married was something they needed to deal with. Were they really that drunk last night? Guess the answer was yes.

It was a little backwards, trying to get to know each other after they were already married. I loved how Brock threw himself into the relationship, going so slowly with Ashley. They both had a lot of issues from past relationships but her fears included a fear of sexual relations and Brock was willing to go slowly to ease her fears. I loved watching these two trying to learn to trust again, it was just so sweet.

This is a different 'waking up married' story. The characters' issues are a bit complicated, but very realistic. Both Brock & Ashleigh have been burned by love in the past, so trust issues also make for a more complex situation.

This is the first book in the series that I've read, and I already like the vibe between the Sidewinders players. Brock will definitely steal your heart. There's a lot of sweetness, forgiveness & even second chances in this book in addition to the love story.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

Brock, book 7 in Las Vegas Sidewinders series was my first book I have read by Kat Mizera. Kat is a new author to me and I have to say I am hooked and can not wait to read the rest of the books from the series. All the books from Las Vegas Sidewinders series can be read as a standalone, but why would you do that? Another great read by Kat Mizera

Brock is constantly getting himself into trouble, the team basically has told him clean up your act or you are gone. Ashleigh is trying to adopt a child nothing is going right and her friends jokingly tell her to get a husband to help. One drunk night in Vegas and Brock and Ashleigh's lives are changed. Will this just be a convenience for them both to get what they need done or will they fall in love?

Brock and Ashleigh make a great couple, but a marriage dare turned marriage of convenience between this hockey bad boy & Hollywood starlet is not an easy road to navigate. With an adoption on the table for Ashleigh and contract renewal on the table for Brock, a screw-up could mean the end of a dream for both of them.
Take a wild ride with this newest installment in the Sidewinders saga and enjoy!

This book was so good! Brock’s character was a combination of alpha and tender. He often times was clueless as only a man can be. Ashleigh just wants to adopt her foster daughter. Nothing is going smoothly for her. When she meets Brock her life becomes a roller coaster wide. This book is angsty and at times very funny.
