It's funny how as a child I used to ridicule my grandmother for choosing home/herbal remedies over pills and prescription medication to fight her many battles with multiple diseases before finally succumbing to cancer. I always considered myself to be a very "no nonsense" kind of guy who sided with science when it came to health related topics, but [looking back at it] I now realize that watching Doogie Howser, M.D. after school did not make me the pharmaceutical aficionado I thought I was.
I still am a big fan of science, but today I can't ignore the multiple plant-based drugs that can help people with a wide range of physical and psychological problems. Obviously we have cannabis that can make life easier for people living with autism, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis (MS) or bitchiness. Cannabidiol (CBD) may even hold the key to eventually curing cancer, for fuck's sake. Then there's dimethyltryptamine (DMT) that can do wonders for people suffering from depression or facing their mortality. Finally, ibogaine is a proven weapon against opiate addiction and may have application in dealing with mental disorders such as PTSD that plagues so many active military service veterans... or catholic boarding school graduates.
OK, weed, pot, cannabis, marijuana or whatever you may call it is getting harder and harder to deny. The floodgates have opened and it's only a matter of time when it becomes legal on a federal level in the United States. Even though Big Pharma and it's lobbyists still find corrupt ways to keep it a Schedule I drug, I'm not worried about cannabis: eventual legalization is inevitable. Simply put it this way, if you're an american and you want to get through the next four years of your life mentally unscathed, some days you'll just need to be higher than the Empire State Trump Tower.
I'm more worried about the lesser known drugs like DMT and ibogaine, because due to their potency, unlike pot - these aren't really popular recreationally **Unless we're talking about people who's yearly vacations are scheduled around Burning Man.** And since they are not as enjoyable as pot, they don't have as many "advocates" (people who are aware of their benefits and are trying to spread that awareness). God bless The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, but I would love to see THIS book have a million ratings on Goodreads, considering the numbers of drug addicts our society bosts. If this book was published a couple of decades ago to a lot more "fanfare", maybe I could have spared myself and my family more than 10 years of hell dealing with my brother's heroin addiction. Fun times.

Do want!

To the point

Great first book on the subject with some very insightful points about psychedelics more broadly. A little short but good content

Very informative, at least for one who has little to no insight of the affects of natural neuro-remedies.
