Murder, sabotage, a talking mouse and a high-school reunion: life is getting busy for part-time journalist and full-time Slip Witch Harlow Torrent. When the family businesses come under attack, the Torrent Witches gear up for war… except a little Slip magic problem gets out of hand. Is it the work of the diabolical Coldwell family or a dark force intent on mayhem? Book #9 of the Torrent Witches Cozy Mysteries series.
This was probably the most intense thriller out of the series so far. I just finished listened to this book on audible.
I was not expecting it to be so crazy thrilling and suspenseful at moments. Harlow is thrown from a simple mystery to like full blown cinematic event towards the end of the book. I like how Harlow went back to being a journalist. The only thing that didnt sit right with me is in the previous books she started writing a book but this entire book she barely mentioned or written her book.
I would have to say out of the 9 books I listened to so far, this book was probably the most suspenseful and really got me invested in. Just because I didnt feel like it was slow start to get to the point. It was a constant mystery and information gathering.
Definitely recommend this book. Now off to the last book and hoping the ending of this book is explained in the finale.
The Lost Witch stole Jack!!!! I can't believe how addicted I am to this series now, I actually feel gutted that Jack is gone, and I can't wait to read the final book in the series to see how it all ends! I love how this has slowly ramped up in intensity, I love how Harlow's mind keeps being erased and how she knows something is wrong, we have been getting hints all the way along about something evil lurking just beyond the shadows. These books are so much fun, they aren't high literature but they have written well plot lines and get increasingly fun as the series has progressed.

If you've jumped into this series - go back! It'll be worth it.
It's more witchy mystery than a fluffy cozy mystery. The family dynamics are hilarious. Relationships, adorable.
And the story builds in each book. So while some things will see a conclusion, there are elements woven across the series you'll miss out on if you start later on.
The Torrent witches family businesses are being sabotaged, they are slowly being shut down one by one by health inspectors when mice are let loose in the cafe leading to a new sidekick mouse called Hugo for Adams. The witches decide this means war and they set about investigating who it could be. But things take a sinister turn when they believe Carter died in a house fire and their arch enemy Sylvester Coldwell is murdered and his brother August moves in for the kill to take over the family business and he wants rid of the Torrents! Another exciting witchy escapade.
This book delivers the most thrilling and suspenseful ride yet in the Torrent Witch series. Harlow dives headfirst from a seemingly straightforward mystery into a cinematic explosion of secrets and danger. It's refreshing to see Harlow return to her journalistic roots.
My only minor gripe is that the book she began writing in previous installments takes a backseat here. However, that's a small blip in an otherwise relentlessly captivating story. Out of the nine books I've read so far, this one stands out for its constant momentum and focus. The mystery unfolds organically, keeping me invested from the get-go.
Highly recommended! Now, I'm eager to jump into the final book and see if it resolves all the mysteries this whole series has left us with.
Love that we now not only have 2 talking cats but also a talking mouse as a companion to Adams 😅
So much happened in this book! High school reunion, proposals under a lemon tree, finding out about the age difference between Aunt Cass and Hattie Stern, what happened to Gran AND then being kidnapped and almost burried in a vat of cement to cover up another murder.
Also - Jack?! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I’m not crying, you are.
Can’t believe there’s only 1 book to go.
I seriously would love this to be made into a tv series. I think my review of the first book said it’s like Gilmore Girls, Witches of Eastwick and Sabrina the Teenage Witch - all of which are epic…so this would be an absolutely cracking watch, if it was made!
oh. wow! so much happens in this book and i was loving every second! Harlow and her cousins anticipate their high school reunion, there are some unexpected surprises that create plenty of stress for the Torrent family but, as always, they aren’t going to let these events deter them. the humor and magic were enjoyable and i think this was my favorite book in the series.
with the next book being the series finale, i don’t know why i was surprised that this ended with a shocking cliffhanger. 😂 in any case, i have started reading it, eager to read how it will all end! i have enjoyed this magical series and still highly recommend it!! ✨💞
As always a supernatural plot alongside a human one. Both pretty awful. This one was a lot darker than the others with the bad 'guys' being a lot worse I think. For once though, they really didn't solve much, just wrong, place wrong time and they fell into the trouble and we're lucky, or not so lucky to escape! I really don't know how Tess Lake is going to rap all this up in one book and I'm both excited and dreading book ten!
Zipped through this one, we’re clearly getting closer to the end and the stakes are rising, but it’s still pure, uncomplicated fun. The ride is just enjoyable at this point. Wedding bells might be on the horizon… or maybe not We learn more about our friendly ghost (turns out he knows Aunt Cass of course he does), and just when you think the cast can’t get any better… enter a talking mouse to join Adam. Because why not? Simple, fast, and delightful this series knows exactly what it’s doing.
You can tell the series is starting to bring all the pieces together that have been strewn throughout the other books. Very exciting and twists upon twists. Think the writing is getting better too. Series started out meh but easy listening on audible. Now, I must continue! I must know how all this connects and ends.
Things are beginning to come to a head, all the Torrent witches lose their power, leaving Harlowe particularly useless. The nominal Lost witch waits for the final part of the book to make her appearance and causing the status quo to shatter. Still not very good, but one of the best book in this series.
All of the books have gotten me on a roller coaster. I seem to always stay up too late trying to read as much as I can. Will the find the house again. Why are all the guys name Jack. There has to be something to that right or is that just me overthinking it. Is the other reporter some kinda magical beacon I mean he knows something right?? Idk but the end mad me jump right into the the next boom
Too long and boring for having so many things happening. One would think that with constant action and issues the plot would move faster and be somewhat interesting, but it wasn't like that. Adequate ending, though. Although I'm certain it will be destroyed at the beginning of the next book, like always.
4.5. This started out kind of slow, but about midway, it picked up and boy did it pack a wallop by the end. I was about to take a nap after reading it, but mind is in a frenzy right now, ready to start on book 10.
This was prob the best one so far bc everything from the previous is finally coming together but I wasn’t a huge fan of how much commenting there was on body weight? Just seemed unnecessary. Previous in series also had some but this one really stepped it up in a bad way
I could feel the ending coming near in this installation of the series (9th of 10) - finally! Much happens here; many more clues and key observations. This book was almost 'over-packed' but I wonder which parts are really meaningful!
So far this is my favorite book out of the series. The curse, the lost witch, the family and their lives and loves. So well written and what an exciting adventure. Once again I recommend this series for anyone that loves witch cozy mysteries.
This is the grittiest book in the series and is darker than the others. Having said that, it features the same great characters and still fits well within the Cosy mystery genre. I still highly recommend this series.
This series keeps getting better and better. This book had everything, great suspense, great humor, character development, fucking loved it! Can't wait to see how the 10th book is gonna wrap up this series, I'm sad it's going to end soon!
Much like the other Torrent Witches books, this was a relaxing mystery with a nice dash of humor. Loving the continued mysterious past of Harlow's ancestors. This one had a particularly bitter sweet ending/cliffhanger
I got this as all 10 books on Audible for FREE! It was a 65 hour read. Since I listen to books at work I was so excited for this. I loved all 10 books! They were so much fun. I'm so grateful I got all 10 books and they were great!
Definitely beginning to open up the greater mysteries of Harlot Bay. But serious, what is with this ending. Talk about a major cliff hanger... I wasn't going to add that part but the more I thought about it the more it made me need to start the next book right away, which I did.
Yikes and double yikes. This started so well, with everyone all happy and loved, and then the Colbrooks come along and ruin it all. The end of this one was just devastating..........
I downgraded the series because the ending left you hanging. I seriously hate a book that does that -- if feels like you are being forced into finding out how everything works out. I have the series so I do have the next book, however, it starts just as sucky as this one ended.
I enjoyed the story and there was for sure a lot of drama included in this one. There have been a lot of things going on and it was exciting to read. I liked the beard potion a lot. I rate this book five stars.
I looked today those book was a little more suspenseful than the others. It ends with a big confrontation with a dark witch. While there are still antics from Harlow and her family and friends I feel like this book starts the build-up for the end. Can’t wait to read the next which is the last!
