For The Love Of An Outlaw

Rate this book

Ava Dorset is back in town on the pleading of her brother. He’s calling in big favours for her to fix the finances of the local Two Claws Ranch, but she’s wary. She hasn’t been back to her small hometown in years because there’s something off about that place. That and Trigger Massey, owner of the Two Claws Ranch, is too mysterious for his own good. There’s something wrong with that man. Too snarly, too moody, and every time he sets his eyes on her, he looks downright hungry. But the more she gets to know him, the more she thinks she might have been wrong about him all this time. Sure, he’s an outlaw, but there is something else he wrestles with. Something monstrous that he’s kept everyone protected from, and her respect for him grows by the day. She can’t afford to fall in love with an outlaw, and especially not one as dangerous as Trigger, but the longer she stays in Darby, Montana, the more she thinks she can handle his life… if she can only survive it...

Trigger’s had his eye on Ava since they were kids, but he made sure she never knew. That beautiful little spitfire was always going to find a big life away from their small town, and away from him. All he wants is to keep her safe, but she’s digging her claws into his ranch and his heart. But Ava doesn’t realise… the real danger to her life… is him!

Spent all night finishing this book. I really liked it. Not the usual shifter mate romance especially with a bear alpha.

Trigger (H) is a loner bear alpha who owns a ranch together with the h's brother (whom the H turned). They all grew up together in that small town. However, Ava (h) left as soon as she finished high school. She always felt like an outsider and she didn't like Trigger as she thought he was surly and unfriendly to her.

Trigger had his reasons for keeping his distance coz he felt like she deserved more and deserved to see the world while he could not even control his bear. When he is in bear form, he has no control and he doesn't remember what he is doing. I totally understood why he didn’t pursue her and why he thought she deserved better.

Ava came back because her brother pleaded for her help as the ranch was losing money and she works as a financial consultant. She did not know about shifters and did not know that her brother was turned.

When she came back, the sparks were flying between her and Trigger. There were a lot of funny moments. I liked how protective Trigger was and even when they were young, he was always looking out for her even when she didn't know it at all.

Safe, no cheating, no ow/om drama

Terrific grizzly bear shifter romance!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🩵🖤❤️💜💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌎
Character development: ☺️😍🥰😁😋

The heroine: Ava - she grew up in the small ranching town of Darby, Montana. When she was young, her mother died, and her father left. She was left with her brother Colton who was three years older than her and liked to boss her around as much as possible. All through high school she talked about getting away and never coming back and she left as soon as she could. She was doing well and about to become a success in Alabama, when Colton calls her and calls in all his favors by asking her to return to Darby for two weeks to help out Trigger Massey.

The Hero: Trigger - he is a natural born grizzly bear shifter who thinks his inner beast is a monster. He knows his bear has bloodlust and he can’t control or even remember what the bear does after his shift. So, when a bunch of his cattle turn up dead by an apparent bear attack, he is pretty sure it was his own fault. Though if he can’t turn things around soon, he will lose his ranch.

The Story: Trigger hates his beast and is ashamed of what he has done. Five years ago, his bear nearly killed his best friend, Colton. Now Colton has scars down one side of his face and he was changed to a shifter as well. Trigger has always been angry and anti-social. Ava has never liked him and thinks he is hiding something and has always been a bit scared of him. Though she promised her brother she would stay for two weeks and see if she can help with the finances at the Two Claws Ranch.

This was a bit different than most shifter stories in that the shifter can change other people into shifters like a werewolf can bite someone and make them a werewolf. I like the broody, grumpy Hero and Trigger was all that and a bag of chips. He has been to jail three times for fighting (which explains the title). Though his bear has been a bit crazier whenever Ava was around him in the past, so he was not looking forward to her returning.

I really ended up liking this book quite a bit. The bears (Trigger and Colton) had a longstanding feud with a mountain lion clan in the area, so there were a lot of tensions between the two groups of supernaturals. Also, there was a bunch of tension because Ava knew something was being kept from her and didn’t quite know what. This was probably the best bear shifter story I have read.

Finding deep meaning in a Paranormal Shifter Romance? Yes! It is possible!

For the Love of an Outlaw, on its surface, seems like a cheesy mass produced shifter romance. A girl who didn't want to go home goes home anyways to find herself stuck in the mountains with a hot blooded alpha male (and her brother) to save the family ranch. But it turned out to be so much more than that.

The writing in this book was absolutely perfect for what it was trying to achieve. Trigger was rough and testy. His emotions flared hot and he was barely in control sometimes. Ava was cool, calm, and detached. Her brother Colton is trying desperately to protect his sister from the horrors of the town and what he has become in the five years since he saw her last.

It was downright lyrical at times.

What’s the point of living until old age if you forget to live on your way there?

Trigger has this disappointed worldview and that comes from never being allowed to have what he truly wants. However, despite all of his alpha male gruffness, there is no sense of him being abusive. He is charming and supportive when he wants to be and some of the things he says to Ava melted my heart.

The minute you start looking at someone else and thinking they have their shit together…you fail yourself. The minute you look at someone else and wish for their life? You fail yourself. You’re doing just fine, and you never needed to be anyone but you. You were always the one to look up to. You just didn’t see it.

Ugh this man.

Nah, everything happened the way it was supposed to happen. Regrets are pointless. Look what you did with your anger and disappointment. You went out and became a dragon. You run your own business and don’t take no shit from nobody. You know how many women I’ve seen buckle under your kind of start in life? Not you, though. Never you. I never had a single worry about how you would turn out, Ava. Little spitfire, and stubborn as a hair in a biscuit. I fucking love that about you.

This book is about lifting people up and gaining confidence. It's about returning to the place that you think is home and owning your life again. God, I wish all romances did what this book does so well. There's no abuse. There's only devotion and the deep feelings of wanting to protect those that you love.

Grow them deep, thick roots that won’t let go of a place.

This book is so much more than a romance. It's deeper and lovelier than that. It doesn't have that much steam to it so I recommend it to just about any adult. I only wish it had been longer!

What did I do with my Monday evening you ask?...
Well I went into hibernation mode immediately upon learning @t.s.joyce released For The Love Of An Outlaw. I stocked up on the necessities (i.e sweets and tea) and hunkered down for the ride.

This one is different. The depths of emotion that hits you like a swift kick to the beaver is undeniable. This book made me feel raw so I can't imagine how it felt to write it. So intricately woven to create emotional chaos. The plots gritty with substance. The characters so well developed that you forget it's fiction. Their struggles are relatable, real.. I connected instantly!. I laughed till I cried, cried till I became so angry my belly burnt and loved so hard I know I found my new favourite book from this author. I love this disfunctional bunch of crazies, asshole stallions and wild squirrels galore!.
Why do I feel there's more to Genie than meets the eye?. Maybe I'm just hoping for the impossible ay?😜. Can't wait for what Colton the peacekeeper will bring us 😍📚

Trigger is a werebear alpha with no clan, unless you count his best friend who he turned one night while under the influence of his out-of-control bear. They don't call him "Hairpin Trigger" for nothing. He is a born werebear but he doesn't enjoy his existence as one of the most dangerous shifters in the area. His ranch is failing, his best friend-turned-werebear talks to squirrels, and the woman he has always loved is back in town and staying in his house. Yeah, he's not at all happy.

The story flows well and there's not a lot of fluff, so you can easily read this is one sitting if you have the time. T.S. Joyce is quickly becoming one of my favorite PNR authors. 4.5 stars

My only complaint with this book is that it was too short. I would've loved spending more time in this world because I love the characters T.S. Joyce creates. They are flawed and so human, even though some of them are shifters. ;)

I laughed my butt off during this book. The humour is spot on for me. And the emotional parts...wow, I had to wipe my eyes a few times.

I LOVE this author!
Her stories are short, well-developed, and so, so good!
I love her characters. I love their brokenness, backbone, loyalty, and strength, and most importantly the good they have in their hearts to do the right thing.
But what I love the most about her stories is the humour.
I totally get and approve of T.S. Joyce's sense of humour.
Great start to new series!
I can't wait to read Colten's story!

We went back to LUCKY 1010 again and wowzer. I have to tell you it started off slow for me but then I couldn't put it down it was just absolutely shifterrific. Loyalty is the keyword that Ms. T.s. stressed to me. You have nothing if you don't have loyalty.
Ava Dorset is human and lives in Alabama she has I since high school. She left Darby Montana and good riddance, Ave was tierd of the people. Her brother Colton asked her for help, she was needed back to Darby. God knows she owes her life to her brother. But could she see Tigger again?
Trigger Massey is a Grizzly Bear Shifter who inherited the Two Claw Ranch from his dad. He thinks he's losing his mind and definitely knows he's losing his ranch, the only thing that's keeping him going is his promised to his father. With the help of Colton and Ava can he save it all?
A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

I tend to enjoy books by T.S. Joyce, but I'm always a bit sad about how short they are and I can't ever get past the first book of a series. Like always I enjoyed the book. It did have some inconsistencies in it I just wish we could have gotten a bit more.

I've been slowly going through this author's back list and have enjoyed reading her stories. I expected more of the same with this one, but Trigger, Ava and her brother Colt all turned me off right from the start. I made it 5 chapters before giving this one up. I hated how Trigger and Colt bickered, seemed odd when Trigger made Colt who he was, hated how Ava and Colt bickered and guilted each other. In the end this one wasn't for me.

I love Joyce's shifter books, but this one fell short for me. The female lead took everything way too easily for me to stay with the book. Everything she stood for, (and quite frankly everything the male lead and the female lead's brother stood for), went by the wayside way too quickly. And I'm sorry, but finding out someone is a shifter is not something you just take in stride.

This book needed a few more weeks added to the timeline to make it more reasonable for me. The book is way too rushed. Having said that, I love Joyce and most of her shifter books, so I'll read the next one and hope she gets back on track.

I rate this a barely 2.5 stars.

T.S. Joyce is one of the few authors where I just can't enough of her stories! I've read them all and can really recommend them. Trigger the bad boy outlaw, is one of the sweetest outlaws there is and Ava is just one tough girl with grit, that doesn't take bull from anyone including Trigger. This story made me laugh and swoon and wish that I had nothing to do, so I could just sit here a devour the book.
This is the first in the outlaw series...I can't wait to see how it continues!!!

It is not like your usual paranormal romance book in the sense that it dealt with the plot, a bit more on the quicker side but effectively none the less. I like all the characters mentioned because each of them have been given a depth and aren't just flaky.

Strong Human female.
Brave but slowly cracking Grizzly Bear male.
Hawt moments.
Romance galore !

Its definitely worth a read.

See you on the other side...

I love me some shifter romances. I typically only read the first in the series you know how they met, the great life choice to stay or go, to truly except the one you love. I may read the second in the series because it peaked my interest enough to read the second because I’m hoping to see the side characters find happiness too.

DNF 34% life is too short for escapist books you don’t want to finish reading

This isn’t bad, it had some solid points. But it’s so choppy and the instant hot and cold and jus bare glimpses of a book that COULD have been but fails to be are too much for me to want to go on.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

It’s always an exciting moment for me as a reader when I open up the first story in a new series by an author I enjoy. Outlaw Shifters is T.S. Joyce’s newest series, and it does not connect, so this one is a stand on its own feet series. (at least for now, who knows what the future holds) But I have to say this right away – I had a startled laugh out loud moment rather early on when mention of a wall plaque with four familiar numbers was hanging on a wall in the hero’s cabin. Now, if you’ve followed any of the other connecting long series, then you’ll recognize that number. It made me smile and I kept that smile for the rest of the book.

Ava couldn’t wait to be old enough to shake the dust of her small hometown off of her boots. She”d left and not looked back, leaving her brother and one infuriating male behind. Now Colton was calling in a favor, asking her to come back for a short time to help pull the ranch out of financial troubles with her magic with numbers. She didn’t want to do it, fought against it but in the end this would be a one and done favor then she could once again get out of town her debt to her annoying brother paid. Only… things didn’t quite work out that way, for in the years that she’d been gone a lot had changed – but the draw of Trigger certainly hadn’t.

Ava was Trigger’s kryptonite. She always had been. He knew they tossed sparks off of each other the annoyance kind, and the attraction kind as well. He’d done a lot to help her during her growing up years, things she had no clue about and he wanted it kept that way. But right now she was in danger because of him – and the faster she was gone the better. Trouble was having her close was killing him and thinking of her gone made it worse. If she stayed she’d be right in the middle of a shifter war and he couldn’t guarantee her safety although he’d die for her… but that would leave her vulnerable without him. So either way Ava meant a heap of trouble. And she was just stubborn enough to stick around.

For The Love Of An Outlaw brings us to a very raw, dangerous small town and two men who are caught between a rock and a hard place. Friends, clan mates even, Colton and Trigger were fighting a losing battle to keep the Two Claw Ranch up and running – and fighting off the nasty antics of a rival clan as well. With Ava returning the stakes got higher for Trigger, for he’d always thought of he as his. Now he’s going to have to explain what he is, the secrets of this small town and why it’s best if she leaves… and he has no hope at all that she’ll listen to him.

There is a little bit of world building, there has to be for a new series, but it flowed easily into the story. These are true outlaws, scars, fights, and all – but their fights aren’t for the fun of it but a necessity of keeping alive. Trigger is such a wounded soul, he truly feels he’s losing control of his bear and fears what he might do to the people he cares about. Ava has to change her perception of her life in this small town from what she thought she knew to what was reality – never an easy thing. These three will make a stand, and how that works out is still up in the air, but what a ride it’s going to be.

I would highly recommend For The Love Of An Outlaw to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader who enjoys a solid story, strong characters and those touches of danger that always seems to attract outlaws. I’m enjoying the ride, and looking forward to the next story in this new series.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

So once again I felt myself yearning to read some shape shifter fiction along with feeling the need to read more of a book series than a lot of standalone books. Yet I wasn’t sure I wanted to read a simply werewolf/shifter book. I then remembered reading and enjoying A Very Outlaw Christmas I decided I wanted to read more of this series. It was then I discovered that A Very Out Law Christmas was in fact the second book of the Outlaw Shifter Series. I decided to still go ahead to read For The Love Of An Outlaw and just hoped I hadn’t already spoilt book by reading it in the wrong order.

I discovered that this books main characters were once again, Trigger Massey, Colton and Ava Dorset. I tried to discount/forget what I had already read in bk 2 and for the most part managed it. The cover of this book is very similar to that of Bk2 just a slight change in the male’s head/cowboy hat placement. I’d say the male on both covers has to be Trigger Massey.

In this book Colton has contacted his sister Ava and finally managed to get her to agree to come to the Two Claws ranch to help sort out its finances and its downward spiral. Ava tries every excuse she can think of for not going back to Darby, Montana. She had left straight after graduating aged 18 and had never been back since and that’s how she liked it! Ava even tells her brother that his childhood friend unnerves her, but Colt is not taking any excuse. He reminds her Trigger is his best friend and manages to beg, pester, call in all favours she owes him until Ava finally agrees to come back for two weeks only!

Ava didn’t have the very best life in Darby Montana, in fact it was her brother Colton that helped her get through school and kept her on the straight and narrow and yes she was grateful to him. Unbeknown to Ava, her brother best friend had tried his best and had in fact secretly helped Colton whenever he could.

When Ava sees her brother’s scar’s he has some explaining to do. They soon soften somewhat towards each other. Ava is still annoyed with her brother about having to come back to what was once the place she called home. Ava is certainly irritated by the fact she has to stay in Triggers home as he has a spare bedroom. Colton has his own small one bedroomed home, so says its common sense for her to stay at Triggers home.

Being around the stubborn, awkward Trigger irritates Ava immensely to begin with. The fact the town doesn’t want Trigger around anymore and are trying to bankrupt him to get rid of him infuriates Ava whilst she is attempting to settle all his outstanding bills.

Slowly Ava remembers the “good times” she had in Darby and realises how hard it must have been for her brother to take on the responsibility of raising and providing for her. Also, as time goes on Trigger and Ava seem to mellow towards each other. Small things are revealed, like the way when Colton was working nights, Trigger would sneak in and stay in the flat hidden yet keeping watch over Ava. Slowly but surely the “chemistry” between Trigger and Ava grows and grows. There’s danger being with a shifter and Trigger is determined that Ava should know what she is getting into. It is only when someone calls Trigger and Colton “her boys” that Ava realises, they are hers and she wants to protect what’s hers and stay with them.

I really enjoyed reading this book, of course I adored the characters of Ava, Trigger and Colton and their relationships with each other. I love the feelings in the centre of shapeshifter books around the concept of “pack” and “family”. The pack in this book is a fairly small one but I am sure it will grow as the series goes on. As Colton does not yet have a mate and I would hope that the family part of the pack will increase too.

What more can I say another fantastic instalment in a potentially brilliant shape-shifter series. I anticipate great things for this series and definitely want to read more of it soon.

I seriously love T.S. Joyce books. She brings a lot of different things to her novels. It's filled with action, grit, laughter and bone-deep emotions. I seriously love the dialogues she comes up with. Every time I read a new book I wonder if she can make it even more ridiculous and beyond hilarious then the previous novel and she always seems to make it happen.

I'm a just fan of the gray backs and boarlander series. Then reading the series that involved the kids all grown up (the next generation) was something awesome to dive into. I was hoping to still stay in that world but then I heard this book just came out and it was a completely different world with no connections to Damon's Mountain. Part of me was sad (love that universe), but I can't say no to a T.S. Joyce novel, so I decided to give this one a go.

And I liked it. I really did! It will be great to read Colten and Kurt's stories and I can't wait to see how this series plays out (how many join this clan and if we will grow to love other clans etc). Not gonna lie, clans instead of crews was a bit weird for me to read. But yah, If you like the other books from T.S. then def gives this one a try! Is it better than the gray backs, boarlanders or red havoc crews???? Well...gotta wait to read the next book in the series. I tend to fall more in love with each of her series the more books I read within the series (the first book from each series tends to be my least favorite, not saying the first books aren't good but it just gets better with every next installment in a series!!!).

Sorry that's not much to go on. But I hope you guys read it! And if this is your first time reading on of her books then seriously, enjoy! I would recommend starting with Damon's mountains and reading all the series that fall within the universe first (in the order that is suggested). They are all short books and can be read in a day and I honestly don't see how you can regret it if you like shifters, a bit of action, some crazy/hilarious commentary, some tragic stories, naughty scenes and HEA's.

Losing Myself To You!!!

Ava Dorset, an accountant who was back in her hometown Darby, Montana because her brother asked her to help a man that had always felt too mysterious, too big and too scary to her. The owner of the Two Claws Ranch, Trigger Massey.

Trigger "Trig" Massey had always had a crush on Ava Dorset, his best-friend Colton's sister since they were kids. He knew she was meant for greater things and staying in Darby wasn't what she needed. Now she back in town and at his ranch.

The man was an outlaw but the more time she spent with him, the more Ava realized she had been wrong about him. He pushed people away to protect them. All he ever wanted was to keep her safe from himself.

He wasn't able to protect Colton from the beast within when his inner animal clawed him years ago. He'll be damned if he did the same to the only woman he had ever loved.

Ava was Trig's mate, she was the only one who could smooth his inner beast. When she discovered he was a shifter, it all made sense why she always felt like an outsider in her hometown.

Trig tried to pull away from her again but she wasn't having any of it. She stood her ground and fought for her man. He went to war to the Darby clan to avenge what was done to her. Ava held her own against the mountain lions as well.

The beautiful and fierce woman decided to stay with her boys. She was HOME and she wouldn't want to be any other place. Hope Kurt gets his story. Looking to Colton's story next.

FOR THE LOVE OF AN OUTLAW is the first installment in T. S. Joyce's newest series, OUTLAW SHIFTERS . What an outstanding book to start off this amazing series.

T. S. Joyce once again made me fall in love with flawed characters. Two bad boys with a heart of gold and a sassy woman. 5 fan-freakin-stastic stars and a heck yeah for you all to give this book a try ;).

Only I could look for a new shifter series to read and read book one of one. Roll on December for book two. However this Author has many shifter series for me to sink my teeth into. I am looking forward to reading every single of them. Oh! Yeah she’s good. Her storytelling skills had me reading this book in one sitting.

Ava left home a long time ago. All she ever thought about was leaving her small home town to start a new life for herself. As soon as that became possible she did exactly that and never looked back. Leaving her brother behind and her brother’s horrible friend, Trigger. He was always mean to her and she never knew why.

When Colton, Ava’s brother rings basically demanding she come back home and help Trigger, she point blank refused, but she owned her brother. So what was two weeks out of her life?

Things were definitely different in her home town. She still felt like the outsider she had always been, but riddles and weird behaviour took it to a whole new level. I don’t think Ava ever could have prepared her for what was happening in her brother’s life or hers for that matter.

Trigger loved Ava it was a simple as that. Oh, sure he never said that out loud, but I knew while reading. Ava was the only woman for him. True saying ‘love hurts’.
I think Trigger underestimated Ava, she’s a child anymore. He’s about to find out how much of a woman she is.

Ava learns many secrets from her childhood. She thought she knew her brother. Wishing she had done things differently, but hindsight is just that. She can’t change the past, but she can change the direction of her future.

Shifter romance is my favourite and this one has just made the top of my list.

A different story, yes and no. No longer on Damon's Mountain or in any other place, but just as captivating as all the stories. Alphas, shifters and love.

Ava Dorset returned to town after her brother pleaded with her to return. He needs her help in fixing the finances of Two Claws Ranch, ah but she is weary and maybe with a good reason.
She hasn’t been back to her small hometown in years because there’s something off about that place. And that is not the only thing Trigger Massey, owner of the Two Claws Ranch, is not what she expected to be, he hides too much. too many secrets are there in this town.
But as has the chance to get to know him, she begins to realize that she might have been wrong about Trigger.
Can she afford to fall in love with an outlaw, and especially not one as dangerous as Trigger, yet the longer she stays in Darby Montana, the more she comes to believe that she can handle him, his life but can she survive it.
Trigger’s had his eye on Ava since they were kids, but he made sure she never knew. That beautiful little spitfire was always going to find a big life away from their small town, and away from him. All he wants is to keep her safe, but she’s digging her claws into his ranch and his heart. But Ava doesn’t realize…the real danger to her life…is him.
Great story, had me laughing, made me angry at times, had me cheering, specially for the mad squirrel, am loving theses new characters.
