Sixteen-year-old Annarenee Stevens is the sole member of her family without a super power. The only time she feels powerful is in the pool. With her sights set on swimming for U.C. Berkeley, she’s ready to win it all at the State championship and secure her future.

When the government unexpectedly ends the secret Genetically Enhanced Asset (GEA) program, Annarenee is uprooted from Dayton, the only home she's ever known, and relocated to San Diego with all of the other GEA families. Queen of her public school, Annarenee is just another zero at Superhero High, a school without any sports teams.

With the end of the program, her hero older brother now needs a college education, too, meaning the only way Annarenee is getting into Berkeley is on a scholarship. Her dream is slipping through her fingers, no matter how tightly she clings to it. To make matters worse, super hot superhero, Ren Gonzalez, is paying too much attention to her. The kind of attention that has Ren’s ex-girlfriend intent on making Annarenee’s life even more miserable.

But when heroes begin disappearing, zeros and heroes will be forced to team up in order to solve the mystery. If they don't kill each other first.

Superhero high was a total surprise. This book has been popping up everywhere on my radar and I'll be honest something about it made me hesitant to read it. Like they say don't judge a book by its cover. This book was so much better than I expected. Superhero high can be broken into three sections. The initial set-up, the change in location and the mystery of the new school. The synopsis is basically the book set-up.

Annarenee aka AR is a zero in a family of heroes. She doesn't have a special ability like her brother, but she's smart and hard working. Her family have had their lives planned out for them. People with special abilities are matched to a suitable partner and given appropriate jobs to suit their talents, but all of this is about to change. The government have withdrawn their funding for the superhero program. All talents must move to the same location and get regular life's.

AR's life isn't perfect but it's her own. Her boyfriend is more than questionable in the douche bag department. She has a good set of friends and shes dedicated to trying for a college scholarship. The government are moving superhero families to San Diego and AR feels her dreams slipping away. She will be attending school with her brother and other superhero kids. AR's school may have changed but high school drama is still following her.

In a world where AR is called a Zero can she find her place? Superhero high is a romance novel and Ren is our BO. He has a special talent and AR can't believe he's interested in her. Ren can see how special AR is and lucky for everyone else she's able to save the day (with a little help from her friends).

Annarenee is such a great character. I like that she isn't a superhero special. It makes the story unique. She's an ordinary girl.

4.5 stars out of 5. Kindle Unlimited book, however, I also received an ARC.

Superhero High was mesmerizing, beyond addicting and a ton of fun. I got completely wrapped up in the characters lives and lost in the pages. Bullying, first love, friendships, finding yourself and mystery was splashed across the pages. And that made this book emotional, sigh worthy, and I fell in love with so many of the characters. I closed that last page feeling happy and I'm excited for future books set in this world *fingers crossed*!
I fall back onto my bed and close my eyes, letting the past few hours replay in my head, a tear slipping out and running down my cheek. This is the worst nightmare ever, and I’m never, ever waking up from it.

Annarenee Stevens' life may have seemed ordinary, but it was anything but that. She was the only one in her family without superpowers, but none of her friends or even boyfriend at her public high school truly knew about her family. With her sights set on a swimming scholarship to UC Berkeley, this was going to be her best year yet! But her whole life got turned upside down when the government quit funding the Genetically Enhanced Asset (GEA) program. All GEA families, hers included, were rounded up and sent to live in a community in San Diego. Leaving her whole life in Ohio behind, she found herself at a high school with no sports team and surrounded by Superheroes. And there were plenty who thought a zero like her, didn't belong among them.
“I’m talking to you, zero.”
Whirling around, my fists clenched at my sides, I stare him down. “My name is Annarenee, asshole. Not zero, not loser, or any of the other pet names you think are so charming. If you can’t call me by my name . . . you know what? Never mind. Just don’t talk to me. Ever.”
His nostrils flare as he takes deep, angry breaths. “I’ll call you whatever I want, and you’ll answer.”

I loved seeing the world through Annarenee's eyes and connected with her right from the beginning. She was was not only smart, but she had no problem speaking her mind. With her dreams of college sailing out the window and going to a new school where some looked down and bullied her, my heart definitely hurt for her. But she stood up for herself and her zero friends, and I love that she didn't let others push her around. She came across as brave and someone I would respect.
His gaze lifts to mine, and the vulnerability in his eyes steals my breath. I’ve never seen this side of him. Not really. He’s been unsure, or nervous, but not this. Ren searches my face for something, and I’m pretty sure all he’s going to see is pure fear. Because if I kiss this boy, nothing between us will be the same.

In San Diego, Annarenee caught the eye of a Superhero, Ren Gonzalez. Oh you guys, I loved Ren. He gave me butterflies and I loved learning all of the different sides to him. Ren made me laugh, he made me feel cautious and he made me fall head over heels in love with him. The words he chose and the way he treated others just added to the huge list of reasons why I fell so hard for him. So when Ren flirted with Annarenee he easily made my heart race. But his jealous superhero ex seemed to always be hanging in the background and I was personally scared of her powers.
I’m in serious danger of falling hard for that boy, and I’m shocked it doesn’t scare me.

In the midst of everyone trying to adjust to living in San Diego, some of the teen superheroes started disappearing. I was grasping at the tiniest clues, like Annarenee, trying to figure out what was going on. And while I felt as clueless as her, I loved how all of this was a trigger for something huge. The zeroes and heroes would have to put aside their differences and work as one if they wanted to find those that they loved. Awww I loved this story and how it played out!
His mouth is on mine in seconds, as if he’d been holding his breath and he desperately needed to inhale.

I absolutely adored Superhero High. At the base of this story was a romance, but it was also about finding yourself, navigating your teen years and so much more. This book ended in a wonderful spot with a HFN feel, yet there are so many ways this story can continue. And I for one can't wait!

AR aka Annarenee is part of a superhero family; the thing is though that she is what most in the superhero world would call a "zero" as though both her parents have powers and her brother Noah too, she was born with no abilities or superpowers. For AR, she got the chance to go to a normal school and have friends, she was on the swim team, and she was good at it and on her way to potential scholarship material and college at Berkley. That was until the government decided to cut the funding on the classified superhero project and move all families involved to a small community ex-naval facility in San Diego. Now AR has to up and leave her life in San Diego and become one of the rejects, the minority in a school filled with Superheroes. Here AR is going to have to form new dreams and goals as now she is one of the "freaks and outcasts." What will happen though when the heroes start to go missing, and AR's brother Noah is amongst the missing? Whereas the superheroes have always relied on their powers, AR and her newfound gang of zeroes have their brand of strengths. Can the zeroes and a few friends who are heroes save the day? In doing so, will AR realize that in a way she did have powers - the power of leadership?
Find out in this cutesy YA novel with a bit of suspense and action - Superhero High by T.H Hernandez. This book reminded me a little of the movie Sky High which was a school for Heroes, Sidekicks, and Villans.

Taking high school drama and mixing it with some superhero powers and mystery, this book is an easy read adventure to enjoy.

Annarenee is not happy to find out that the government has cancelled their superhero program, which has been the center of her parents' and brother's lives. Although she herself is a 'zero', a person without any special abilities, she is part of the family and must move with them to California. There, the government has set up a type of superhero village to keep an eye on their people, while they learn to adapt to a normal life. For Annarenee, a girl who was popular and a state level swimmer before, a high school full of superheroes is automatic nightmare. Although she finds a few friends, some of those with powers aren't willing to accept zeroes. Take this challenge, add some disappearing teens and Annarenee is about to embark on a high school experience far beyond anything she could have dreamed.

This book is very smooth and easy to read. Excitement, action or simple intriguing layers of mystery hit every page, making it a steady paced novel. Set in high school with teens, the plot rotates around all sorts of social issues and will feel very familiar to teen readers. Annarenee is not the ugly duckling, but still, has to conquer some easy to relate to issues. Bullying, peer pressure and social bordering are topics hit in these pages. But that's not all.

The story can be broken down into three segments: Annarenee at her home high school and usual life, the new start in California with all of it's social issues, and the mystery of disappearing teens. There's a lot packed into these pages, and the sections run together nicely. The structure allows the reader to get to know Annarenee well and sympathize with her before throwing her world head over heels. The mystery at the end was a treat and almost the only part of the book where the superpowers really came into more play.

The ending of the book wrapped things up nicely and left a satisfactory smile. It did, however, come across a bit rushed and too easy to solve. Annarenee's sudden realization at the end of her importance came across a little forced and didn't completely mirror what role her character had taken during the read. Still, these things are nit-picky when compared with the fun read. And it was a fun read.

I received a complimentary copy and found the story refreshing and fun enough to want to leave my honest thoughts.

*I was kindly sent this book in return for an honest review*

I was surprised by how much I loved this book!
First off, I loved the characters - they made the book for me. Ren, Grayson and Noah were my faves. Ren and AR, so cute!! The humour was subtle but funny. And the superhero premise I loved. The writing style was also great! I am totally reading whatever T. H Hernandez writes next because there was something about this book that despite the many flaws I am about to list, this book grabbed me and had that spark which so many well written/fleshed out books don't have.

The problem with the book are as follows: firstly the cover and title are horrific, I would not have normally picked this up on a shelf because of the childlike vibe it suggests, although the blurb is great!
Secondly, quite a slow starter... Like I was 48% of the way through before anything resembling a plot occurred.
Thirdly, the plot was "solved" but wasn't explained which is just down right annoying.
Fourthly, AR "special snowflake complex reversed" was so odd - it needed more and the crappy resolution to that element was so unfulfilling.
And finally, the ending seemed very rushed and yet not fully resolved or complete and just a bit meh overall. It also doesn't seem to have a sequal or one on the way so that's not the reason for it.

Overall this book has confused me more than I even thought possible. Everything I just listed as an issue would normally - under any other circumstances have me hating this book and ditching it but something about this had me enthralled until the very end! I can't even explain why but I totally recommend that you read it and see what you think. Don't expect much from the plot but expect to fall in love with quirky characters and odd humour that leaves you in stitches.

THIS BOOK IS TOTALLY AWESOME!!!

I remember signing up for the cover reveal for this book and I also remember when I first saw it. So cute!!! I knew I had to read the book. I know, that totally goes against everything a book nerd should believe in(Don’t judge a book by its cover), but I’m a sucker for romance. And it doesn’t hurt that the book is about superheroes.

I wasn’t sure what to expect at first. Something like Disney’s “Sky High?” But no, this book is waaaaay better than that. And I like “Sky High!” This book just had such adorable romance and a great mystery too. I was a little disappointed with the ending, though. I kept thinking there would be some even crazier plot twist and nothing happened. My reaction to the ending was just “That’s it???”

Other than that, I was loving this book and it always had me on the edge of my seat. This book is great for people who want superheroes mixed with the most perfect couple ever!!!

(Also, if you are a complete nerd, I think you’ll be very happy to find that Annarenee is like your kindred spirit.)

* I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own *

This is the story of teenager Annarenee Stevens whose family all have super powers, but her. Anna just wants a normal life, swimming, for Berkeley ans winning the State championship.
But it seems the Government have other ideas, they are ending the secret program and Anna and her family have to relocate to San Diego where all the other super powered families are now living.
This changes everything for Anna because now her family have to pay to put her super powered brother through college where the government were suppose to take this cost.
Moving to a new school is always hard but it is even harder when you’re an outcast with no powers in a school of powered kids, but when the powered kids start to go missing Anna and her new gang of friends called the Zeroes use their skills and strengths in search of these missing powered kids.
This was a great story by T H Hernandez and look forward to the next instalment.

What a fun read! I loved the main character Annarenee--a strong, capable teen who has the misfortune of being the only one in her family of superheroes lacking special powers. When the government cuts funding to the Genetically Enhanced Assets program (which employed her parents), the family has to adjust to their new home, new lives, and reduced income. Annarenee must deal with not only losing her best friend, but also has to adjust her college plans as her parents can't afford to send her to her dream college. At her new high school (designed for the supers and their non-super siblings) she finds herself a target for bullying from supers who consider her a zero. As the plot progresses, the mystery develops when the heroes begin disappearing. Annarenee quickly becomes involved in not only finding them, but realizing her own "powers" in the process.

Loved the character Ren--handsome, sweet, sometimes overly confident, but mostly an insecure, awkward teen (who also happens to be a superhero). The budding romance is sweet.

I appreciated that the teens were able to use their problem-solving skills, and I loved how strong and capable Annarenee is. A 21st century young woman! Fun story with a satisfying ending.

I enjoyed this, it was a fast read. It didn't fall into a very predictable story, and I appreciated that. (about her powers, or lack thereof) I wasn't expecting a mystery, so that surprised me, but it seemed a bit rushed. I would have liked a bit more story/conclusion, like what happened to her afterwards... did she get her swimming scholarship or the school she wanted? It was such a big part of her life and a motivator for her, it would have been nice to complete that part of the story. Overall a fun read.

Superhero High was quite a surprise for me. Annarenee's life gets turned upside down when the program her parents and brother are in, gets cancelled. Her family all have special abilities, she doesn't. So when things change, she freaks out. Having worked so hard for her future, she's not quite sure what to do.

I have to say that Annarenee annoyed me a bit in the beginning. It was all about her. I mean, of course I get it's hard that your life is turned upside down, but think about your family. They have never been able to make decisions on their own and suddenly have to. In that sense, Annarennee was very lucky. In the end though, she started realizing what kind of challenge everything was and with no other way to describe it, grew up.

I loved that Superhero High wasn't quite as predictable as most stories like this are. Normally the main character without special abilities discovers she has had something all along. Or there is insta-love and that somehow takes over the book. That wasn't the case with Superhero High.

There was some mystery I didn't expect and it definitely turned out a whole different way that I had thought of. The suspects I had turned out to have nothing to do with any of the missing kids. The abilities were unique in many ways, I mean being invisible and your ability is to make yourself visible is pretty cool.

Annarenee's family is pretty close and I loved that. Just like with the families and friends of the other characters in this book. We see the typical bullying because some kids don't have abilities, but I loved the characters that stood up for them. I think Annarenee made some lasting friendships. Also I loved the connection between her and Ren. Yes, they noticed each other right away, but it took time to grow. That doesn't always happen in YA.

The only think I would've liked to have seen different is maybe more background. We are kind of dropped in the middle of the story and I would've liked to have learned more. Just like the story kind of ends all of a sudden. What happens once everyone goes back to school? Does Annarenee get to swim or discover something else she wants? Things are left a bit too open. This book was too fast paced in some ways, but I think because it was so short.

All in all, I loved Superhero High and the characters. It's not your typical Young Adult story, but it has a twist. I definitely recommend this book to other Young Adult readers.

Superhero High is a fun, quick read that will most likely leave you wanting more. I know I was left wishing I had more time with the characters and learning more about them, their powers, etc.

We have Annarenee aka AR, who is the only normal one in her family. Her brother, mother, and father all have powers, but she does not. Her life is still relatively normal, though. She has a BFF, a boyfriend, and seems pretty happy. Until it all comes crashing down.

Forced to move to a new state and start a new school, Annarenee now needs to adjust to the fact that she's co-mingling with kids with powers. And those kids don't like "normals" like her. Add in the mystery of disappearing kids with powers, and AR's life has become one big ball of crazy.

I really enjoyed the simplicity of the plot. It reminded me a little of a roleplaying forum I used to be a part of, where my friends and I created characters who had powers and plopped them in a high school setting. Insanity ensued. It was great, and reading this story reminded me of how much fun I had with it.

The story is a relatively quick read, but it will keep you engrossed and intrigued while you try to figure out the mystery of what's going on. By the end, though, I was disappointed, but only because it was ending. I wanted more!

I liked the characters a lot. I thought AR was a bit frustrating at times, but she's a teenage girl who had to uproot everything she's known and learn to intermingle with super-powered teens. So I gave her a pass for some of her...naivety, I guess you could say.
I also really liked Ren. He seemed like he would be a jerky character, but he ended up being super sweet, and I kinda fell in love with him. I know others will too.

I hated Lexie, but that's not surprising. She brought back bad memories from my own high school experience, and she reminded me of a few nasty, mean girls from that time in my life.

Overall, I thought Superhero High was a cute, fun little story, and I kinda wished I was a superhero who could attend the school and befriend some of these characters (even though I'm way past my high school phase now).

If you enjoy young adult stories, stories about kids with powers, or just intriguing mysteries, pick up a copy of Superhero High today. You won't be disappointed (although you may be left wanting more).

I give the story 4.5 stars.

Superhero High was a fantastic read that kept me on the edge of my seat! It took me back to my video game playing days and reminded me a bit of City Of Heroes. Not sure why I made that connection, but I did.
It was a well-written book with fantastic characters and I found myself drawn into the story immediately. Annarenne, AR to her friends and family, was born into a family of genetically altered heroes, but she had no powers, and is known as a zero.
When the government decides to stop funding the GEA (Genetically Enhanced Asset) program, AR’S family has to pick up and move across the country and start over.
In California, she meets Ren, a hero with looks that would stop traffic. Unfortunately, Ren’s ex has taken an instant dislike to AR and will do everything she can to make life miserable for AR.
When heroes start disappearing, they all have to work together to find them, as the agency sure isn’t doing anything.
I absolutely loved Ren! He is a genuinely kind and caring young man. AR is incredibly brave and loyal and I found myself cheering for her constantly.
This is a must-read for lovers of young adult fiction!

This was a cute fun read. It wasn't really quite as exciting as I would have thought, but still a good read. It is labeled as a YA but seems to read a little younger to me. Probably only because YA books seem pretty mature these days :-/

The characters were very likable, great personalities, and believable. Even the "mean girls" were great characters - the kind of girls you loved to hate!

A fun, nice little mystery to this that kept you guessing. Another reviewer described it as cutesy and I would have to agree even with the missing teens it just didn't ever seem very serious or earth shaking for some reason. I think a young teen girl would love this book! An adult, maybe not so much.

Superhero high has all of the things I love in superhero books: amazing superpowers, superheroes secretly working for the government, special schools and one thing I didn’t know I liked, a girl in the world of amazing powers, without any. :)
Story reminded me a bit on Sky High (one of my all time favourites), with totally different spin.
Whilst I enjoyed the setting and powers and all that very much, I had trouble connecting to the main character.
In the end, it’s very enjoyable story with face paced plot and few surprises along the way.

In an Oyster Shell – It was a good book with superheroes that could have had a stronger ending.

The Pearls – I love a good superhero book. What I like about this one is the main character does not have a traditional superpower. Annarenee is a strong character that stands up to the harassment that comes with being a “zero.” She surrounds herself with people who become great friends and are able to accomplish a lot together.

I liked the romance. I love her love interests power when they kiss he goes invisible. It was very unique and fun. I like that it was a clean romance, with strong morals. I liked that very much.

The mystery was intriguing. It kept leaving you wanting to turn the pages as fast as you could.

T.H. Hernandez’s latest young adult novel, Superhero High, blends all your favourite government conspiracy theories and super hero stories into one great story.

Do you remember the opening scenes in The Incredibles where the super heroes all have to hide in plain sight? Her story is similar to that concept but brought into the 21st century with a modern twist – whole families of supers (Genetically Enhanced Assets) that were once a part of a government-funded programme are now finding out that the money is gone and they’re all going to have to live “normal” lives in one happy area of San Diego. Only, not everyone is actually a super…

Enter Annarenee, the only person in her family without super powers. Knowing that she had to ‘make her own way’ in the world, Annarenee had it all planned out – that is until she’s forced to move with her whole family and go to school where she’s bullied for being a “zero”, in spite of the fact that she’s an excellent student and a champion swimmer.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t take long for the action to get moving as, one-by-one, heroes begin disappearing. It’s up to Annarenee and her maybe-new-boyfriend?, Ren, to put together a team of heroes and zeroes to solve the case.

The tale is extremely well written and blends many pop culture elements that make the story more realistic, in spite of it being a “sci-fi”/ “superhero” story. She uses rich language and it is great to see that she has brought in so many of her own personal interests to accent the story.

One note – this IS young adult fiction. It may not be suitable for middle-schoolers or younger as it does include some elements of teen sexuality and drinking.

A fun, fast-paced, and inventive twist on superhero stories taking place at a high school for kids with superpowers and their non-enhanced siblings. Annarenee needs to prove to herself that her lack of a superpower doesn't mean she can't be a hero, while still dealing with relatable teen issues like starting over in a new school, dating, and managing classes, a job, and sports.

I was excited to read another book from the author of The Union. This was an engaging story, with characters that I enjoyed getting to know. The author does a great job of getting the reader invested in the lives of the characters. This was a quick, light, enjoyable summer book!
