Athletic Affairs is a set of four standalone Sports Romance Novellas. Each story has a cast of attractive, intelligent characters, a good dose of steaminess, and a Happily Ever After ending.
Unexpected: Kyra is left at the altar by her high school sweetheart when he leaves her for her best friend. Alone in the bridal suite, a knock on the door reveals an old high school friend now pro-footballer, Jones. He is there to offer support but hours later the two find themselves having sex on the counter of the empty hotel bar. What was supposed to be Kyra's wedding night turns into a one-night stand instead. One that left her with a an unexpected pregnancy. The two haven't spoken since their hook-up and when Kyra finally shares the news with Jones his reaction is awful. Jones gets his act together and becomes the man Kyra and their baby deserve, but the damage was done to me in this story. I couldn't get over his reaction or his 'lies' about other women. I never felt like his feelings for Kyra were enough.
Hit Hard: Emilia goes with her friend for a night out and finds herself completely out of her element at an illegal boxing match. The fighter Darius Frost captures her interest like no man has in a while. The two meet but only talk. However, when Darius starts working at the same restaurant, they quickly give in to their mutual attraction. They decide early on to keep their relationship casual, but when Emilia starts feeling something for Darius, she cuts their relationship off. She's a struggling musician turned mostly waitress; she doesn't want an illegal fighter as her partner. It's soon clear to her that she made a mistake and walked away from something special. Can she convince him to give her a second chance? I wasn't sure about these characters. Darius seemed like he had a secret, but we learned nothing about his past, so he just seemed suspicious. Emilia was cowardly and judgemental for a musician. However, even with my reservations about the characters, I loved them together. I was also pleased with the female making the stupid relationship mistake instead of the male. Nice twist.
Knockout: Jacob belongs to an ultra-rich, tech-business family, but his heart led him into the world of MMA. Is he a rebel, the black sheep, does his family support him, is he actually serious about the sport? Sports Journalist Natalie Paulson is certain that there's a story surrounding this man and she's determined to get it. After being given one too many brush-offs by his agent, Natalie sneaks into Jacob's locker room after a fight. Dazzled by his instant attraction to her, Jacob agrees to give her the opportunity of a lifetime; she will accompany him on his nationwide tour. Their attraction is overwhelming and all-consuming, but Jacob's agent is opposed to any relationship and Natalie wants to remain professional. Still, the temptation is so strong. Is there more to this pair than the sexual attraction? What happens when the tour is over? Neither is ready to think about a future without the other, but... This is an entertaining, quick read, perfect for a beach afternoon or a slow Saturday night. It's steamy, steamy, steamy. The physical attraction between Jacob and Natalie is off the charts. They're more than just sex though, it's a good match. They are both professional, intelligent people. I love that finally, a book let the characters go after what they wanted, what would make them happy, instead of listening to only what they should do. The epilogue was a bit disjointed and felt rushed, but it was a nice way to fast forward.
Cutting Ice: When Emily is given the biggest assignment of her reporting career it costs her her relationship. Even so, she knows she can't pass up the opportunity to spend months in a small town covering their hockey team. Sam, one of the players, has just been offered a position on a major league team. He has one month to make his decision and to Sam, it's not as easy as it would seem. He's comfortable with the life he has and fears the changes and possible failure of a move to the big leagues. Emily and Sam have a one-nighter the first night that she goes out on the town with the team, but both decide that "they" are not a good idea. However, they can't seem to remember that and come together again. There is also an emotional connection as Emily sees the similarities with their lives. Can she help Sam see what is best for him or will he turn away from her and keep his comfortable life? These two had an obvious physical attraction, but I would have liked a more developed emotional connection. It seemed like Sam spent most of his time angry.
UNEXPECTED ☆☆☆ This short story is about Kyra and Jones.
Kyra is embarrassed by her fiance as he leaves her at the altar. Jones was his best man who ends up taking care of Kyra for the night. A good rebound. Jones disappears the next day. Surprise, Kyra is pregnant. Will she have the nerve to tell Jones?
Kyra was great. After everything she goes through she still holds her head high. Jones is on my bad list. He treats Kyra horribly in the beginning. His emotions change later on but still the damage is done.
Overall, it was okay an okay read. If your pressed for time it's even better.
HIT HARD ☆☆☆☆ This short story is about Emilia and Darius.
Emilia meets Darius at an underground boxing match. There was an instant connection. Emilia is afraid to play the field because of what he does with illegal boxing. Will there be a way around that?
Loved the characters. For me, this short story has lots of potential. It was too short. This one would definitely make a fantastic full length book.
KNOCKOUT ☆☆ This short story is about Natalie and Jacob.
Natalie is a journalist and is going to interview Jacob, a MMA fighter. He asks her to join him on tour to get a story. She agrees and sparks fly.
The story has potential but I dragged through on this one. The sex was hot but there was not much action or drama. I wanted to connect to the characters but couldn't.
CUTTING ICE ☆☆☆ This story is about Emily and Sam.
Sam is a hockey player who is trying to make a decision to stay with a small team or go to a bigger team. Emily is a reporter sent to do a story on Sam and his current team. Will he stay? Or will he go to the bigger team?
This one was good and could have been great as a full length novel. The characters were likeable. I also liked that Emily was super strong and didn't let things get her down.
☆☆☆
Over all, these short stories were great for quick reads. I did see several errors but nothing cringe worthy. Most were entertaining and had likeable characters.

Unexpected: I like this story about Jones and Kyra, especially the epilogue! Four star-rate.
Hit Hard: Is about Darius and Emily. In my opinion Emily is a little overreacting on Darius'boxing and can't seem to make up her mind but the story has a very HEA! Four stars.
Knockout: A nice story which put a smile on my face during the last few chapters. Jacob and Natalie are very hot together! Five stars!
Cutting ice: Great storyline about making choices and a lot of sparks flying between the two characters Emily and Sam. Five stars!
