Well... This is Awkward...

Two books into the Prophecy trilogy, and I can assure you, just about everything is. Awkward, I mean. No, I'm not criticizing or expressing my feelings about the book (though that's coming), I'm saying that the word "awkward" has popped up so frequently in both this book and the previous one that I'm getting the feeling it's a preferred adjective. Unfortunately, the problem isn't that it's used so often. For me the problem is that because it's used so often, it limits the variety of the descriptions and left me with a very repetitive and one dimensional impression of characters reactions. But now I'm getting ahead of myself...

The second book in Heaton's Prophecy trilogy picks up almost directly after the upsetting cliffhanger of the previous book. Unlike some series, this trilogy does not contain stand alone books, and the exposition here is virtually non-existent. If you have not read Prophecy: Child of Light (Vampires Realm, #1), I wouldn't recommend you try to start this one. In this book, Prophecy is shaken by the mistakes made in Child of Light, and feeling very lost and small as she struggles in Valentine's absence. Along with the surprising help of the new lord of Trenebrae, Venturi, who has sworn to protect her...despite her being responsible for the death of half his family's warriors and his lord and sire, Prophecy marches ever onward, determined to rescue her love despite the obstacles that keep popping up, and still set on being the savior, not the destroyer, of the world.

I tend to agree with the other reviewers to a point. I think Prophecy: Caelestis and Aurorea is a bit better written than Child of Light. I can't really say, however, that I liked it more than Child of Light, because in fact, I didn't. One of the things I enjoyed so much in the first book was the slow development of Valentine's character - the changes he goes through as he turns from centuries of service and family dedication to do this rash thing by following his instincts. I found his particular journey and the developing relationship with Prophecy to be compelling.

This book loses most of that, and instead offers up a potential rival for Prophecy's affections in the character Venturi. I'm not going to criticize the author's artistic license, because that's not my place. I'll simply say that the quagmire of the emotional triangle that was developed here was not to my taste. I personally found it a bit disturbing and it didn't leave me feeling much sympathy for Prophecy.

I know I'm particularly hard on the female heroines in my books. Most books I read, if I can get through them just able to tolerate the female lead, I consider it a good day. I haven't been crazy about Prophecy from the beginning of the series, but I liked where I thought she was going, who I thought the character was developing into. For a good portion of the first part of this book, either while she was with Venturi or while she was making her way to save Valentine mostly on her own, I was forced to realize that without Valentine to hold my attention, I just don't like her. I think she's far too unschooled, impetuous, and immature. She's lucky that she seems to breeze through things with little to no true conflict and that she's been given all kinds of power and foresight, because she doesn't appear to have much inherent sense. And I don't understand how this young girl - who hadn't even ever left her family house or hunted just weeks ago - is so easily and with so little effort able to command such powerful magics and defeat such powerful foes when the odds and numbers are so drastically against her. It's a bit unrealistic.

All in all, I thought the plot of this book meandered a bit too much, especially at the beginning, lost its focus for the first half, and had too much emphasis placed on developing some sort of odd love triangle that just flat out turned me off and made me lose a lot of respect for Prophecy. I can't say I disliked it, really, because there's much about this journey that Prophecy and Valentine are on that I like very much, but I didn't like it as much as the first book. For me it lacked in intensity, and while the technical writing skills and grammar issues were less prevalent here, I'm still left feeling like overall, this book was just...awkward.

Prophecy Chosen Daughter of Caelestis, doesn't remember who she is and when she gets tired of being imprisoned she decides to go out and kill and feed for the first time. She is so overwhelmed by the ecstasy that killing gives her that she doesn't realize that she is being watch by one of her family's enemy.
Valentine one of the most valuable hunters of Aurorea, see this beautiful Vampire taking pleasure on eating like he has never seen before, when he realizes that she is a Caelestis he goes to confront her, but she is speechless so he takes her blood to revive the memories but what he sees leaves him blank, and afraid. She is the Prophecy that everybody has talked about, the doom of their kind and the world.
Somehow he is incapable of killing her and he has this urged, this necessity to protect her, against Aureora and Caelestis houses, who have ally to kill her.

This trilogy is one of the best ones I have read in a long time. It has everything love, friendship, betrayal, passion, a background story, sex but not basic sex that you don't know where it comes from? it has its meaning, at some point your heart breaks a little while you read. Its an awesome story Read It, but buy the 3 books before you start because your are not going to stop once you finish chapter 2.

Second book in this series

I really miss more human interactions. I know they live in secret but it is very unlikely that they don't meet anyone and they treat the humans like blood banks and they all die it's a bit brutal. Honestly I have read a lot of vampire books where the balance was better. At least a bit interactions with humans to keep safe. There would be to many corpses be found everywhere and no one has any interest why and how they died. Unlikely.
I like that there are different kind of Vampires but would have liked more details. And I would have liked to find out who killed her mother and how prophecy was found.

Brilliant.

I have 4 stars on the previous book because I don't like cliffhangers.
I bought the 3 book's at the same time, which was good buy, and glad I did.
The series is one of the best that I have ever had the pleasure of reading.
To be brutally honest, the books need to be sold as a set not individually.
The books follow on as if it is one single book seamlessly transitioning from one to the next. If you bought it singularly at different times you would be confused.
That is my only criticism.

This review will cover both Books 2 and 3 of the trilogy.

I gave Book 1 all five of my stars because I didn't want to put my book down. I promptly dove into the Book 2 and, well, I found the story line was beginning to drag and it wasn't a problem at all for me to set the story aside to do other things. Disappointingly, Book 3 was easy to permanently shelve because:

In Book 1 it was taboo to even entertain the idea of co-mingling pure blood lines and the Law Keepers were always looking over your shoulder to keep everyone in line. Prophecy and Valentine spent many chapters fighting their feelings at the risk of betraying their blood line's loyalty. By the time we get to Book 3, fraternization with the other blood lines isn't even on the radar.

Which brings me to Venturi. At the end of Book 1 Prophecy destroys the leader of the Tennebrae and Venturi is instantly promoted. Now herein lies another problem with the storyline: Venturi - as the new Lord of the Tennebrae - doesn't stick around to help his destroyed family heal from the destructive battle that Prophecy and Valentine in hindsight accidentally waged; he doesn't tend to any "passing of the scepter" housekeeping details. Nope! He suddenly has a crush on Prophecy & immediately traipses off with her on her quest to find Valentine and to destroy Elena who is out to rule the world. He doesn't give a single thought to the Law Keepers.

Prophecy. Oh, where to begin?! The men in her life keep telling her how strong she is. Well, she's got mad witchcraft skills when she can figure out how to use them, but emotionally she's entirely co-dependent. She seems to need to be around a man to hug, lick, bite and console at her leisure. She loves Valentine - but refuses to allow either of them to even say the words aloud to one another. She dangles Venturi along like a puppy and he's a gullible sap who will do anything and everything she asks.

Prophecy wears her star necklace her entire life but it doesn't occur to her that it might be the key to open her spell book. I figured that out in Book 2 but it took Prophecy way later into Book 3 before her attempted assassin / father poked her in the head with the knowledge. The whole "you're my father??" scene was eyeball rolling.

Claims - just what does it take to claim a fellow vampire so that you won't feel tempted to look to others because you're so consumed with your lover? Sex isn't enough and having magic threads turning colors or weaving between you and your lover doesn't make the claim, either. Claims were a big deal in Book 1 and by 60% of Book 3 it still wasn't defined.

And speaking of that big battle to save the world. It was the focus of the story line from the very beginning but the author just dragged on the inevitable to the point that I just didn't care. In Book 3 the author did the predictable: she had Elena cackling to her captured audience all her evil plans for world domination. *Yawn* Isn't that the recipe for every B-grade book and movie? By the time I flounced, the image of Elena in my head became Ursula from the Disney movie The Little Mermaid.

All told, the idea of the story is good but I think it should have been just two books instead of three. Venturi was a nice character but he was a time consuming distraction to the story who aided to Prophecy's co-dependency. The story just needed to move along to keep the action exciting.

To the author's credit, she wrote very sensual scenes between the characters. Vampire neck biting was pretty tingling to read and the eventual sex scenes were done quite well.

This is the second book in the Vampires Realm Romance Series. I loved it!

Prophecy is a fantastic character. She is a very headstrong and determined young woman. Not only is she a vampire, she finds out she is a powerful witch. I liked her very much.

Valentine is also a fantastic character. He is one of the most charismatic vampire characters I have come across in a novel. He is absolutely drool-worthy! I think I'm in love with him!

This story continues on from the end of the first book. Prophecy is devastated after the abduction of Valentine. Trying to track him down, she gains the assistance of Venturi, the new head of the Tenebrae clan - one of the five vampire dynastic families. Venturi is an interesting character. He is quite the charmer, but can be lethal when required. The Tenebrae have a reputation of being fierce warriors, and Venturi is most certainly a formidable one. I liked him very much, and if I wasn't in love with Valentine myself, I would certainly love to be charmed by this vampire!

This story is a fast paced, action packed sequel that had me hooked from the first page! I love paranormal romances, but I am not overly fond of love triangles. However, Venturi and Valentine are polar opposites, and it was interesting to see how Prophecy dealt with the attentions of another male, considering she had such a sheltered upbringing, and very little experience with the matters of the heart. The story is interestingly told from three points of view: Prophecy, Valentine and Venturi, which gives the reader the opportunity to see their thoughts and feelings. There are a few twists and turns in this tale that kept me guessing as to what would happen next. I must admit that I was a little disappointed when I came to the end of the story, because I wanted to keep reading; it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger - be warned! Luckily, the third book, Prophecy: Dark Moon Rising, is on my Kindle and will be read at the earliest opportunity!

I am a huge fan of Felicity Heaton's books. I love her fast paced writing style, which flows beautifully, and the way her characters come to life on the page. Her attention to detail sparks my imagination, and that is why I love her work so much. I will keep reading her books for as long as she keeps writing them, and beyond. She is number one on my favourite authors list.

There are a few steamy scenes that, although not too explicit, are extremely hot! Therefore, I do not recommend this book for younger readers. However, I highly recommend this book if you love paranormal romances with an excellent story, combined with sexy vampires, werewolves and witches. - Lynn Worton

I said in my review of the first book (Prophecy: Child of Light (Vampires Realm)) that it was a good thing I liked the characters and overall story enough to buy this, the second book, otherwise I'd have been ticked, as the cliffhanger that ended that first book had been so huge that it left me feeling the story was incomplete -- yes even for a book that is part of a series. As if to prove my point, this book picks up almost right where the first book had left off. Unlike some books that are parts of a series there is no recapping of the prior book. I literally went from reading one book to the other and felt as though all I'd done was moved on to the next chapter. So make no mistake, these are not stand alone books.


This one starts with Prophecy on the road with Venturi, the guard who had been standing next to her at the end of book one. They're off to find Valentine. And, of course, they still need to figure out this whole prophecy thing so they can save the world. Along the way we once again meet the three witches, Elena, Mathias, Kalinor, Arkalus, and some of the others from book one. And, oh, we meet who appears to be the oldest vampire! There's battles to fight. Deaths. More questions. And yes, even some answers. Sorry, that's all I say. I'd not want to spoil it for you.

I gave the first novel 3 stars. Primarily because of two things:
1) I'd felt the author was at a loss for words at times. Repeating herself often enough to frustrate me.
2) The feeling, as I said, of it not being a completed book.

This book, is definitely better and so I'm giving it 4 stars. There were still a few times when I felt as though I'd seen that same expression or word a few times too many, but the writing in that sense is greatly improved in this book. Also, I did feel as though this story had a completed adventure even as it left us on an cliffhanger that will surely lead to an even bigger battle in the third book.

I have decided to move onto Prophecy: Dark Moon Rising (Vampires Realm). Whether I continue on with Vampires Realm after that, we'll see. But for this Prophecy trilogy aspect, I don't see how you can start it and not finish.

Prophecy sets off to search for her love and protector Valentine. Venturi, the Lord of the Tenebrae accompanies and pledges to protect her despite what has been done to his family. Venturi is developing feelings for her, but her heart lies with Valentine. She must find him before it is too late, and together they will prepare for what is to come.

Since the first book, Prophecy’s magic has begun to grow. Although she feels lost and alone without Valentine, she shows great courage in rescuing him. Because of what he has been through, Valentine has a much darker demeanor in this novel. His animosity toward the human race burns brightly. All of his tenderness is reserved for Prophecy, and unlike the last story they no longer feel compelled to hide what they mean to each other. I really like Venturi’s character. He loves Prophecy, but her feelings for him are confusing. My heart broke for him because all of his emotions were so tangible.

The first three books of the Vampire Realm series make up the Prophecy Trilogy. Heaton seems to be laying the foundation for what the continuing novels will build upon. So far, the first two books are somewhat different than the other books I have read by Heaton. I have still enjoyed them. There is a lot of action in the stories, but the biggest thing we are gaining is knowledge of the Vampire’s history. I am anxious to read the last book in the trilogy, because I want to see what the future holds for these vampire families.

This story continues after the Tenebrae battle with Prophecy in Venice asking Elena for help in finding Valentine.

You have to remember when you read this series that the story’s all about the vampire world. Their society and interactions are the whole story. The humans are completely unware of the demon world and are used in the story only as background and food, making some the the vamp/human interactions very cold and brutal.

I like Mathias and the witch trio. They’re helpful and interesting in their own ways.

But I don’t like Venturi. He’s a jerk and needs to learn to me more responsible, afterall he’s the Tenebrae leader now, not some lovesick teenage boy. The whole situation reminds me of the second Twilight book where Edward is gone and Jacob is taking advantage of the situation

Fave Scenes: 1) Arkalus and Kalinor’s argument in the basement, meeting Hyperion, trip to the museum, Prophecy announcement & ultimatum to her family.

A brilliant second book in the series. The love story between Prophecy and Valentine develops beautifully and they finally get together properly after she rescues him from his captors. However there is no peace for our lovers as the imminent war between vampire families draws closer, and dark evil forces conspire to destroy Prophecy before she can fulfil her destiny. Prophecy has a new admirer in Venturi, a vampire who has sworn to protect her and who falls deeply in love with her. The situation threatens to cause a rift between Prophecy and Valentine, will their love be strong enough to overcome this? They share an incredible bond and need each other if there is any chance of winning this battle. Another amazing read and I purchased the next book Prophecy: Dark Moon Rising straight away because the story is so gripping that I need to know what happens next.

This was a great follow up to "Child of Light", it picks up right where the first leaves off, which I think is great. We don't have to read through several chapters of what we already know to get started again. This book answers a lot of questions and shows Prophecy and Valentine's relationship grow deeper, I don't understand why they don't claim each other though, as they obviously want to and it would further strengthen their bond, but I still have to read the third book of the series so maybe then it will happen? The introduction of Venturi does bring an added twist into the story, and though I don't want to see Prophecy and Valentine split-up it does make things interesting. I still wonder what his true intentions and feeling are, but I guess time will tell.

I could not wait to get straight onto this book, after the way the first book was left! This was again another great read, with yet another cliff-hangar at the end so thank goodness I had already downloaded the next one! I am going to write my overall comments of this series when I finish the last one in the trilogy, as I just want to get on and read it now lol! Except to say, what is going on with Prophecy and Venturi? I think a 'Twilight-esque' love triangle may be forming, and Valentine is not a happy bunnie!

I really enjoyed this second book of the series and F.E.Heaton did not let me down, She Got STEAMY and it fitted so perfectly in with the story.

I am really growing to love Prophecy she has become this kick butt charactor who has grown so much since the first book, Her love for Valentine is beautiful (so jealous lol).

I just hope it all works out how I want it too in the last book otherwise I will be devastated !

There was 1 word that stood out for me about 80% through this book, Awkwardness!! In two minds....1 half likes the strong willed, committed to the cause kick ass persona portrayed by the heroine Prophecy & the other is frustrated with the naive, teenage/ "child" like antics. This is a great adventure story, travelling all throughout Europe. I didn't like this book as much as the first. It seemed a little more slow and a love triangle is forming, which I hate in this book because I LOVE Valentine! I'm really interested to see how the story ends!
