Private Investigator, Mindy Sue Mindy, wasn’t thrilled when she learned her apartment is haunted by marine biologist Dr. Charles F. Chapman. Now, Mindy has to break the news to Charlie that they have inherited a new roommate – an ill-behaved Pomeranian pup named Muffy. Mindy can’t imagine why elderly Gertrude Hazeldorf willed Muffy to her. She had only met Muffy once – when the disreputable pet had escaped the Hazeldorf’s luxurious home and taken possession of the passenger seat of Mindy’s car. Now, Mrs. Hazeldorf has been murdered, and her lawyer, Elmer Richardson, can’t wait to get rid of Muffy. Coincidently, Elmer’s third wife Julia has either run away from home, too, or is dead. Julia’s cousin hires Mindy to prove Elmer killed Julia. It should be easy enough for Charlie to check if Julia has taken up residence at the Guardian Angel Cemetery, right? However, Mindy again finds out nothing is quite as it seems in either the world of crime or the world of the hereafter.
(Some Body is Missing is the second adventure in the Mindy Sue Mindy series. It is a cozy mystery with little violence or gratuitous swearing, and even less sex – much to Mindy’s despair.)
The dog, ghosts and a serial killer make life difficult for our PI
Terrific. Being bequeathed a nasty specimen of a dog after the murder of the previous owner has our PI pulling her hair out. Why? However the more she considers it the more the death looks suspicious. Add in more deaths that have occurred in the past, an attempt on her life and a growing bond between herself and the dog to make a terrific plot. Great characters that you feel are old friends and the wonderful use of ghosts give this book an edge. You will love it.
The two books I've read in this series have some of the best mystery plots I've read in a while. The characters are likeable and even relatable. An author should always make a point to check details in the previous books especially related to the series premise. In the first book her Mom's Mother had the gift but in this book it's the Dad's Mother. There's other details like that that differ from the first to second book. It doesn't change that the book is a great mystery but it does seem careless and personally bothers me.
