Her Empath is book #0.5 in the Zodiac Cyborgs series by Mina Carter. I have had this paperback on my shelf for quite awhile and finally picked it up. I’m so glad I did because it turned out to be a really good little book!
Commander Jacob James “JJ” Meyers is an empath. He has been tasked with accompanying an aging General on her upcoming mission because she is getting too powerful. JJ’s mission is to use his powers and get her under control, to put a leash on her so to speak. It’s the night before the mission when he has a one night stand with the most beautiful, the sexiest woman he’s ever been with. Only to discover the next day that it’s the same woman he has been sent to control.
General Lyssa Ryland started out as a marine and worked her way up through the ranks. Now she commands her own ship. But with all of her years in service, she has gained many powerful allies and her superiors see her as a threat. Now they want to send an empath on her next mission to try to bring her under control. But the night before, she has a wondrous night with a man unlike any night she’s ever experienced. Only to discover the next day that the same man is now her enemy.
This is a quick, sexy, steamy story that I enjoyed so much. These two try to fight whatever it is between them but they can’t. Will they be able to figure out a way to make things work? This comes to a complete HEA. The next book in the series, book one, is called Cyborg’s Price and focuses on a different couple.

A sexy half alien with stunning red hair, and a bossy human empath.

DNF'ed at 19 %. A little warning would have been nice that this is a D/s story, so I could have stayed away. I'm miffed that I spent my hard-earned money for that. The EC serial numbers haven't even been filed off (supposed kick-ass tough bitch turns into toothless kitten for the right magic wang).

Nothing like a short little story to get you going in the afternoon. Ms. Mina really had me going there for a while. Wondering if Lyssa was going to get JJ killed. Definitely recommend this book you'll love it too.

This is a great sci-fi romance about people with neat abilities in a space ship and on a mission on a planet. One of the bad buys is a cyborg.
I really like the heroine. She is partly human, partly a being descended from humans whose DNA modified to have some snakelike qualities that are really cool. He is a general and a fighter. She is older than the hero, but her race lives longer and ages differently.
The hero is really neat, too. He is the empath, a special kind of human that has neat mental abilities. The world of the future is a bit unpleasant though--the powers that be openly us empaths to control people. Empaths are secretive, even the ones using them don't seem to understand them.
The hero is strongly dominant, which fits well with the sexual needs from her heritage. The sexy scenes are pretty hot, and there is more talk about the dominance than descriptions of BDSM type stuff, which is my preference.
The battle they go into together brings them into a situation where they have to open up to each other and trust each other to extreme levels, and it brings them even closer really fast.

A half breed snakelike kickass female with a Hot Empath, how can you go wrong? Lyssa has always been the tough female with all the males under her command and JJ who was supposed to be the one to control her because the Fleet believes that she is out of control but what happens is not exactly what the Fleet expected. Wooo, there are some hot moments here. A good start to the series.

Well, I have to say this book was no where near worth the .99 I paid for it. Basically, here's the book in a nutshell: Hero meets heroine, both are attracted to each other - some steamy sex - they make a half ass excursion that had zero excitement - then it basically just ends as they decide they want to be together???? No real closure at all.
No relationship or character development at all. The plot was pretty boring overall, especially for such a short read. Aside from sex very little of actual relevance even occurred.
This isn't one I recommend and not a series I will continue.

This was the beginning of the series. I actually like how this was written. Ms. Carter never fails to amaze me. The simple way she writes is good and there are times that I would like to read more of the current book. Then, i realize, making it long will ruin the over all effect.
Since this is the start of the series, it was okay. However, I really like how Jj and Lyssa, interacted. There was a certain chemistry and their feeling was like wow!
I enjoyed this and looking forward to reading the next book.

I originally got and read this book through All Romance EBooks but I never reviewed it at the time. This is a short story but packs a wallop. It won't take long to read. Life has a way of interfering so I didn't get to it right away. So I'm going to do so now. This book is just laying the groundwork for Ms. Carter's series "Zodiac Cyborgs" of which it is #.05. It is a reworking of the book originally published by a now defunct publisher. First off I liked that not only was Lyssa a strong in-command woman but she was also an older woman while her counterpart JJ was the younger male character. Both were attracted to the other but JJ was an empath working for The Combined Fleet's Empaths to spy on this hard-nosed, by-the-book General Lyssa Ryland to scope out her dedication and integrity to their cause. Their fortuitous meeting at the ship's bar sets the stage for this story and the series to follow; a very sensuous and intense meeting. We're introduced to an enemy cyborg near the end of this story but nothing is revealed about this human/cyborg. We'll just have to wait for Book #1 Cyborg's Price.

Lyssa is a rogue general of the fleet. She does things her own way and doesn't care what other people think of her. Her commanders want to get her back under their control and assign an empath to her ship to help control her. She is unhappy about the news of the new empath and goes out drinking to release stress. At a space station bar she runs into a gorgeous younger man who isn't intimidated by her. Together they have a passionate night.
JJ really enjoyed his night with Lyssa and wishes that he didn't have orders to leave so he could spend more time with her. Imagine his surprise when he finds out that Lyssa is his new commander. A feisty General who doesn't let anyone get the better of her and the Empath who's never met his match. They were SMOKIN' HOT together. Of course, JJ had to work hard to get past Lyssa's prickly shell. Wait. let me rephrase that. He had to work hard after she knew who he was. Because Lyssa was NOT thrilled to have someone reporting on her and she showed her displeasure by freezing JJ out.
But this empath isn't a quitter and a woman he can't read is worth the effort. So JJ puts himself where he needs to be and does what he needs to do. And Lyssa finds someone worth the effort, too.
While we had minimal cyborgs, I really dug how devoted Lyssa's crew was to her. A good General makes for a great crew. And Lyssa had a great crew.

JJ is an empath and his starting a new assignment. Of course he wasn't expecting to find out that the woman he spent the best night of his life with, would be his new boss and assignment. He wants her no matter what and will do anything to have her.
Lyssa is General of a fleet and his well liked and respected by her Crew, oh as is a snake shifter. AWESOME !!! She spends a great night with a guy and doesn't think she will see him again. Oh dear he only the Empath she doesn't want on her shit. She tries to resist him but he shows her how much they can have.
I enjoyed the chemistry between these two and the little insecurities you don't expect, oh and let's not forget about the hot sex scenes. Holy hell are they hot!!!!

Lyssa Ryland is half human half alien and behaves just like her red hair - tough and impossible to control. JJ is an empath and has been send to control her via any means. He expects an old battle-ax and instead finds the hot woman he had a one night stand with the night before. On a mission, can they escape the homicidal cyborg and can they sort out their feelings for each other.
There was plenty of action both in and out of the bedroom in this charming story of lust and potentially love set in space. The characters were well described and the thoughts and feelings were easy to understand.

I am never disappointed by this author's books. She always manages to develop characters that really hook me into the stories. In this case, we have two determined individuals that have different perspectives on what needs to be done at first. He has been asked to keep her under control but learns that is not happening. I really loved how they interacted. There is so much heat. I would love to see more stories with these characters.

I like the supernatural twist of the Empath plus the flavor of cyborgs and other races. I would like to meet an Empath like JJ!

I read this book voluntarily as a advanced readers copy. Mina carter sure knows how to write a story that will keep you captivated from start to finish. I enjoyed the plot and how the characters relate to each other. I cannot wait until the rest of the series comes out so I may find out what happens next.

This was a delicious story. Lyssa is a force to be reckoned with. And she's not about to get burned again by anyone. JJ has a fast and hot introduction to Lyssa. It does take him a while to really understand her. In the end they move as well oiled cyborg in both battle and the bedroom. The ending of the story is just the beginning for the next Cyborg stories.

Finally finds someone he can't read and he is in heaven. She hide her scales because it scares humans till him.He suppose to seduce her to keep her in check but he find he likes her way she is. Great book. One series to read one I was recommended and will read the rest.

Fast Read!
Loved this story full of adventure. Hot and sweet, I love how JJ pursued Lyssa and there is no sidetracking him. Lyssa is my favorite female chart at the moment for how she handle her self being a commander of her ship and a woman at the same time.
