The Matchmaker

Rate this book

USA Today Bestselling author, Pamela DuMond, pitched the real-life ERIN BROCKOVICH story to ‘Hollywood’, where it became the hit movie.

Now she brings you the steamy, standalone, Rom-Com THE MATCHMAKER: A Playing Dirty Novel.

Aiden Black thought he’d left his past behind when he abandoned the priesthood. He channeled his desire to help others by creating WGA -- Chicago’s premiere matchmaking agency. Aiden’s the expert at finding true love for his clients but he’s put his own needs on hold for a Very. Long. Time.

Violet Accardi doesn’t want to settle down and be a Mafia princess – she’s busy building her own sportswear company. Problem is her family’s a bit controlling: Mom wants grand babies. Uncle Vincent promised Violet’s hand in marriage to the son of a rival family and attempts to kidnap her at the WGA Christmas party.

Aiden shuts down the first kidnapping attempt by pretending to be Violet’s fiancé. He’s smoking hot, such a gentleman, and their chemistry is through the roof. Violet wonders what could it hurt to pretend to be in love with a gorgeous, classy, romantic guy -- for just one night?

But Uncle Vincent calls their bluff, popping them both on a private jet headed to the Accardi home in Sicily for the holidays.

Life for Violet and Aiden is about to become more complicated...

I was in the mood for a book that’s funny, sexy and a little emotional; and The Matchmaker by Pamela DuMond was exactly that. I enjoyed this book very much! I devoured it in a few hours. I enjoyed this book more than the first book in this Playing Dirty series.

Aiden is the co-owner of a matchmaker’s agency and that agency is very successful. At a party he’s organizing to hopefully match some clients, he saves a woman. That woman’s name is Violet. Violet’s uncle is part of a mob and he knows a man Violet should marry, but Violet doesn’t want anything to do with the mob. Violet needs to go on vacation with her family and Aiden finds himself part of that vacation without wanting it. Aiden and Violet get to know each other during the trip and they like what they learn.

I really liked Aiden and Violet. Aiden is rich, strong, smart and closed off. He is close to his sister and he owns a lot to her. Aiden works hard and his agency means a lot to him. He has rules and he doesn’t do commitment, until Violet makes him forget all that.

Violet is feisty, independent, kind and passionate. She wants her own life, one that has nothing to do with her uncle. She works very hard to start her own company and make it successful. Violet wants to have and find love, and not marry someone her uncle has found for her. She immediately connects with Aiden and he’s perfect for her. I really liked Aiden and Violet together.

I haven't read any NA written by Pamela DuMond (I am a big fan of her Mortal Beloved series) and this book was quite a surprise! Aiden has a matchmaking service and Violet wants to make her own company and not become a mafia princess, neither just make grandbabies for her mom. When Aiden helps Violet, sparks fly with an epic sequence of romance, humor and lots of banter.

Light-hearted, fun and emotional this book is for those who want something fun yet very romantic!

Violet and Aiden sure have some interesting conversations:
“Good. Did I tell you I love effing you?”
He smiled. “You did. Did I tell you that you’re the smartest girl I’ve ever crushed on?”
I liked this book, it was a light-hearted fun read.

Matchmaker Pamela DuMond is book Two in the "Playing Dirty" series. This is the story of Aiden Black and Violet Accardi. I have read the previous book but think this can easily be a standalone book.
Aiden runs a match making business so that he can help others find their happiness,
Violet is just wanting to run her own business and not get further in to the Mafia life style...but tell tat to the Uncle that is trying to make her marry someone he has promised her too. Her Mother just wants to start holding her grand babies so she getting pressure from home to marry. Aiden steps in to be her pretend fiancé but can it be long before fake becomes real?
Really enjoyed this funny, hot and hard to put down book!

What a lighthearted, sexy and emotional romance read!! I found myself hooked as the romance between Aiden and Violet lights up my kindle. Aiden has a matchmaking service and Violet wants to make her own company and not become a mafia princess. She just wants to run her life without her parents running hers for her …and as for Aiden; he needed to break free from his past. Aiden offers to help Violet but these two have such strong chemistry, who is really helping who here? Intense chemistry is abound with tons of sparks which makes for a sexy, funny, emotional, heartwarming romance which is phenomenal. Aiden and Violet definitely are one hot couple to watch as their path to romance is told from start to finish. I loved it and cant wait to read what else Ms. DuMond has written for I know when I read her, its going to be a smashing good read.

The Matchmaker was the second book in the Playing Dirty series by Pamela DuMond.

I’ve taken a break from formal reviews for a while, but a couple quick thoughts: Aiden and Violet were both fun and likable characters. Violet was part of an Italian mob family so the humorous threat of mob antics was always underlying. All in all, it was a quick, fun and light hearted read.

This was surely fun read. Funny, Romance, Family Drama .... Many beautiful aspects!

I loved Violet's charter the most. She is bold and beautiful. I loved her upfront approach and quiet direct. If she feels something she likes to be expressive about the same and so she did when it came to Aiden. Aiden is a lovely handsome, has got everything required for a beautiful life but still keeps to himself when it comes to approaching a woman. Commo Aiden - U can't waste such amazing Hotness just like that ;P

Story reveals around push and pull between "The closed off Aiden" and "The Upfront Violet". What a slow burn - it was fantastic. And as they are forced into a situation to be around, they had to get close. Aides had to do certain thing which I wanted him to do for so long XD. Lovely is the word!

And not to forget the family Drama, Uncle Vincent, Florentine with Alivse, Papa and flirting n teasing, Crapy family traditions to be followed and broken. But in the end family was wonderfully together and there was a beautiful HEA.

Simply Loved it!!!

First of all I loved that this book started right where Violet ended in The Client. Though this book could pass as a standalone I do highly suggest reading The Client first. I felt like I already had a sense of who Violet and Aiden were just from meeting them in the first book.

This book starts out at a holiday party which Aiden hosted for his matchmaking agency. Violet is under contract with the agency who is supposed to help her find the perfect husband. When Aiden sees that she is in trouble at the party he steps in and proclaims to be her fiance. Later on his proclamation sends him and her into quite the adventure when her very overbearing family steps in and kidnaps the two for a very special holiday getaway.

Violet's family was quite the riot! They were big and boisterous, constantly bickering. I found it to be a little much at times but was still funny to read. I do however feel like this book was very rushed. Some things just did not fit for me and at times I was lost because it almost seemed like there were holes in the story line. Overall though I loved the characters and it was a fun, short read.

Marie's Tempting Reads ARC Review:

A ULTRA funny, swoony, something-special romcom from Pamela DuMond! The Matchmaker is another all consuming read. The characters are irresistible, the plot and storyline seemed to have snatched me in right from the start. I got plenty of laughs with the all encompassing heat and the banter was witty, charming, sexy and fun with the perfect sprinkling of heart to have the heart clenching!

There is something so...wonderful about the way Pamela DuMond writes her Romantic Comedies. She has characters that are fascinating and interesting and full of spirit. But in the Matchmaker they seem to be even MORE amazing! The story is sharp and sweet and beautifully attractive. I enjoyed it IMMENSELY!

This book gets a MUST STOP WHAT YOUR DOING AND READ THIS NOW FIVE SHOOTING STARS!

Oh, I love Violet's family.
What a rowdy bunch!

"The Client" was one of the books in my Top 5 reads of 2017, so obviously I just had to come back for more of Pamela Dumond and the awesome people of WGA. Employees and clients.

There's so much about Aiden that I loved, I don't even know where to begin.
He was such a surprise: don't get to know much about him from book 1.

Aiden and Violet story had everything: witty banter, laugh.out.loud moments, heart-melting sweetness and all the hot, hot bits.

I gave this book 4 stars. It was a really fun book to read. It was full of sexy moments and I couldn’t seem to put it down once I got started. It thankfully also had an exciting plot to go along with the sexy scenes. If you’re looking for a light steamy read, this one is for you.

When I first started reading this book, I found it to be really interesting because it began with a man at his party coming to rescue of a woman who was about to be kidnapped by another man, however this story made a shift that I didn't even expect which to most people would find this story interesting, but for me, I found it to be very confusing at times.

*Spoilers*
Violet Accardi signed up as a client at White Glove Matchmaking Agency; however at their party, she was kidnapped and was escorted from the party by one of her Uncle's guard in regard to her marriage with one of her grandpa's chosen man so that they can handle the bloodpact and come to a compromise. Okay, as for this part of the story, it was the one thing that drew me in from the beginning however as the stories progressed, I felt like we got to learn more about Violet's family rather than her relationship with Aiden. When I read the part about Violet's family, I found that I had lost interest and could not really focus on the story and plus everything that happened in Violet's family look almost like 3/4 of the book; however, my perspective begin to change when the story shifted back to Violet and Aiden's relationship because I was more invested in the story and found that everything they were together, it was just perfection.

Aiden Black was a co-owner of the White Glove Matchmaking Agency and he started this company as a way to give back or to provide life service by helping others and I really love that aspect; however, when he would forced by Uncle Vincent, Violet's uncle, to travel with them or he would do something to his sister and her wife, he would then embark on a journey with Violet to meet her family. But on the plane ride there and at their vacation house, it's mostly him having or listening to the conversations of the Accardi family instead of proposing to have a chat with Violet. I also felt the Aiden's reason to start doing life service was really stupid and how it had a major impact on why he chose his career to help people with matchmaking. I mean I was really interested in finding out his reason for wanting to help people find their love, but like I didn't really see it and I mean he made it seem like he was really sad and all but I didn't have the same mutual feelings as he did. Also I think the ending was kind of rush like how Violet and Aiden's relationship began to progress and how he decided to jump through her window so that he could sleep with her. I don't know about y'all but that would be really creepy.

Oh well, now that I've read this book, I am kind of put into a book slump and I can't really pick up a book and would find it as interesting to read. I feel like every time I pick up a book now, I am just scanning through the pages to find the most interesting part but I hope that after reading another book it will help me with reading more romance.

—I was provided with an ARC of this book without any obligation to post a review —

I had read the book one in the “Playing Dirty Series”, so it was imperative that I read the second one, cuz I loved the first one. Pamela has this rare quality of keeping things short, witty and captivating at the same time.
We have this feisty mafia princess who is promised to marry a man cuz of a tradition, and then we have an ex-priest who has sworn of woman cuz “ain’t nobody got time for that” with his business and some misplaced guilt! But once the two meet, and get in to a fake-ish relationship, things take a turn (along with the plane - read the book and you will know) for the better (eventually).
The side characters are charming, Florentine is my new heroine, so what that she’s a bit old, she has the spunk that no other heroine has. Pamela, you gotta write one for her, go back in time but I need Florentine in my life.

All in all, a good, concise read with loads of laughs and loads of love.

My only two issues were a very, very few typos here and there and sometimes the “jump” between scenes or even in a conversation between two characters was so abrupt that I had to go back to make the flow of the story smooth! Having said that, it was in only two or three places in the entire book that I got this feelings, so overall the book flows well.

I give it a 4 stars, I’ll keep one for myself 😜.

Violet is looking for a husband in order to finally escape the family business. Aidan owns the matchmaking agency that Violet's mom hired to find her a husband. What could go wrong ?

It's been a while since I read The Client, book 1 in the Playing Dirty series but I still remember being really intrigued by Violet's list of what she wanted in her future husband and wondering who could possibly measure up...

Well Aidan surely didn't disappoint. From his meeting with Violet to the end of the book he was sweet and funny. And Violet gave it back to him. I definitely enjoyed this story and its outcome.

Where I feel a bit let down is with the length of the book. It felt more like a novella to me than a complete book. Even with knowing the number of pages, in the end, quite a few of them were about the others works of the authors or were extracts. Because of that the story felt a bit rushed to me. I would've wanted more.

Nonetheless I recommend this book. I had a great time reading it.

I discovered Pamela DuMond's work not long ago and let me tell you, this author knows how to tell a story. Everyone needs to discover Aiden Black and his matchmaking service called the White Glove Agency. Aiden is almost too good but you can't help but love him, stepping in to help when the need arises. Violet was also a delight, dealing with an overprotective family that doesn't want her making her own choices in life. This family was over the top and I couldn't help but laugh at some of their craziness.

I love DuMond's writing style and the banter she uses. The Matchmaker was a fun, lighthearted read that kept me flipping pages, anticipating what was going to happen next with Aiden and Violet. I swear, these two were perfect, totally meant for each other, fake engagement and all. This story was everything you're looking for in a romantic comedy, with a little hotness on the side. I'd love to read about these two again!

Violet Accardi & Aiden Black concoct a fake engagement to buy time from Violet's family, but they themselves get caught up. In-between the Accardi family drama, we get glimpses of the life Aiden had five years ago, giving us the reasons behind his quiet, reserved behaviour. Disillusioned by life, he's doing penance by avoiding happiness. Violet and her crazy family seem to be the slice of happiness he's been missing. He needs courage to allow himself to take it.

This is a funny story! Sweet, too, but very funny! My only issue was that I wished we had a little more of Violet's background to go on.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

When a books open to a Christmas party and an attempted kidnapping that ends with the kidnapper rolling on the floor, clutching his family jewels, you know it’s going to be a fun read. Apparently Violet Accardi doesn’t need a knight in shining armor to rescue her. But what she does need is a “fiancé”. Enter Aiden Black.

The Matchmaker is a follow-up to The Client but can be read as a standalone (if you really wanted to for some reason). Ms DuMond has managed to combine a sweet romance, a comedy, and some fiery fun in one book!

I’m looking forward to the next book in the “Playing Dirty” rom-com series!

The Matchmaker is a book about an accidental love between a mafia princess and an ex priest. The book was a quick and funny read with some great characters! Though the story was captivating, there were a lot of incomplete scenes and major jumps in scenes and conversations between characters! This and quite a few typos for such a short book made it a bumpy read! But I did love the writing! All in all it was a fun book and great if you want a super quick read and don't mind some typos!

I loved Aiden and Violet! He runs the matchmaking agency and she is a mafia princess who is tired of being told what to do. So she sets out to find her mate herself, not the one she has been promised to since birth. Can Violet win Aiden's heart? He steps in to help her at a party and let the games begin! Great read by Pamela DuMond! 5 stars

The book is a pretty funny and easy read. But I do miss some "debt" in the story, I feel it could have used more interaction between Violet and Aiden, because I wasn't really feeling that through the roof chemistry they were supposed to have.
However, if you like the insta-love kind of reads or you want something light, this one is a fine choice.

**I received a review copy of this book in exchange for an honest voluntary review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

When I learned Violet (who was one of my favourite characters in The Client) was getting her own book, I was ecstatic! I loved her attitude and knowing how crazy her family was, I couldn't wait for the hi-jinks to ensue when she met her match in Aiden.

But this novel just felt far too rushed--and often forced--to be completely enjoyable. I can forgive the craziness of the "whisked on a private jet out of the country" premise and I'll admit I was on board with it until it was actually executed.

Lustful glances and inner monologues about having sex with the other lead does not a romance novel make. Sure, I got the fact that these two were insanely attracted to the other but there was very little interaction between them outside of those fantasies.

And that's a shame because these two have incredible backstories. We get a lot of Aiden's and it is fascinating but Violet never learns about it. And Violet's need to assert her independence in her family gets cast aside before it can even be built up.

I think the worst part of this story is that just when it looked like some good progress (in terms of development in all fronts) is about to happen, the book wraps up quickly and neatly and in a way that left me completely unsatisfied. Overall, I was very disappointed in this sequel.

While this book can be read as a standalone if you have read The Client then you are already familiar with Violet Accardi as a client at White Glove Agency and Aiden Black as the creator. Violet is trying to build up her sportswear company while keeping her Mafia interfering family at bay. As creator of WGA, Aiden is a bit of a workaholic who finds purpose in helping others after abandoning the priesthood and some soul searching.

There is a lot to love about this book. In typical DuMond style, the beginning grabs you then an adorable meet cute ensues. Violet and Aiden meet when he steps in as her fiancé when one of her uncle’s goons tries to kidnap her and from there comes quite a bit of family drama, an Italian holiday and a bit of self-reflection.

Three stars because I enjoyed this book but didn’t quite love it. The end was a bit abrupt for me and generally I am not a huge fan of the flashback threaded throughout the story to reveal a major plot point.
