Did you know that Mary Washington convinced her son, George Washington, not to join the British Navy? Without Mary, our precious U.S. may not exist, at least not in the way our founding fathers created it. Using a variety of first and secondary sources, Ms. Michelle L. Hamilton writes an accurate account of the mother of the Father of our Nation. Left as a 35 year old widow of five children under the age of 12, George once wrote [para.], 'Having been deprived of a father at such a young age...she led me to manhood.' Ms. Halmilton has extensively researched first hand letters and accounts to paint a true picture of whom I would call The Mother of Our Nation. This book is not one to be missed for any historian or student studying the Washington family.
